Under the hood, this mod does not utilize the gameplay options menu for its configuration. This makes it much more lightweight, without the need for a scripted quest, as well as allowing for more fine-tuned control of each option, instead of using preset increments. It can be configured using Real Time Form Patcher, or a plugin patch, or a simple edit in xEdit.
The main gameplay differences are twofold:
1) In regards to Andreja's companion quest, this mod allows Shattered Space to begin either before you've met Andreja, or after you've completed her quest (as long as the other conditions are met). This means that if you opt not to pursue the main Constellation questline - and you never gain Andreja as a companion - you can still play Shattered Space. Essentially, Shattered Space is put on pause for as long as Andreja is a known follower, while her arc is not yet completed.
2) The second major difference is that this mod relies on random chance to determine when Shattered Space will begin. Instead of immediately triggering on the next far travel to orbit after the player reaches a certain level, etc., this mod (by default) gives Shattered Space a 1 in 4 chance of starting (on the next far travel to orbit). This makes the beginning of Shattered Space less predictable, and hopefully somewhat more engaging. In my own playthrough, it kinda bugged me that in the back of my head I knew that as soon as I reached level 35, Shattered Space would begin the next time I traveled in space. So this just makes it more of a surprise.
