The update is bigger than I thought. I am still working on it, but no ETA for release. For now have a look at Tree Overhaul - A Tapper's Dream, which has a lot of feature overlap with this mod.
does this mod remove the limit of space required between trees? I wanna have a Live Tree-fence but they only grow if the 3x3 area around is free of other mature trees, I'm looking for a mod to remove that stupid thing
I love this mod, and so far it works great! The only "problem" I'm noticing is that tree's are also spreading outside of the playable area on my farm (like in the border/area dividers of four-corners farm). They're unreachable for me to cut down, so they keep spreading seed, growing, and covering all the non-accessible farm area with trees. By year 3, almost all of the original decorative farm areas are completely covered. Is there a way to make the spread only to plowable tiles?
I have also found this problem! Since the 1.5V update. I wasn't sure if it was this mod or a combination of others (and I didn't know how to check), but if others are having the same problem...? Until the issue is fixed, I have the Tree Transplant mod and that lets you talk to Robin and move trees - including those out of bounds, which can help keep it under control! :)
Thank you both for reporting this - I'm working on reproducing it. Would it be possible to get a SMAPI log (if possible containing a sleep in the affected farm), and a copy of your Aggressive Acorns config?
Thank you so much for this mod, it's one I never play without since you released it!! I'm not so sure if this counts as a bug, but when the option "DoTappedSpread" is set to false, my mushroom trees still spread when they have heavy tappers placed on them. I haven't checked if normal trees also spread with heavy tappers or if it's just a mush thing. I'm not using any of the mods that you've said may be incompatible but let me know if a log would be helpful. Thanks again for your hard work!!
For anyone trying to make comparisons with other mods but got lost in the details:
I had switched over to this mod from A Tappers Dream for my latest game, because this one provided juust a little more granular control (like the exact MaxShadedGrowthStage and DailyGrowthChance) plus some extra features like seeds spreading over long grass and mushroom stumps regrowing.
In comparison, A Tappers Dream has an on/off toggle for shaded growth, vanilla/double toggle for growth chance, and seems to better support the new (SDV 1.5) features (for now), so I decided to switch back (for now). Other than these, they're very similar mods, so don't think as hard about it as I have... x)
Thank you phrasefable for the progress report, and providing alternatives to people. Hope to see an update in the future.
p.s. Just to be sure, there isn't anything special with the uninstallation, right? Any leftover data (in my save etc.) I should be worried about?
Thanks for the comment and for trying my mod! Other than finer configuration control (as you said), I think the only major feature difference compared to ATD is that AA can allow spread seeds to replace grass.
Nothing special needs to be done when uninstalling.
Vanilla Compatibility: If the SMAPI compatibility list is to be believed, Aggressive Acorns (AA) at least launches. I would assume that if it can launch, then all the current features will work for pre-1.5 vanilla content. For the new content*:
Mahogany trees will work, but with the same growth rate as any other tree.
Heavy tappers will work as expected, but the trees they are on will spread even if the config is set to disallow spread while tapped.
Unfortunately all trees in the Fern Islands farm (probably) won't spread. They will definitely follow the same seasonal growth rules as elsewhere, rather than the special rules 1.5 introduces for that location.
By the end of Jan*** the second week of March: Update for vanilla 1.5, and updated version for 1.4. Include a fix for compatibility issues with SVE.
Soon after: Some changes to config options as raised below in comment section, and a couple of very minor fixes.
Later: Option for consistent growth using new 1.5 TerrainFeature::modData feature.
Note on Mod Compatibility: Despite earlier efforts, AA still does not play nice with anything that changes how saving works, be that Save Anywhere or TXML Loader (and hence SVE). Update (1) above will fix this. For the meantime, a hackish way that may fix this is to have AA load earlier than these incompatible mods, either by renaming its folder, or changing their manifests to add a dependency on AA.
*: I'm guessing, on account of not yet having installed the update to play or decompile and inspect. **: If it doesn't let me know so I can edit this post accordingly. ***: Take with a grain of salt.
1. THANK YOU. This is awesome, exactly what I was looking for. 2. Would it be possible to rephrase the configuration description/readme for the PreventScythe setting? The name implies that "true" protects saplings from being whacked by the scythe, but the description reads backwards: "Whether immature trees are destroyed by melee weapons." To me this reads that "true" would *destroy* saplings. Could you change this to "Whether immature trees are protected from melee weapons"? Unless I have it backwards and PreventScythe=true does allow sapling demolition. 3. I'm seconding the post below me, if/when you next have modding time/enthusiasm I would love some indicator that a tree has a seed. A potential snag is the alternate tree images used by e.g. Eemie's recolor. But it would be a really neat feature if you could make it work 4. Did I say thank you for making this mod? I did? Well, you deserve another one. Thank you!
1,4) Thanks! :D 2) You're right, it is phrased quite confusingly. I'm trying to improve all the documentation/description, so I'll make sure to do it with that. 3) Haha, when I have time, yeah. Got a couple of ideas to try, but no promises they'll work.
I really want to use this, but it's not working with Save Anywhere, which I need because I don't always have time to finish a day. It says that Aggressive Acorns has higher protection level, so Save Anywhere can't process it. Can I do anything about that?
Unfortunately the way I implemented it means that it doesn't play nice with anything that changes the way saving works, be that Save Anywhere or TMXLoader. An update to fix this is on its way. I started four months ago though, and haven't got super far, so I can't make any promises regarding how soon it will be released. In the meantime, I would suggest looking at 'A Tapper's Dream' to see if it can do what you want (https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/260), or tracking this mod to be notified of the update (button is above the picture bar).
thank you for recommending my mod, phrasefable. I looked at your version of solving this problem while it was recommended instead of my mod on https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Modding:Mod_compatibility when I had not updated my mod. it's really nice that we can have two different approaches to the same issue, one cleaner but not as compatible, and one a bit simpler and more compatible.
Does this work outside of the farm? I can get it to work perfectly on the farm but it doesn't seem to do anything in the forest. Is there anything I can do?

I'll still come back because I really appreciate your mod and your hard work! Have a great day!

However, the recent comments (and bug reports (oof)) have lit a fire under me; expect an update in the next couple of days!

Heavy tappers are a new 1.5 feature that AA isn't updated for yet. Thanks for the heads-up

I'll experiment and share the results for clarification (unless I forget).

"PreventScythe": true
...does indeed protect saplings from the scythe.
