Starfield

This is to log changes I plan to make to the Quests of Starfield. Feel free to comment with suggestions. This will be made when the CK2 is released.

General

  • Stop the questlog filling up from rumors. Quests should only start when you accept them.
  • Remove quest notes after a quest is complete, to stop them cluttering the inventory.

Main Story
  • Remove all but three temples. The one that gives you your powers, Barrett's one, and the one at the end of the game.
  • Put the temples on worlds without life, so you don't need to wonder why nobody noticed them.
  • Remove gravitational anomaly traits from all planets.
  • The first temple gives you the powers from the six artifacts you have already picked up.
  • After that you get a power by picking up an Artifact, without the temple.
  • In NG+ your powers level up when you pickup the artifacts, no temples needed unless you are playing the story again.
  • Remove all mentions to other temples in the dialogue.
  • Make Walter not ask you for help out loud, to let you have a break in the questline after gaining the powers.
  • Take two Artifacts from the Hunter, and add radiant quests to get them, to give a delay before Walters quest.
  • Add an option to change the chance of random universes appearing after going into the Unity.
  • Change NG+ likelihoods based on previous game. If Sam died Cora is more likely to show up etc.
  • Make Starborn random encounters only show up after A High Price to Pay, to make the Hunters appearance more impactful.
  • Toggle to remove random Starborn Encounters.
  • After a week in game, make Barret rescue himself. To allow players to roleplay avoiding the MQ.

Side Quests
  • Force Failure to Communicate to always spawn in a single system, so you can avoid it if you want.

What is truly needed is a rewrite of the story. Also hiring professional or semiprofessional voice actors to make new dialogue with proper direction. The whole thing would have to take up almost as much space as the base game. It might even end up taking up more space given all the new things that would be needed. Long story short, a true overhaul would be a massive project that would require full dedication from a large team.

    Great ideas.

Personally I have no interest in magical powers and I don’t think I’m alone. It would be interesting to have some other type of rewards associated with the main story line. Maybe some alien tech and blueprints that allows you to craft some cool weapons.  It would also be nice to be able to turn off Starborn encounters completely. I guess I like the game play and combat but find the main story quest, antagonists, and rewards too high fantasy.  I want more reasons to explore and build outposts on the outer systems. So alien temples with some decent rewards scattered about the deep star field would be a really good motivator to get out there and survey worlds and systems.
