I would love if this allowed you the option to survive and be teleported somewhere nearby or put into a bleed out state-- I've been craving a death alternative like Stay in the Fight from Skyrim.
Always makes it more fun for me to play super high difficulty when I can reduce the death penalty to no more reload. :)
Interesting. Maybe the player could be put into a downed but not out state, similar to the followers. There could be some crawling movement allowed similar to the human enemies that are wounded. The player could crawl to cover and maybe apply a med-pack or something within a time limit to restore full function. Tricky for deaths in the Rev 8 though, and when the player has been rag-dolled into orbit.
Yes, it's a simple but immersive popup that appears after death, offering a brief reflective moment before you respawn from the built in last save auto reload. It reinforces the consequences of failure while maintaining immersion in the game world. I'm also considering a full new game start that retains your level, skills, and gear, but for now, this is just a small touch of immersive polish.
But do you think death can eventually trigger a new game plus in the same spirit ? Like you are dead but in fact, you will start over in a new universe ?
That's an interesting idea. I kept this version intentionally simple because I've been dying a lot, and constant save reloads started feeling like cheating. I wanted something that leaned more into that Planescape: Torment-like philosophy—where each death isn’t a failure but just another thread in the multiverse. Integrating this into a full reset—a true new beginning—is intriguing, though. It would reinforce the idea that every death is just another step forward. Definitely something to think about, though it’d be far more complex 😉.
