It doesn't add anything to any other NPC vanilla or Modded. Just adds 2 new NPCs. there are folders in the beta where changes to NPCs can be made, I just haven't done that. Can't really change other NPCs until the Children are actually done.
Hi, potentially dumb question as this is my first time using mods, and I can't find the answer anywhere else. When my child became an NPC, it didn't look anything like me (the child is nowhere to be found, I only know from looking at the menu). I know deluxe art wasn't updated for 1.6, but I'm not sure how to customize the child's appearance. Is there something I can do to fix this?
deluxe art was not updated for the 1.6 update changes. it still works, but I do not plan on updating it for quite some time so moved it to old. Standard would be better because I'll update it if something is discovered wrong, and it easier to make custom changes to.
Mods that change babies and toddlers work with Babies and Toddlers. The Farmer's Children Art does not effect Babies and Toddlers, only LittleNPCs.
If you don't have The Farmer's Children Art, LittleNPC will automatically use toddler art for the LittleNPCs. This is a bad idea because of the playing with ball animation (see images) and reading book pose that toddlers do not have.

it's probably telling you you need a content pack for LittleNPC, which is The Farmer's Children.
