A new boat has docked at the harbor of Pelican Town! What is it doing there, and who is inside?

On its surface, this mod adds one simple gameplay mechanic that should fit seamlessly into vanilla saves. Underneath, there are multiple fully-fleshed NPCs and locations, promising a deep amount of new content. The events and writing in this mod lean towards magical realism, and aim to mirror the unique flavor of the vanilla game.

The Boat
This ship is filled with the finest equipment and staff that research can buy! FIASA is a Stardew Valley mimic of NASA, inspired by NASA's exploration of the deepest parts of our oceans.  FIASA is doing similar work, especially in relation to coral reefs, changing climate, and protecting the ecosystem.

The research boat is busy, however, and travels all over to conduct climactic testing. Therefore, it only docks at the harbor during the Summer and Winter, is not open on Wednesdays and Saturdays, nor on rainy days, nor on any festival days (including the Night Market).

So why bother with it?

The Specimen Exchange Program!

Inside, there is a shop with a random selection of items, just like the traveling merchant in the forest. These items are refreshed every day the shop is open, and all cost the exact same thing - Coral x5. The idea is that the player is helping them conduct their research. From a gameplay perspective, this is another way to collect random items needed for the community center, and, if you're lucky, a way to get an expensive item for cheap!

The NPCs
This mod introduces two and a half NPCs. The "half" NPC appears during Koda's 14-heart event, and during the mystery NPC's 6 and 10-heart events.

Koda Kainoa

Koda is an independent and self-disciplined FIASA agent. She will be quite standoffish when you first meet, but she's under a lot of stress at work. Try to cut her some slack! Getting to know Koda will slowly endear her to Pelican Town, and reveal the more laid-back parts of her personality. Whether you choose to romance her or not, she will ultimately decide to stay in Stardew Valley at the end of her heart events. She appreciates direct honesty more than flowery words!

Show
The second NPC is unlocked once you have reached Koda's 8-heart event.
After that, the NPC will join Koda on the FIASA boat, and take over most shopkeeper duties. This NPC is not romanceable, but he is a strong character
. He needs some help with work burnout and being a good supervisor.

There are two versions of this mod.

ONLY DOWNLOAD ONE VERSION

- In the (Romance) version, Koda is a marriage candidate and has extra cutscenes for her 10-heart and 14-heart events.
These scenes are a little silly and not necessary for her character growth, so be assured that you are not missing any major writing by choosing the other version. Keep in mind that this is a difficult romance, as Koda is not in town all the time (plus friendship decay as mentioned below).

- In the (Platonic) version, Koda's story is condensed into 10-hearts, and has adjusted dialogue to mirror your friendship.

Either way, Koda is meant to be played long-term and into the late game.
Her 10-heart event will not trigger unless the Community Center is complete. Her 14-heart event will not trigger unless the farmhouse on Ginger Island is restored.

A note on friendship decay:

Koda, and the later NPCs, are not available during Spring and Fall. This means that they experience friendship decay over those seasons, no matter what. The vanilla rate is -2 points per day, which means that youwill lose -56 points over each of those absent seasons. This is minimal, as one loved gift adds +80 points. But it is worth keeping in mind if they return for a season and you find you've lost a heart point.

Koda is 24 at the youngest, and 28 at the oldest. She is a serious person with multiple degrees who plans things out way in advance, and struggles to adjust when the plan changes. Although she can be a bit strict with herself and others, she has an underpinning of romantic ennui when she relaxes. She loves the ocean, she's prone to nostalgia, and she's an explorer at heart. At this point, she's used to the grit and sway of life at sea, and her fashion sense reflects accordingly. You, the farmer, serve as Koda's entry-point to the community. There are a few friendly faces that she will mention as she gets to know the town, but she doesn't attend every festival, and will only go to the theater once you're married. She is a highly independent person who will work from home once you're married, often foraying out to the FIASA boat for "office days." You can have kids, and she has a unique spouse room.

