This mod combines many configurable features/ tweaks for the foraging life style you all thought about at least once:

  • Tappers reward XP and give products with quality
  • Mushroom boxes give products with quality (1.6 added XP!)
  • Berry bushes give products with quality (1.6 added XP!)
  • XP from destroying twigs and small stumps
  • Check on your trees with a tree menu
  • Consistent mushroom tree tapper and harvesting calendar
  • Common fiddlehead fern
  • Forage based survival burger
  • Fine vs wild grapes

1. Tappers:

1.1. Tapper products have quality:

How lucrative is being a tapper? Not lucrative enough? Then use this feature to give all your tapper products (including from mushroom trees) a bit more value based on a criterion of your choice:
Options for the config:
0: Disabled
1: Forage level based
2: Forage level based (no botanist perk)
3: Tree age based (one quality raise a month)
4: Tree age based (one quality raise a year)

(Tree age sadly only starts counting from when you install the mod.)

There is also a second optional config option for balancing: Tapper products only have quality when you have the Tapper perk (level 10 foraging), default: false.

1.2. Tapper harvesting grants XP:

Harvesting grants a configurable amount of foraging experience on harvest (3 XP by default, set to 0 to disable feature, for reference: chopping down a tree grants 12 XP and picking up a foraging good grants 7 XP). Also works with Automate.

2. Mushroom boxes:

2.1. Mushroom box products have quality:

Mushrooms, a foraging good, seemed like the obvious choice for the farm cave of a forager. But for some reason only the fruit bats option worked with foraging level/ botanist perk. This feature finally addresses that. It's also compatible with Craftable Mushroom Boxes Unofficial Update (updated version of Craftable Mushroom Boxes by foggywizard).

Also works with AutomateDeluxe Grabber Redux and One Click Shed Reloader.

2.2. Mushroom box harvesting grants XP:

The 1.6 update added this to the base game!

3. Berry bushes:

3.1. Berry bush berries have quality:

A dedicated forager can harvest a huge amount of salmonberries and blackberries even in their first year, but early on they only really have one use: energy food. Later on with the botanist perk and something else you probably know about they are worth a lot more. This feature bridges the gap until foraging level 10 (if you even want botanist) by making berry bush berries have quality based on your foraging level. Be aware that this makes them not able to stack in one stack in your inventory.

Also works with Automate and Deluxe Grabber Redux.

3.2. Berry bush harvesting grants XP:

The 1.6 update added this to the base game!

4. Change how many days tappers need to produce:

By popular demand, you can now adjust how long tappers on maple, oak and pine trees need to produce, so you can harvest them all on the same day. You can set the time needed in days. But to keep it balanced, the value of maple syrup, oak resin and pine tar scales according to the duration it needed to produce, so they keep the same value per day ratio of the base game, around 21.3g per day for normal tappers and 50g per day for heavy tappers.

I recommend setting all three to 7 days, so you get the benefit of harvesting them all on the same day for 150g each, but keep the vanilla feeling.

5. Destroying twigs and small stumps grants XP:

You know how destroying a stone grants 1 mining XP? Destroying a twig does not give one foraging 1 XP in the base game. Now it does!

I also added the option to add a bit more XP to destroying the stump after chopping down a tree. In the base game clearing the stump only grants 1 XP while the rest of the tree grants 12 XP. That does not seem fair!

6. Tree menu to check on your normal and fruit trees

The Tree Menu allows you to check how old your trees and fruit trees are, which quality they produce and how long they need for their next produce, all according to your current mod settings. It's used similarly to Lookup Anything, simply set a hotkey, hover on a tree and press it.

Thank you for the request, magoozor. The menu can be translated to other languages.

7. Mushroom tree changes

7.1. Bug fix: Mushroom tree tappers are affected by heavy tappers

The 1.6 update fixed this bug.

