Some bushes, especially in modded areas or at the edges of maps, are not "real" interactive bushes. They're just drawn directly onto the map texture. Destroyable Bushes can't remove those.
If you're not sure whether a bush is "real", try hitting it with an axe, or just right-clicking it. If it moves and makes noise, it's "real", and you should be able to remove it. If nothing happens, it's probably fake.
"I accidentally removed a bush I want back, like the one for the quest 'A Winter Mystery'. What do I do?"
If it doesn't regrow naturally (which takes 3 days by default), download the mod Reset Terrain Features. You can search for the latest version here, since it currently relies on unofficial updates.
Go to the area with the bushes you want back. Press the L key to bring up the mod menu. Click the "Bushes" checkbox. Click "Reset" to reset all of them in that area.
"How many hits does it take to remove a bush?"
8 hits with the basic axe. Each upgrade deals slightly more damage. The final axe only takes 2 hits.

This is nice Mod, but this mod not supported destroy SVEMOD bushes and Ginger Island Ginger lsland bushes and beach bushes,i hope author increase, very thanks.
Some of SVE's bushes become destroyable after specific quests (e.g. in the western forest). Others are "fake" bushes drawn onto the map. There's no way to destroy them without editing the map itself. That's also true for some of the plants on Ginger Island, like on the western beach.
Certain trees and bushes on the map don't want to regrow. Particularly some in front of the theater that replaces the community center, as well as some tapable trees beyond the fence (normally unaccusable) south of Robin's house and some pines (also normally unaccusable) below the waterfall on the way to the mines. The trees are all wild tapable trees. These seem to have all been placed there to cover up layering issues either in the game proper or by some mod. Is it possible to make the mod force those back?
This mod has nothing to do with trees, but you can probably use Reset Terrain Features to replace bushes or trees that aren't able to grow back normally. Press L to bring up its menu.
Had the time to do some testing on this. The Reset Terraine mod did not replace the objects in question, so they're probably not a typical bush/tree object. They don't go through a cycle like the others unless the map changes for the season so maybe that'll prompt them to regrow we'll see I guess. I don't have any season changing mods atm. I think they may have been on an unusual layer as well since any trees I move to the tree spots end up under the map art that the originals were meant to cover up. The add_bush command and the Let's Move It mod help cover the bushes up for now at least.
Strange. I guess you'd need to figure out which mod edits that map and ask the developers. Presumably one of the major expansion mods, but I'm not sure which offhand.
As far as I know, the base game always draws out-of-bounds trees and such directly onto the map, so they can't be cut down or interacted with outside of map edits.
Hey, please help me. I used this mod to destroy the bush up by the playstructure that Krobus hides behind in the winter mystery quest and it won't grow back. I have the regrowth set to 3 days and it has been a couple seasons in game. I need that bush back to shake it and complete that quest so I can unlock the secret notes. Any ideas are much appreciated. Thanks!
hi!! if i install this mod and break a bush with it, then uninstall the mod, will the bush remain absent or will it reappear? i just need one annoying little bush on my farm gone and that's it lmao
Any bushes you cut down will stay removed if the mod is uninstalled (or if you set the "when bushes regrow" setting to "null").
By default, Stardew lets you cut down a few very specific bushes on certain farm types. After you do, they're gone forever. This mod is what adds regrowth, along with permission to cut all the other ones.
Just wanted to say thanks so much for this mod, you have made this perfectionist very happy while designing my farms!
I was just wondering if anyone knew whether it is possible (using this mod or otherwise) to remove the green bush things on the beach sections of the Ginger Island farm? (Link to picture for reference: https://imgur.com/a/YGy0Qqi)
Thanks so much for getting back to me, much appreciated!
In case anyone reading this is also looking for a solution to this - I just tested Map Editor and was successfully able to remove the green bushes and tidepools on the Ginger Island farm beach by copying and pasting a 'sand' tile over them.
Already amazing. Kudos and thanks for cleaning up my Ginger Island.
Is there any chance this could be expanded to the "Plain Bush" (https://i.imgur.com/oUrwZ7B.png) that otherwise cannot be removed from Ginger Island? Relevant for users of Modest Maps Ginger Island (8742) or other island replacements for existing saves. (https://i.imgur.com/gvA1Wbv.jpg)
Thanks for the suggestion and examples. Currently, the mod avoids those because they're walnut bushes; they involve extra code that generates them, synchronizes them in multiplayer, etc. Next time I get a chance, I'll test whether it's safe to let them be cut down.
I never comment on these threads, but this is the most wholesome and polite exchange I have seen anywhere on the internet in SO LONG. Thank you both for making me feel better about humanity today. <3
Some mods have "hard-coded" bushes that aren't actually in-game objects, but just drawn onto the map. If hitting a bush with an axe doesn't make it shake or make a rustling sound, then it probably isn't a real bush, and can't be removed by this mod.
Some maps also come with a "config.json" file that let you remove some bushes manually, though.
I just found out if you select the option to removed pre-built fences on the farm it will remove some of the bushes. Not sure if its the ones you want but it worked for me
No, sorry. Those are drawn directly onto the in-game maps; they don't work like normal trees or bushes. Removing them would be much more complicated than the rest of this mod.
in the Generic Mod Config Menu, "Destroyable bush locations" is blank, and it doesn't seem like I can destroy any bushes. I *am* using a custom farm, but I can't seem to destroy any kind of bush. Should this text box have something in it?
That field is only used to restrict the mod. If it's blank, you should be able to destroy bushes anywhere. You can use GMCM's reset button to make sure it's set to default options, just in case.
A few common issues: 1. Have you upgraded the axe at least once (to copper or better)? The default axe currently can't remove bushes. 2. Do the bushes rustle or make noise when you hit them? If they don't, they're usually "fake" bushes drawn directly on the map, which this mod can't change. Most bushes on non-modded maps are "real", though, so it should work on them.

In any case, you can use Reset Terrain Features to reset bushes, including that quest one.
Install that unofficial fixed version, load your game, and press L to bring up the menu. Check the "Bushes" box and click "Reset" when you're in town.
If you're editing DestroyableBushes/config.json, it should say this:
"WhenBushesRegrow": null,

And sorry, but those are drawn directly onto the map file, rather than being interactive objects like most bushes. This mod won't affect them.
They can be removed by editing the map, though, so it's possible some other mod has done it, e.g. a custom island farm.

I just confirmed that I can murder the walnut tree blocking full utilization of the alternate Island Farm map.
Im using grandpa's farm (a modded farm)
