About this mod

This mod introduces several research options allowing the player to unlock ship parts and armors based on Starborn Technology. Different options are available depending on both the character's level and how many times that they've gone through the unity.

Changelogs
This is my first published mod, and I had a lot of fun (and frustration lol) making it.  Please feel free to provide balance and use feedback.

I'm not a 3d modeler so most of this mod uses vanilla assets accept where another author gave me permission to use theirs.  All thanks and credits are below.

Have you ever thought to yourself, why can't I use any of that cool Starborn Guardian technology on a regular ship or even why can't I wear a different helmet or suits based on Starborn spacesuits?  Well, fret no more.  With the right skills you can unlock Starborn Technologies or StarTech for yourself.  However, you have to have the right resources to reverse engineer, it isn't space magic.  Or maybe it is...  Regardless, going through the unity is required and the more times you've gone through the more options that you unlock.

This mod introduces several ship and armor research options unlocking ship parts and armor based off of the Starborn Guardian and the various Starborn suits.  I did my best to ensure that every ship part and armor option was fairly well balanced and didn't stand out as the absolute best.  But I also wanted them to stand out enough to be attractive options.  All research requires special projects level 1 to complete.  Ship parts require Starship Design level 4 to equip.  StarTech spacesuit and helmet research requires the normal research levels, the spacesuit design skill, and unlock suit quality modifications as well as stats based on the number of times the player has gone through the unity.

I've also re-introduced 3 manufactured resources that were cut from the game.  The Gravitic Laminate is a Tier 02 manufactured resource requiring Special Projects level 2 to craft.  The Plasma Igniter is a Tier 03 manufactured resource requiring Special Projects level 3 to craft.  And lastly, the Gravity Inducer is a Tier 03 manufactured resource requiring special Projects level 4 to craft.  Right now crafting (or console commands) is the only way to get these resources.  I will be working towards adding these to the vendors and fabricators as soon as I can learn about injection scripts and leveled item lists.  So unfortunately, until then, Special Projects 2-4 will be required for the higher level suit and helmet modifications.

Ship Research

  • Ship Research 1
  • Solar Particle Beam:  A fully automatic Class A particle beam weapon.
  • Antigravity landing gear:  Providing 6 "landing thrust" this equipment can be placed on numerous attachment points and does not have a height requirement.
  • Ship Research 2
  • Gravity Torpedo: A new class B missile using the same technology found on the Starborn Guardian.  Now any ship can mount this enigmatic weapon
  • Heavy Solar Beam: A class B heavy beam based on the same technology found on the Starborn Guardian.  It's power requirements are quite high, but it packs a big punch.
  • Experimental Gravity Displacement Engine: A fast and light class A "engine" based on the Starborn Guardian's drive technology.
  • Ship Research 3
  • Solar Disruptor:  A beefed up version of the Solar Particle Beam, this class C particle weapon provides quite the punch.
  • Experimental Gravity Wave Engine:  A class B engine providing a balance between speed and thrust.
  • Ship Research 4
  • Experimental Singularity Field Engine:  A class C engine capable of providing more speed than usual engines of it's class.

Each weapon has three different levels corresponding to the different levels of weapons that come with the Starborn Guardian.  NG 1 & 2 provide the basic version.  NG 3 & 4 provide the level II and NG 5+ provides the level III.
Hopefully coming in a future version as I learn more about modding.
  • Cloaking
  • Better energy beam graphics (Seriously, the nova flare is the only beam option and it has issues with multiple weapons)
  • More ship part graphics.

