It seems that simply adding mods in version 1.6 does not reflect the changes. However, I was able to make modifications using the following method, although it is at my own risk. Since I'm using a Mac, I'm not sure if this method will be applicable for Windows users. I replaced the xnb files for each character located in StardewValley/Contents/Resources/Content/Portraits/ with the xnb files for each character from Mods/Baechu's Portrait/. However, I didn't move the optional_portrait directory to StardewValley/Contents/Resources/Content/Portraits/. Let's wait for the changes to be reflected in the game officially!
i did that too on my windows and its work! thank you!! the sad thing is only some of them can change the portraits thats has xnb file, the other cant :'(
