Grandma got run over by an asteroid. OTOH I died in the vanguard simulator when I turned into an asteroid I had not seen. Not your fault the AI is dumb as a rock. Nor that I wasn't paying attention. Good solid mod.
I have to say that this mod was a sleeper for me, but it continues to shine when I least expect it. From being outnumbered four to one in an asteroid field, then having them follow me into it and get wrecked. To "Hi I'm Dr. Sohla Banglawala and...AGHH...*static*. This really elevated space combat and conditions when I really didn't expect it to. Thanks!
for the debris mod, Asteroid damage dosn't work for me. In effect, it does the opposite, I can plough through roids smashing them to smithereens, doing virtually no damage. Space debris does cause some damage.
I do have quite a few mods running but none AFIK effecting asteroids. Tried the hard and medium versions, same effect. tried with and without the ramming mod enabled, no difference. removing the mods reverts to vanilla settings (i bounce again with a bit of damage)
I can't replicate this on my own load order, which I have verified is conflict-free (no other mod touching the same settings as this one) by using xEdit.
Possible explanations are a mod conflict, or another mod that makes asteroids have very little health, and/or mods that give your ship a lot of health
further testing, I bought a rambler, gave it a go, works as expected.
so yes my ship which is pretty much end game with a 1840 hull and 2400 shield (without crew bonuses) appears to have some stat or component which turns it into an asteroid sweeper, the biggest ones don't even scratch the shield. Cheers anyway for the mod.
switching my shields off results in large damage from the asteroids. so I'm guessing if your shield strength is at a particular level, you are pretty much immune.
Does your ship have a mod-added shield, or is it vanilla? If you watch my video where I test asteroid collisions with a vanilla shield that has 2500 strength, you can see that I'm dead in 2 hits (hardest version). It is possible that mod-added shields could play by different rules.
If your ship is vanilla, then my only guess is certain shields could have hidden protection against collisions that would only be visible by doing a deep-dive into their stats
Cool idea and will definitely download to endorse!
Only thing stopping me from for sure using it heavily is I sometimes did like "parking" my ship near some asteroids while I wandered about the ship for various tasks, sometimes it was nice peaking out of the window and seeing myself sort of 'hidden' away amongst the asteroids lol.
Alas, Starfield's Grav Drive would be the wrong kind of FTL drive system for that. You'd need a Trek-style Warp Drive or a Star Wars-style Hyperdrive to do that. We have BattleTech/Galactica-style insta-translocate jumpdrive.
Downloaded, tested, endorsed. Would be even better if velocity was taken into account for debris (instant death when moving at "1", albeit in a weak ship and the hard version, is not ideal) but I presume this would involve a scripted solution.
I think you are correct in saying it would require scripting, I didn't see any settings that accounted for velocity. There were a few settings related to impulse, but after a test run where my ship got instantly launched 30 kilometers away after hitting an asteroid, I decided to leave them vanilla

I am in a level 150 char with a top end ship.
Still to test the ramming one.

Specifically the weapons module. it adds 50% to all shields in the game.
I've switched to a lower grade shield so all good. Thanks again for the mod :)

Noted but i don't care now ram the ISD!
(The MC80 rams the side of the ISD)
(On the bridge of the ISD)
OH BLAST!
(Gets knocked down)
Sir we lost all turbo lasers on our left hull.
(The Captain gets up)
These rebels are crazy.
