      you have to edit the npc reactions section in the json. check the readme, down towards the end—the two sections “specific npc reactions” and “default reaction numbers”—there’s a longer explanation there for why the reactions are different for different npcs and how to make sure you’re matching up the face you want to make to the face the npcs are making (:

      if you’ve gone through that section and edited your reaction numbers accordingly and you’re still not getting what you expect, you can send me a DM and i can walk you through what you’ve missed.

    Hi! I was just wondering, would you consider adding a Winter Inside and Winter Outside portraits feature? If not, that's ok! Thanks for making this mod.

      maybe! kind of depends on whether or not i can do it in the same (very very simple) way i've got the rest of the toggles set up. i'll have to look into it.

    Hello, could someone who's used this mod please tell me what emotion the xtra portrait should be?

      it can be anything you’d like. as per the docs:

      >PORTRAIT_XTRA is a placeholder; by default it is not used in any reactions and is simply there to show that you can add more emotions beyond the initial neutral face + 5 reacts. you can either ignore these, delete them, or read on to see how to use them

      the readme and the documentation inside the mod code itself explains how to use the placeholders. if you don’t understand how to use them or don’t want to learn, you can just ignore them, they’re not used unless you specifically make the effort to use them—they’re just there to demonstrate how you can add more slots.

    Hi, this mod is amazing! The seasonal portraits work perfectly fine, but for some reason the festival portraits don't seem to load even when they're enabled. Any ideas why? Thanks!

      Can you share your SMAPI log?

      Is it all festivals, or just some of them? Someone else had a similar problem in the past and it turned out to be another mod conflicting—do you have any older portrait content patcher packs installed that you may have used before you tried this one?

      Sure, here it is: https://smapi.io/log/87371a6a7a2f4a14b169f4ba97755a7d

      So far all festivals use the seasonal clothes instead of their respective outfits. As for the farmer portraits, I only use this mod, for the rest of the NPCs I use Portraiture and Portraiture+.

      Altough I found a kind of "temporary fix" in case someone else needs it, replacing the portraits in the Assets folder with the festival outfit and once there, disabling the seasonal outfit with Generic Mod config menu, that way it loads the festival outfit, but it can be a bit annoying to have to exit the game and replace the portraits at each festival, especially if you have a lot of mods. Thanks for answering!

      Okay… interestingly there is a similarity with the other person who had issues getting festivals to work. I think maybe some translation mods out there are changing the names of festivals internally—they had a Chinese translation mod installed that was blocking Farmer Portraits’ ability to check the current festival day, and I’m seeing that you have a number of Spanish translation mods loaded. I would be interested to see if you could temporarily take out your translation mods (or even take them out one at a time) and see if you can trigger a change in festival portraits without those in?

      if that is the case I’ll have to see if there’s anything to be done about that but i’d have to confer with mistyspring. if the original content packs they made have the same problem, i’m not sure there’s a way to get around it.

      Yeah, it seems it was a translation issue. I tried the "Luau" event and the portraits loaded this time, and since that event has the same name in both languages, the mod loaded correctly. I changed the folders to their respective Spanish names and they all worked fine, so Thank you!

      Great! glad we got it figured out. i’ll add a note to the docs to make sure people who use translation mods are aware of the issue.

    I like the mod but Smapi said:
    [Content Patcher] Two content packs want to load the 'aedenthorn.FarmerPortraits/portrait' asset with the 'Exclusive' priority ((CP) Farmer Portrait and Farmer Portraits - Seasonal Emotional Festivals). Neither will be applied. You should remove one of the content packs, or ask the authors about compatibility.
    What did i do wrong?

      you can only have one content pack installed for Farmer Portraits at a time. right now you have mine installed and also one labelled “(CP) Farmer Portrait”, you have to decide which one you want to use.

      from what it’s worth, if that’s one of the default templates from the main Farmer Portraits From 1.6, you don’t need it. you only need the actual main mod itself from that page—none of the optional downloads. otherwise if it’s somebody else’s portrait template, like i said, it’s them or me you can’t have us both 😅

    Hi there! First of all thank you so much for this mod and your excellent instructions on how to successfully set it up. I've successfully set up my portraits for all the seasons festivals and emotions and it's already adding so much extra charm to the game experience. My question involves the process of adding additional portraits for a specific marriageable NPC during a specific situation. I have a mod installed from someone that adds a "pillow-talk and morning after" cutscene with the NPC to several days. I would like to add a custom portrait for those specific instances but I'm not sure exactly how to go about that. As it is right now, the NPC is blushing during these cutscenes so my farmer portrait is correctly defaulting to the blushing farmer portrait for the corresponding season, but I am wondering if it's possible to add a unique portrait for these specific cutscenes because I still would like my farmer to have the default blushing reaction to any other blushing interactions with the NPC.  I'd really appreciate any advice you are able to give.

      hi! is it possible—yes. is it possible For You—well, it depends. depending on how experienced you are with reading other peoples’ code and writing your own Content Patcher code, it could range from very easy (you are an expert) to virtually impossible (you are starting from zero and would need to be guided through the whole process)

      the somewhat longer answer is that you would have to a) look at that other mod and try to determine how it’s deciding/demarcating which days are “special cutscene days”, b) include that mod as a dependency to this one, c) create a token that keeps track of that day, and d) create essentially a new conditional under “festivals” in my mod such that it’s checking whether or not any given day is a special cutscene day. i give you full permission to mess around with my mod and see if you can do that, but i won’t be able to do it for you or help you if it breaks something. this page will teach you more about referencing other mods’ tokens, but unless you’re going to teach yourself Content Patcher syntax (or know some already) it might not make much sense to you!

