Hi, sorry for the late reply. The rules are actually: (rule 1, on the right) 空手無先手 - literally: "karate no first strike", or as Mr. Miyagi puts it, "karate for defense only". (rule 2, on the left) 先正其心 - literally: "first have sound mind", though Mr. Miyagi says "first learn rule 1". I know the characters came out pretty sloppy, but being limited to an area of 16x48 pixels makes it almost impossible to replicate them with any real precision.
On a side note, however, the characters you have above are actually the Kanji for "Kanji", or "Chinese characters", as the Japanese developed their writing system from Chinese characters in the 5th century.
