Perhaps in a future version you can update the flashlights your companions use? Here's Sarah's flashlight next to my L2D (Dim), you see hers is the original light
edit: my flashlight is on the right, Sarah's is on the left
Thanks for bringing this up! After a quick dig and test, found the solution for this. There's two identical files in different gobos folders! PLAYER FLASHLIGHT LOCATION (MOD INSTALLATION PROVIDED) ...Documents\My Games\Starfield\Data\Textures\effects\gobos
Download the flashlight you want to give your companion and (maybe other NPC's, haven't tested) and install it to ...Documents\My Games\Starfield\Data\Textures\gobo
I've updated the instruction for companion installation, as well as added NPC version of each light in Misc. files.
By far the best flashlight mod. Well done. I love they beam they chose and the ranbowing on the edges. It was just too dark and narrow. Thanks for all of the options too. It would be cool if you could toggle in game a bright and dim mode plus the infrared like a real headlamp.
Thanks for the feedback! I think a way to switch through the modes would be a brilliant addition. I'm not sure I'm able to do that, maybe someone better at all of this could conceive of it.
Seconding this. Had this same idea while looking at the screenshots, it would be great if there was a way to toggle the brightness (up and down) and also an infrared mode on the fly. That would make the game feel great.
Although I placed the texture where supposed to be (and checked if I have the lines in the .ini file), I don't see any difference ingame. Is it probably because I have replaced the LOTs with much darker ones?
No matter what I tried, there is no why to see different texture for the flashlight. I added the lines in the .ini file, placed (loose) the texture to the correct path, nothing.
If you would like to 'test' then use the Infrared version in 'Miscellaneous files' section, or any other mod that drastically changes the light's appearance. That way once you get the right arrangement of files and ini, you'll know for sure.
I'm not really sure how to help you in terms of installation instruction though. Maybe try other mod instructions and revisit these if/when you get those working.
There have been mods that also render the My Documents/... directory useless. Make sure if you're using THAT mod, then you install them to the Starfield/... install directory (if steam.)
This is only a retexturing of the existing mask/gobo (or 'cookie' in unity), that gives the casted light on surfaces a texture. By increasing the amount of luminosity by increasing the white values we're making it brighter effectively. This mod does not make any further changes to the light and it's properties.
Here's a comparison SBS of Unmodded vs L3
You can see as I walk through the doorway NEITHER light is reaching the back of the next room, but once the light reaches the surface the mod makes it brighter. There could be a per-room light optimization limiting range. Maybe flashlight won't cross room boundaries or something. But regardless, I don't think this mod will drastically increase RANGE of light, but only the brightness of currently casted light.