      Thanks so much for the reply! I was fairly sure the answer would be something along those lines. While I'm very sure I've found the part of the other mod's code that triggers the events, and it very much looks like a festival of sorts, I definitely would need to teach myself a lot more about modding before I would feel at all confident messing around with it to the extent that you've described. As is- your mod is absolutely fantastic and I'm very grateful for it.

    (I use a translator)
    Good evening, please tell me if it is possible to make the portrait change inside and outside? I want the character to be indoors without outerwear, and on the contrary, to be dressed in warm clothes outside. I don't understand mods and I want to ask if the commands from another mod will work if I enter them into the content? Something like
    },
    "Dry Lightning Fall Indoor": {
    "Default": "Dry Lightning Fall Indoor",
    "Section": "Weather Wonders Indoor Outfits",
    "Description": "The outfit you wear when the downpours hit"
    },

    Так же хочу сказать спасибо вашему моду, он принес мне честно говоря несказанное удовольствие пока я с ним играла и рисовала свои портреты ^^

      Спасибо, вы очень добры (:

      К сожалению, этот метод не сработает. Мой мод прост, я старался не добавлять слишком много переменных. Вы не можете просто вырезать и вставить код из другого мода, это ничего не даст.

      Пожалуйста, используйте этот мод, если вы хотите иметь больше возможностей, например, одежду для конкретной погоды:

    Hi there, when I start the game, my SMAPI log has this at the bottom:

    [Content Patcher] Patch error: Farmer Portraits - Seasonal Emotional Festivals > Load aedenthorn.FarmerPortraits/portrait1 has a FromFile which matches non-existent file 'assets\portrait_happy.png'.
    [Content Patcher] Patch error: Farmer Portraits - Seasonal Emotional Festivals > Load aedenthorn.FarmerPortraits/portrait2 has a FromFile which matches non-existent file 'assets\portrait_sad.png'.
    [Content Patcher] Patch error: Farmer Portraits - Seasonal Emotional Festivals > Load aedenthorn.FarmerPortraits/portrait3 has a FromFile which matches non-existent file 'assets\portrait_angry.png'.
    [Content Patcher] Patch error: Farmer Portraits - Seasonal Emotional Festivals > Load aedenthorn.FarmerPortraits/portrait4 has a FromFile which matches non-existent file 'assets\portrait_blush.png'.
    [Content Patcher] Patch error: Farmer Portraits - Seasonal Emotional Festivals > Load aedenthorn.FarmerPortraits/portrait5 has a FromFile which matches non-existent file 'assets\portrait_unique.png'.

    I have deleted all of the placeholder photos and I'm not using emotions yet, just simple portraits. Also, I can only get a portrait to load if I leave one PNG file in the main Assets folder. If I delete that, hoping that it will instead use the portrait from the Spring folder, then all I get is the pixelated default picture instead of the ones I have created. This leads me to believe that the game will only ever pull the portrait in the Assets folder, it won't ever use the ones in the Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter and various Festivals folders. How do I get it to pull those instead of just the one in the Assets folder?

      You need to have portraits in the Assets folder. Those are the default files, they get loaded first and then *replaced* as necessary with the ones within the seasons and festivals folders. This is how the original Farmer Portraits mod works, and my addon as well. So yes, you need to leave portraits there—it doesn’t really matter what set you choose because they don’t get shown in game, you can just put copies of your Spring ones there if you like. Rest assured that the mod will pull from the seasons and events when it needs to.

      (you’ll still get smapi errors if you’ve decided to remove all emotions — it wasn’t designed for those to be “optional” as there are already content packs on the main mod’s page that just do seasons+festivals and the entire point of this one is to add emotions lmao—but those errors will be harmless.)

      best practice for installing and using mods in general: don’t delete things unless you know what they’re for! it’s very rarely safe to assume “oh, the mod won’t need these” unless you know what you’re doing.

      oh, OK, I thought the instructions said to delete all the placeholders. I didn't realize we HAD to include emotions. When you say the main mod just does seasonal/festival portraits, do you mean mistyspring's 1.6 portrait mod?

      Thank you for the answer about leaving a portrait in the Assets folder, I didn't realize we had to do that. The instructions just make it sound like you only need to replace the placeholders in the various folders and then you're all set.

      Yes, the Farmer Portraits for 1.6 has its own templates you can use. If you scroll down on the Files page of mistyspring’s mod to the optional downloads section, there are content packs just like this one that all do smaller subsets of things. IIRC there’s one that does just seasons and festivals that should suit you. Or, like i said, you *can* use mine without emotions, but SMAPI will complain. Either way will get you what you want to achieve, but if you’re never going to use reactions you might as well not bother, eh?

      You’re right, though, it does say “replace” in the instructions and in the docs—which is a deliberate word choice. If you had only *replaced* the portraits in the folders and not *deleted* anything else you would have been golden. 👍

      so, in the readme, under “customizing” you see where it says “replace all of the goofy little placeholder pictures with your own portraits, making sure the names are the same”

      that’s literally all there is to it

      systematically go through all the folders in the mod, dumping your portrait files into each appropriate folder, and rename them to match the schema used by the placeholders (“portrait_happy.png”, “portrait_sad.png”, etc etc)

      when you’re done and you look through the mod files, all the funny baseball hat guys should be gone, and your portraits are there taking their place. complete 👍

      and just to repeat what i told someone earlier: your download history doesn’t show that you’ve downloaded the required main mod, Farmer Portraits For 1.6 so please do make sure you have that installed and working correctly before you install my addon
