WARNING: Please use with caution, these bat files make the game overwrite its StarfieldCustom.ini file!!
The bat/txt script files use the 'SaveIniFiles' command which can have undesired effects, letting the game rewrite this ini file should theoretically not break anything, because it keeps all your custom settings that you've defined in this file before, but it also copies over custom values defined in other files & mods, whatever you have been messing around with in console before running the bat/txt script, some of the game menu settings & more, so this all means that you greatly increase the chance of breaking something without understanding why/how because of a setting/script/file/mod conflict that you create by using this command.
--------------------------------------
Considering the possible danger of having the game overwrite the StarfieldCustom.ini file, i would strongly suggest to anyone that after you've download this mod you (like and endorse it, then) decide between one of these two 'remixes' of the mod:
You can edit the bat/txt files that you find in this download, from both of them remove the entire line that reads SaveIniFiles Save the files and use them like you use any other bat/txt file 👍
-Or- alternatively you could just throw away the bat/txt files and instead just add the below to your StarfieldCustom.ini manually: [Workshop] fClosestPointToleranceLargeItems=-100.0000 This does the same thing as the bat/txt file but its 'always on' & 'cleaner' (as in: it doesn't let the game mess with your ini file)
--------------------------------------
In regards to the discussion going on saying that its not working
It actually IS working, but you need to be aware that this only affects "Large Items" (for example allowing a hab-airlock-platform to intersect with a big landing pad instead of not being allowed anywhere near it) but this mod/setting does nothing for smaller objects!!! if you want smaller objects to be able to overlap you need to change a different variable: 'fClosestPointTolerance' (default: -0.04)
The downloadable bat/txt files only changes the 'fClosestPointToleranceLargeItems' (default: -0.1) variable which as the name implies only handles "Large Items", so what you really want is to change both:
[Workshop] fClosestPointTolerance=-100.0000 fClosestPointToleranceLargeItems=-100.0000 (idk if that -100 is actually a good value for it, i just checked if it allowed overlap and it did, but maybe too much, so play with this value a bit if needed, negative is overlap & positive is forcing a gap)
Shout-out to a post with all ini settings by 'DoubleYou' on 'Step Modifications' forum for helping me find the small item setting 👍

@3stann:
Thanks for a useful mod that did exactly what i needed for my outpost!! but please consider:
Removing the 'SaveIniFiles' step because yikes my ini file got so f-ed i just wrote a wall-o-text to hopefully spare others that pain lmao
Maybe include the smaller object overlap variable too, with some value that makes sense (like mentioned i just made sure it worked, didn't look for a 'good setting')
Just FYI setting fClosestPointTolerance to -100 causes problems, after placing a few small items the workshop mode will tell you that placing something basically anywhere is overlapping, even out on the ground in the middle of nowhere. Removing this line fixed it, so it's definitely the problem.
Hi, i put the ini lines as instructed in the comments in the custom ini file, but they don't seem to work since the annoying "cannot place item: intersects with an existing object" keeps appearing
yeah I have the same thing. Ran the command it says it ran successfully, but everything I try to build on my ship or outpost are still having intersex with each other. All damn day. Can't build a damn thing. It looks like this is the only mod trying to address it, but since installing, its made little to no impact.
Can sum1 tell me if this mod will help me do this. Watch the video from pt 0.51 to 1.12 And tell me how da heck he did that!!??? This damn outpost editor makes me want to just screammmmm!! in fact I do I just don't do it load as I live in an apartment lol.
I've watched the part where he places the airlock seamlessly & he goes from move to raise to move without turning the airlock yellow (to show it's highlighted) When I'm in the base builder I gotta move it & confirm THEN re-select the airlock & it turns YELLOW but it ghost out if I wanna say that & the builder drops it in another position. The airlock I wanna move is YELLOW but I can't do anything with it as it is static. Now I'm moving around a different rendition of the airlock I don't want to move. I swear I've watched that 1 prt over & over for an hr & I can't get the results he magically got in less than 5secs. I'm using an Xbox controller on PC.