- Requires Content Patcher.
- This mod is fully compatible with SVE, RSV, VMV, East Scarp, and Sunberry Village.
- Mods that add additional weather impact this mod by reducing the number of sunny days - which adds extra challenge to befriending the NPCs.
- This mod iscompatible with Beach Additional Storage Space Area
- Now 100% compatible with Beach Extension for Crab Pod, after the latest update
- There are no conflict with other mods that add boats, such as My Submarine and Fishing Trawler

Credits:
- The SDV modding Discord helped me a lot with this mod! They are an awesome community!
- There is one asset from (AT) Chest Deco by guxelbit that was used in the spouse room for Koda.

Recommended Mods:
-  I consider this cover of Moonlight Jellies to be Koda's unofficial theme song: Moonlight Jellies Guitar Replacement
- Maps are a big part of the story, so I can't not recommend: Remapping - Minimap Project
- I think PlatinumCats' furniture mods, here and here, really match Koda's spouse room.

Extra Compat:
- If you have Eli and Dylan for East Scarp, the FIASA NPCs will comment on the new unique coral items. They will also react to Dylan's heart events.
- If you have SVE installed, the FIASA NPCs will comment on new beach objects. They will also comment on Lance's late heart events in Fable Reef.

- If you have the Fishmonger installed, FIASA NPCs will react to heart events.

- If you have my other mod, Ranger Taro, than they will make small comments about each other.
- If you want to raise the little turtles that appear in this mod, complete the Canyons mini-expansion

The FIASA boat schedule is limited - Koda will only be available to talk to when the boat is in harbor.

Koda will greet you at the farmhouse for an event. Choose where you want to go - um, this is a weird event. I don't know what I was thinking, but either option will lead to Koda singing the lyrics from a Talking Heads song. If the Community Center is complete, you will receive a letter in the mail the next day. Enter the Community Center between 8am and 6pm after reading the letter.

Go to the Bus Stop to run into Koda. If the Ginger Island farmhouse is restored, encounter her a second time at the Beach. After this, there is a 50% chance that she will show up at the Ginger Island farmhouse over the next few days.

For the other NPC, there is a 2-heart, 6-heart, and 10-heart event. At 4 and 8 hearts, he will send you a solar panel in the mail.

2-Heart:
Spoiler:
Show
Enter the FIASA boat.

6-Heart:
Spoiler:
Show
Find a letter in the mail. Afterwards, enter the FIASA boat.

10-Heart:
Spoiler:
Show
Enter the FIASA boat between 8am and 6pm.

- On Winter 12, Friday, there is a small visual bug with Squidfest at the
beach. One fisherman appears to have a bobber in the roof of the FIASA
boat. The only good solve for this involves removing the boat during
Squidfest, which felt unfairly restrictive since it is also gone for the
Night Market. Please forgive this bug!

- Occasionally, Koda's spouse room empties out and becomes a blank closet. I will fix this
eventually, but I'm not sure what causes this visual error. It is always
fixed the next time you reload the save.

- If SMAPI is giving you a yellow text area about routing to the Beach, that is because you
have not yet repaired to wooden bridge to the tide pools.

FAQs:

Can I install this on an existing save?
Yes! It is expected that this will be the case.

Can I install this on a new save?

Yes! You will encounter the FIASA boat on Summer 1.

Can I switch between (Romance) and (Platonic) partway through?
I do not recommend this.
However, if you have changed your mind about Koda in either direction, I recommend deleting the folder, booting up SMAPI so that it deletes all the old version data, closing the game, and then reinstalling the version you want.
This will likely reset your friendship progress. I haven't directly playtested this!

Final To-Dos
Hopefully, very little! I aimed to release this mod in as complete a state as possible. Therefore:

- Fix spouse room glitch
- small pixel art cleanup
- add a final final event
- add more depth to Koda's marriage schedule
- address any conflicts or bugs as they come up for users

Thank you everyone!! Have fun!
