If you want to buy me coffee, I now have a ko-fi.

Here is a bit of flavor text to convince you on why you want this mod. If you are already convinced skip to the first picture.

This mod wants to fix three main problems in the base game:

You are playing with a friend and you are in the early game. You need over half of your energy for watering the crop, do it diligently every day, because you don't have sprinklers, while your friend runs off and does other stuff. Come harvesting day they somehow catch you off guard and harvest everything before you can. Guess who gets all the juicy farming experience?

Ok, this was an exaggeration, but it does happen to an extend. The farming experience being so backloaded also provides other progression problems like being stuck just a few points of XP away from an important level up.

But the biggest issue in my opinion is that as soon as you reach sprinklers, there is no reason to not use them. Even more so there is never a reason to upgrade your watering can, or even use those great new enchantments from 1.5 (spoiler?). This mod fixes that by giving you an incentive to use your watering can (not even necessarily every day if you don't want to), at least until you are farming level 10.

Feature 1: Watering crops with the watering can (not sprinklers or rain) grants a configurable amount of farming experience:

You gain the XP amount per watered tile! That's why the default amount is 1 XP. While this may seem low, be aware that most crops grant between 10-30 XP when harvested so depending on the days to mature that is 1-3 XP per day, so even 1 or 2 more XP every day is a big increase. That's why there is also an option to only have a chance to get XP per tile.

Additionally, there is an option whether watering foraging seeds should grant Foraging XP.

Feature 2:  Crops may die if they are not watered (sprinklers and rain also count):

I had this feature written for a while now, but never saw a good way to release it. If you want the immersion of the punishment of forgetting to water your crops for a few days (and no lucky rain saving the day), or as a tradeoff for using feature 1, enable this feature (it's disabled by default). You can set after how many days your plants can wither and die from not getting water. You can also make it so that every plant has only a chance to die every day once the amount of unwatered days has been reached. The default is 100% chance to die after 3 days of not getting water. Crops that don't require watering (like Fiber Seeds) and Qi Fruit are excluded.

Feature 3: Can't refill watering can with salt water:

This makes it so you can't refill your watering can with salty ocean water like at the beach, the beach farm map or the ginger island farm. As both the beach farm map and the ginger island farm have freshwater spots (the ponds and the river), this is only for immersion and not to make the game more difficult (it's disabled by default).

Compatibility:
The experience gain doesn't work with 'Joy Of Efficiency' and I don't intend to change that right now. It would be a really complicated and ugly solution while it would be really easy to integrate the XP gain into a custom version of 'Joy Of Efficiency' if you know how to do that.

Requirements:
SMAPI: I built version 1.2 of this mod based on version 4.0.1. It should be compatible with a few future versions and a few prior version. You can get the latest version of SMAPI here.

Installation:
Install SMAPI. Then extract the content of the downloaded zip file into the SMAPI mods folder, change the config file inside the mod and start the game via the SMAPI launcher or Steam if you have set the launch option for SMAPI in Steam.

You can also optionally use Generic Mod Config Menu to change the config ingame without the need to restart (otherwise you need to restart) but it is not required to be installed.

Updating:
Simply delete the prior version, install the new one and check the updated config created after the first startup (Changes require restart to take effect if you have not made them with Generic Mod Config Menu).

Uninstallation:
You can delete this mod from your mods folder at any time to remove the features.