7.2. Mushroom tree tapper consistency changes (disabled when 'tapper days needed changes' are disabled)

In the base game mushroom tree tappers are a pain to deal with. Their pattern, especially for optimal harvests, is incredibly irregular. This feature streamlines them by
  • making all kinds of mushrooms in every season take 2 days instead of varying wildly
  • making them produce Purple Mushrooms on the next day when harvesting on the 28th of the month (in addition to the 10th and 20th)

This makes it possible to simply harvest every even day and get every Purple Mushroom, and your fall will be less stressful too.
While this may seem like a loss of value to remove the ability to get Red Mushrooms every day in fall, it's not. Math:

An entire optimally harvested year (including winter if you installed a mod like Tree Overhaul - A Tappers Dream installed) provides:
  • 28 Common Mushrooms (40g) + 31 Red Mushrooms (75g) + 8 Purple Mushrooms (250g) = 5445g.
With this feature you get:
  • 24 Common Mushrooms (40g) + 20 Red Mushrooms (75g) + 12 Purple Mushrooms (250g) = 5460g.

Additionally, this pattern rewards using heavy tappers even more.

Did I convince you? Then check out:

7.3. Mushroom tree tapper harvest recommendations calendar:

This adds icons on the calendar/ billboard at home (or from Billboard Anywhere) to easily keep track of when you will get which mushrooms (disabled by default). It does not update for using heavy tappers (because then you will have to harvest every day anyway).

(This screenshot uses the mod Berry Season Reminder, which I highly recommend!)

8. Common fiddlehead fern:

Summer foraging always seemed a bit off. Yes, it was not difficult to get a strong axe to access the secret forest early on but why is it the only season with only 3 foraging goods in the bundle and wild seeds pack? This feature frees fiddlehead fern from the secret forest and makes it spawn in a few other areas early on, whilst also adding it to the summer foraging bundle and the summer wild seeds pack, including the recipe.

But stay alert, with their green color they are tricky to spot in some areas, but trust me, there are quite a few there. They also don't grow at the bus stop or the railroad and still grow in the secret forest at a reduced rate.

Works especially well with the next feature: Forage based survival burger!

9. Forage based survival burger (originally its own mod):

(The 1.6 update changed the survival burger to be a foraging level 8 reward, but this feature reverts that.)

Pre 1.6 description: You reach foraging level 2 and unlock the survival burger recipe. You think "Great! The field snack was fantastic, let's see what this is!" Then you see it "A cave carrot from mining and an... eggplant? You can only get that in fall and only by farming. Why is that a level 2 foraging reward?"

If you had that internal dialogue countless times too, then this is the feature for you. It replaces the old weird survival burger cooking recipe with 4 forage based crafting recipes, one for each season! Buy yourself some bread (or find it in trash cans) and begin crafting!

The crafting recipes grant the sweet foraging buff (early game quality raises and axe proficiency) but are barely/ barely not energy efficient. However if you have the kitchen unlocked you can use cooking recipes that yield 2 burgers instead of 1 (less waste when preparing food on a countertop with a good knife compared to doing it with your hands) and you can get cheaper bread too!

10. Fine vs wild grapes:

This is just a small tweak that makes the grape starter crop in fall drop a different item than the forage grape item in summer. This item has a slightly different sprite and is called "Fine Grape" and most notably it's worth considerably more than the wild forage grapes. Any bundles or modded recipes will still ask for the wild grapes item, but the fine grape item has the same gifting like and dislike stats and can of course also be turned into wine, jelly and raisins.

Compatibility:

compatible with

Requirements:
SMAPI: I built version 4.2 of this mod based on version 4.0.7. It should be compatible with a few future versions and a few prior version. You can get the latest version of SMAPI here.

Installation:
Install SMAPI. Then extract the content of the downloaded zip file into the SMAPI mods folder and start the game via the SMAPI launcher or Steam if you have set the launch option for SMAPI in Steam. The config file will be generated inside the folder of the mod. Close the game to edit it and restart the game.

You can also optionally use Generic Mod Config Menu to change the config in-game without the need to restart (otherwise you need to restart) but it is not required to be installed.

Updating:
Simply delete the prior version, install the new one and check the updated config created after the first startup (Changes require restart to take effect if you have not made them with Generic Mod Config Menu).

Uninstallation:
You can delete this mod from your mods folder at any time to remove the features. If you added something to the summer bundle since adding the mod the fiddlehead fern ingredient will remain.
