Hello everyone -- Thanks for the support on my very first mod! The kind words, feedback, endorsements -- even a spot in a 'Top 10 Starfield Mods of the Week' video -- they mean a lot. When I first started this, I didn't know anything about modding. I had no idea what a .dds file was and I spent a lot of time figuring out how the lighting in this game interacts with colors. Half the reason the pink variants exist is because I was trying to make a deep red!
I'm working on a few more color variants but I'm starting to slow down on implementing more -- at least for a time. I enjoy learning new things, even if only to appreciate the level of talent that goes into a craft like game development or modding. Creating mods is definitely something I want to keep coming back to, especially to try my hand at creating mods for some of my favorite games like Halo and Cyberpunk 2077. For now, though, I need to actually get around to playing the game for more than a few minutes.
I'll be limiting my updates to break/fix after 9/24..
.. or until I have the time to experience many of the great games that have come out this year that I've fallen behind on.
I expect many of these will need to be revisited as official mod tools become available, so I'm keeping the source files around for when that happens. Who knows, I might even be able to bring them to console enjoyers.
Unless there is a massive update that fundamentally changes the way mods are deployed, troubleshooting will not be provided. This is a very simple mod and the instructions are incredibly detailed. If it's not working, you:
- Didn't read the instructions and just assumed you could figure it out by yourself. - Have a conflicting mod. - Are missing the .ini file, or the file's format is unreadable. Remove everything but the required lines and try again. - Installed it into the Starfield install directory instead of your Documents folder. - You dropped the data folder INTO an existing data folder. - Forgot to install it. - Deleted it. - Were dropped on your head as a baby and everyone's been lying to you about it.
It was my intention to implement a few fixes and add new variants requested in the comments a few weeks ago. However, my time has been incredibly limited recently.
Between end-of-year projects, a beloved pet coming down with some health issues, and a rather painful torn ligament obtained at the gym, I've been feeling incredibly burnt out. It's still my intention to get to the requests in the near future but I think I need a few more weeks to get in a headspace to do so. Thanks for your understanding and continued support on this mod. It means a lot.
Had a question though. I've been using this mod for a while now, specifically the Full Black suit and I've noticed a couple things.
In well lit areas it looks just fine. In darker areas, the blackshading can seem to be too black. Add to this, the metallic 'bridge' between the backplate and the jetpack is grey and seems to be completely unshaded. Is there any way we could please get a version that's dark but a little bit lighter than full black and have that bridge shaded black as well?
You do have other textures similar to what I'm looking for however the chest plate on some of these is grey and I know with other mods they have black with shoulders and that plug on the front of the chest a different color. Just looking for something that's really dark without being either washed out or maybe too black but is completely black. Again, I've been using this mod since the start of the game and you just notice things after awhile. :)
Also, I like the visor look, yours seems to have this yellow glow to it which is nice. Other mods I've seen don't have this which is noticeable, especially after using this mod.
I know you're not focusing on modding that much - and that's perfectly okay, all the power to you for taking care of yourself, but I was wondering if it'd be possible to create a retexture with a white and pink colour scheme. I'm fine with the grey and pink one, I just prefer a brighter spacesuit.
Just saw this — it’s been a bit since I’ve had the chance to do anything mod related (or gaming related for that matter). I’ll try to get some time this weekend.. No promises. But I will do it at some point for sure.
Could you make a version that literally just takes the vanilla Mark I space suit and changes the shoulders to blue? Or if you could explain how I could do it I'd be very appreciative.
P.S. - I'm familiar with recoloring textures, I'm just not too sure how to access the vanilla textures to be able to recolor and make my own version.
Best I can tell you to do is to uninstall and reinstall.. But this time, follow the instructions very, very carefully. My instructions are probably the most detailed ones out there for a mod of this type.
Hint - your path should look like this, so make sure you didn't put the data folder into the other data folder:
I tried to do it by adjusting the visor opacity layer and even adjusting the color. I did get it to change colors (there’s a blue visor on the blue variants) but none of the things I did worked to make it more opaque. I had the same thought as you.. wanted to significantly adjust the opacity and black it out, but looks like we have to wait until official mod tools. At least that’s what others have said.
I’ll keep tinkering, though. I’ve only been doing this modding thing for like.. 4 hours. Totally possible I’m missing something.
You're in luck guys. I was checking the mods that were published recently, and someone figured out how to make all visors black and opaque. I confirmed this is compatible with my recolors. You can just install his over the top of mine.
Great work! This definitely seems like the best Mark I recolor pack on the site. Any chance you could make a version that is mostly black, but increases the vibrance of the default red shoulders, and makes the metal accents on the chest rig and pack the anodized red color? Also hoping to use the blue tinted light in the helmet. I tried the Black Default one, but the shoulders were super dark.
Uploaded a test version for you to trial out under 'Miscellaneous File.' I copied the same color that was on the existing anodized red as close as possible. If the shoulders need to be a different color, could you provide the Hex color you're looking for? Here's what I used (which is pretty much the default): 632b26
Just gotta keep in mind that lighting in this game is weird and tends to make everything look really dark lol
first i want to say i love the recolors they are amazing! i just had to ask about the gloves, they seem lighter than the suits and it really stands out to me, is there a matching gloves file I'm missing or are they supposed to be lighter? for reference I'm using the black and red one you just made, thank you in advance!
I did make the gloves on the lighter side to match the boots. It's possible I mixed them up with a lighter variant. I'll take a look this evening after work.
In the meantime, it's possible to mix certain aspects of the armors. For example, you can download the 'Full Black' variant, copy the following, and paste them into the corresponding directory of the color variant you've chosen:
i did the copy from the other file like you suggested, now they seem darker than the rest of the suit by comparison lolol but a little darker is far less of a problem than very noticeably lighter, thank you for this advice, cant wait for more of your amazing work!

See you out there in the starfield!

Thanks again for the mod, good stuff.

Kind of wish there was a tactical pistol and holster on the right thigh :D

Added a regular version and a version with blue visor.

data\textures\clothes\basegloves\glove_mat_color.dds
data\textures\clothes\basegloves2\basegloves2_color.dds
data\textures\clothes\suitzero\Suitv3\gloves_color.dds
Those three files control some aspects of the glove components, but I forget which off the top of my head.
Pro-tip: It's also possible to swap visor colors using the below file.
data\textures\clothes\suitzero\Suitv3\visor_color.dds
