I have decided to update this mod the best that I possibly can for 1.6. I've gone through and tested it the best that I can. Given how many glitches there were in the previous versions, it wasn't an easy fix. However, there is one major snag:
Modded farmhouses will not work with this mod unless they have a config option for cabins!
As of writing this (6/28/24) the only known compatible modded farmhouses are Seasonal Garden Farmhouse V2, Lune Farmhouse, and Aimon's Tidy Cozy Farmhouse (version 2.0.4). The others will need configs in order to be made compatible. When I have time, I will reach out to authors of modded farmhouses and request configs to be added.
If you discover any more issues, please report them in the Bugs tab! Make sure to include a copy of your SMAPI log as well.
In your description is says intended for single player use...I've been to Robin and tried what I've thought is every obvious possibility, but how do you go about upgrading the cabins??
Would anything added in this cause a cabin to become a well on upgrading? I cannot pinpoint which of my mods did it but when I did the second upgrade, my cabins all turned into wells upon completion. The base and first upgrade worked fine. Did not have a chance to test the last upgrade as there was no option to progress.
Had to wipe the steam deck so I am reloading all my mods. I’ll see if I can get a smapi log to assist.
I will be contacting Aimon and Lnh soon as their farmhouses are quite popular and I would like people who use those mods to be able to use this one too.
EDIT: The ability to have a cellar w/ your large 'storage cabin' is quite nice. And also, there are generally more exterior cabin texture mods than there are shed exterior mods, and they tend to look nicer. So despite the fact that there are mods that can modify sheds into a viable storage option, I now understand that this mod has its pros, as well! 👍
I honestly have a question: Why should I download this? I couldn't find an actual reason anywhere giving an explanation of "WHY" on this mod page.
The closest thing I found was: "Want to clear your cabins for storage or additional decorating space?" ...To which my thoughts are: "Uh. I have literally never wanted that...In my experience, when you want more storage/decorating space, you build a storage shed! Isn't that literally what a storage shed is for?"
Apologies if this is a dumb question, but...just what reason is there to use this in a singleplayer game? It feels like modifying multiplayer cabins to act as empty storage sheds could simply be accomplished by using storage sheds & not cabins! Right??? Am I missing something? Personally, I try not to download excess mods if I don't need to, because the more mods you have, the more opportunities there are for a conflict to emerge, thereby increasing the likelihood of problems down the line!
Is there something about this mod that I'm missing? Is there some reason that I'm not comprehending, in which modifying cabins to act as a storage shed is somehow beneficial? I'm honestly baffled right now. It feels like I'm either being an idiot & missing something obvious, or this just isn't necessary at all? Please enlighten me! xD
The biggest reason for me is the fact that, when I made this mod, I absolutely hated sheds. I hated how big of a footprint they were upon placing them and the fact that they still had extremely small interiors upon upgrading them. You needed at least 3-5 sheds for how many kegs it would take to process all of the farm produce. Now, with a fully upgraded cabin using this mod, you can place roughly the same amount of kegs in a single space. No more spending the majority of your game day harvesting and jumping between sheds.
Now, with 1.6 buildings are more customizable. It is easy to make sheds smaller. Heck, I've seen a few mods that actually do so. One of the reasons I updated this mod to work with 1.6 is the cabin skins. People make a lot of excellent cabin skins and I can't use them because I only play singleplayer.
And then there's the cellar. Now, each individual cabin gets their own cellar upgrade. If you use a modded cellar map, multiply that by however many cabins you build and that's a lot of casks! That's something that sheds can't do.
These are just a few of the reasons why I personally use this mod. With the way modding is today, the possibilities of what you can do is endless. Some people just want their farms to look pretty while others want to utilize as much space as possible for maximum profits.
Hmm, I see. I didn't take into account the cellar! I suppose it does provide certain benefits, depending on your preferences & combination of other mods. I initially thought that, with the versatility of modding in 1.6, you could easily find a shed to be larger/a different design/whatever (including outside design, like with AT). But there's definitely pros and cons on both sides. Cellars would be really nice! Unfortunately, I plan to use Aimon's Tidy Cozy Farmhouse(which, ironically, I found immediately after looking at this mod xD). And at first glance, it doesn't look compatible, but as soon as I hear otherwise, I will 100% give this a try! :D
😮 It looks like Aimon put out an update a while ago (v2.0.4)! 😄 I don't have time tonight to test it, but I'm just presuming it works, lol. I appreciate you getting in touch with them regarding compatibility! 👍
I love this mod! But I'm having some issues with it not displaying or deleting crafted flooring. It seems to only happen on the right side. https://smapi.io/log/6e324228d44f43b886c89ee123d8311f
Hmmm that is a very odd issue. I'll have to look into it.
Edit1: I know what the problem is. That one piece of code causing the issue is also the one piece of code that is very much needed to separate the cabin map from the Farmhouse. Until I find a better way to separate the two maps I'm unfortunately going to have to say that this is something I cannot fix.
Thanks for all your work, I love this mod (with walls). I'm playing with SVE and the exits are not exits, that is I can't get out of the cabin once I enter.
Hi Jen! First of all, thank you for all your mods, i really enjoy them!
For any chance, is this mod uncompatible with the 64 version of Stardew? I had to switch to the 64 version due to some memory issues with my modded save and for some reason, whenever i try to get inside of a cabin with this mod installed the game stays at black screen through an infinite loading screen. Removing the mod solved the problem tho.

Edit: I figured it out by going through the older posts. Why is Upgrade Empty Cabins not listed in the requirements?

Thats why I'm using it.

Hopefully a better way can be figured out eventually, but I can fake the look im trying to do with rugs or such probs.
