My quest arrow color reverts to original as I play. It starts as colored (I’ve used red and green) then reverts after a few location changes or save reloads. I understand modding Starfield is new. This texture replacement does work. It may be a game engine issue. I’m mentioning it incase someone has had and resolved this issue.
To cover things other texture replacements work (in game posters for example).
I have the GamePass version so can not use SFSE. I do not use a modding tool like Vortex. I manually copy files. I copy to both DATA file locations (below).
I also added\changed those lines under the [Archive] in C:\XboxGames\Starfield\Content\Starfield.ini to be thorough.
Copied files to both texture locations (again to be thorough with the GamePass version difference): handscannerarrow_emissive.dds handscannerarrowborder_emissive.dds handscannerarrowborder_opacity.dds
Not a fix: It seems (but I have not extensively tested, just rather play) accessing the galaxy map reverts the quest arrow color/texture. The following had it working longer (I used the pink color during this). This is a game engine issue, not an issue with the MOD.

I'm linking to that other MOD to give credit and incase the information changes. 1a. Alternate Method to Force \data\ Folder (Advanced Users - Please do not do this if you are new to modding) There is a way to force the game to load textures from the data folder to make it work with Vortex, etc. but be careful as you can easily delete your Photo Mode photos! This requires moving the folder from My Documents to the game data folder, and changing where Photo Mode images are stored, as that will re-create the structure and start loading textures from the old folder again if it isn't re-assigned. Steps: Add the following line to StarfieldCustom.ini under [General] [General] bEnableMessageOfTheDay=0 [Display] sPhotoModeFolder=Photos Move the contents of your "My Games\Starfield\Data" folder to the game's Data folder (i.e. \SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Starfield\) Delete the Data folder in \My Games\Starfield\
Fixed! I do not understand why this work as it does. I don’t know if this is due to playing via Gamepass, but probably.
Seems the game engine has a way to know if a texture file has changed. If it hasn’t recently changed then it defaults to the original in the .BSA archive. Adding/updating a texture mod works. Then paly for a day or two and it stops using the replaced texture file. Copy the exact same file into the exact same folder again and it works for a day or two then stops.
I have modded ‘poster’ images and magazine covers that always works. The quest arrow replacement and fog remover texture replacements revert after a day or two. Very weird and strange. I don’t know exactly why/how. I am describing what happens and how I resolved it. It isn’t the file’s date. It isn’t the file’s archive bit. Both Starfield.ini and StarfieldCustom.ini have: [Archive] bInvalidateOlderFiles=1 sResourceDataDirsFinal=
I use a powershell script I run before playing each day that copies all the modded texture files over again. I change the pause screen form a list and use powershell to generate a random number. You can use a BAT file instead. This is the command line: xcopy "C:\Users\Sean\Desktop\textures" "C:\Users\Sean\Documents\MyGames\Starfield\Data\textures" /e /i /f /v /y Your file paths will be different. I have a texture folder on my desktop I add/update. It is copied to the game folder before playing.
I'm hoping for a light purple or bright pink, personally. Colors in those ranges seem to be the easiest to see. (A lot of people use shades of those colors in MMOs to better see where the enemy is casting their next attack, or if there's something bad you're not supposed to stand in, etc, because they pop out more than the usual default of red.)
Because it depends on how you have your game modded to start with. Either can by used successfully. I'm on steam with vortex and I use the the I've on the game data directory. So your post is also wrong

For this mod I can confirm it is the `documents/my games` directory for Starfield and NOT the game dir.