Armor Research
  • Helmet & Spacesuit Research 1
  • Unlocks basic crafting of the Suit, Helmet, Accessory Armor Plates, and Accessory Cloak
  • Unlocks the Materia and Locus stats as well as the Calibrated quality
  • Helmet & Spacesuit Research 2
  • Unlocks the Tenebris and Solis stats as well as the Refined quality
  • Helmet & Spacesuit Research 3
  • Unlocks the Gravitas and Bellum stats as well as the Advanced quality
  • Helmet & Spacesuit Research 4
  • Unlocks the Tempus and Avitus stats as well as the Superior quality
  • Helmet & Spacesuit Research 5
  • Unlocks the Venator stats

The Startech Spacesuit is a combination of suit and boost pack and has all regular suit and boost pack mod slots available like any regular suit.  Stats are based loosely on the original starborn armors for balance but have been updated to be competitive with regular armors.  Unity level options and appearance skins are based on the number of times that you have gone through the unity.  Both the suit and the helmet come with 3 random legendries helping to close the gap between the starborn armor's 3 and the maximum of 9 for regular armors.

All armor may be crafted at the industrial workbench.

  • Startech Spacesuit (Astra) (available from NG 1+)
  • Most NG+ unlock a new appearance based on the regular starborn armor.  Materia and Locus are the same textures based on the vanilla suits.
  • Emissary Helmet (Astra) (available from NG 1+)
  • Appearance options: Astra (NG 1+), Solis (NG 5+), and Tempus (NG 8+)
  • Hunter Helmet (Materia) (available from NG 2+)
  • Appearance options: Materia/Locus (NG 2+), Tenebris (NG 4+), Avitus (NG 9+), and Tempus (NG 10+)
  • Hunter Accessory Plates (Materia/Locus) (available from NG 2+)
  • Appearance options: Materia/Locus (NG 2+), Tenebris (NG 3+), Avitus (NG 9+)
  • Emissary Accessory Cloak (Materia/Locus) (NG 3+)
  • Appearance options: Materia/Locus (NG 3+), Bellum (NG 7+), Tempus (NG 8+)*
  • * I'm not sure why this one is a thing since the vanilla doesn't have a cloak, but the cloak has a unique appearance with this skin so I put it here.
  • Emissary Accessory Plates (Solis) (available from NG 5+)
  • Appearance options: Solis (NG 5+), Gravitas (NG 6+), and Tempus (NG 8+)
  • Hunter Accessory Cloak (Avitus) (available from NG 9+)
  • Appearance options: Avitus (NG 9+), and Venator (NG 10+)

Hopefully coming in a future version as I learn more about modding and the spell effects for some suit mods.
  • Increased boost fuel
  • Fall damage reduction
  • Increased Quantum Energy capacity
  • Increased Quantum Energy recharge rate
  • Increased Starborn Power effects
  • and whatever else I can think of (I'm open to suggestions here.)

Options
Optional parts to the Startech mod is a patch to make the Mystery Gravis Spacesuit and Helmet craftable as separate items.  (Thank you TheRealMcDan)  They have static legendary effects based on the normal suit.  I can make it randomized if the community asks for it.  This suit and helmet uses the same armor research to unlock the Quality but it's base stats are fixed and unaffected by the number of times you have gone through the unity.  It also includes two skins, a Spartan Green and an Onyx coloring (Thank you Vaultdweller)

Credits and inspirations.
Thank you to TheRealMcDan for allowing the use of his Gravis assets from their mod Modular Starborn Gravis Suit
Thank you to Vaultdweller for giving permission to use their Green Semi-Powered Infiltration Gravis Suit Retexture and Onyx Void Gravis Suit Retexture skins.
A huge shoutout and thank you to TheOGTennessee for their encourgment and advice from both Reddit and here on NexusMods.  Thier TN's Class M (and Starborn Guardian) Ship Building and TN's Modular Starborn Suits mods really helped me learn how to make this mod.
Thank you to TheWulfy for their help modding on Reddit and their Starborn Suit Overhaul and Gravis Suit Overhaul mods which helped me to understand starborn suit modding.
Credit to ParasiteX and their mod Starborn not Toddborn - Modular Spacesuit and buffed Guardian ship as a learning resource.  I couldn't make the stuff they did work in this, but it helped me learn more about things that are possible for potential future updates.
