I both love and hate this. lol Clever, and a really great option for those who might want to rp out exactly the scenarios you described. I'm surprised it took so long for something like this to pop up, and having it be Joja is perfect.
I too was boggled to find it wasn't already done; I suppose it's because a good portion of modded-players don't mind cheat-codes at all and a good few don't care a whit about game balance.
You said "love and hate" - I think I get the "love" part, what's the "hate" part then?
This is so clever! I'm curious what happens if you don't pay off your loan when you're supposed to? Do you get put in Stardew Jail? Does Joja garnish your wages? Do you start getting threatening collection phone calls every day? XD;
Also, out of curiosity, is there any benefit to paying off the loan early? (I'm not expecting that there is, I'm just curious). Does the player end up playing more if they take the 3 year plan?
Ahaha, sorry, I'm an accountant in another life, so I looked at this mod and immediately got curious about it.
Thank you so much for your mods that make the game more immersive while still allowing for quality of life. I can tell you put a lot of thought into game balance and a lot of work into these. They're clever and impressive and most importantly, fun!
This mod was a great idea for me, as I wanted to get the furniture catalog as soon as possible, but didn't want to cheat and get it for free! I think it's very fitting that Joja shows up in this one🤣
Hi, thanks for trying the mod and sorry you're having trouble! The event's trigger conditions are:
1. You're on the farm and it's between 6am-9:30am (one of those first-time-you-walk-out-the-door things) 2. It's Monday or Tuesday 3. The weather is sunny
Other than that, I don't know what would cause it. The event-checking code in SDV doesn't emit any diagnostics, so the log doesn't help.
Does anything else in the mod work? You can check by cheating in a phone (`debug fin phone`) and seeing if there's a "Joja Financial" menu entry.
false alarm tbh, ive read the mod, it says "late in the first week", the event did eventually happen, tho in thursday, so im glad,, its just that on my other save the event triggered first day of the game so i panicked when it didnt work on my new save xDD sry :p
That's an interesting idea. As a player, I care a lot about game balance, and it seemed to me to be a sort of accident of the game's development history that the furniture catalog was out of reach of players for several seasons. The thing is that the furniture catalog is purely a vanity item and having it early gives you no kind of advantage. If you could just get a flat loan for 230k right at the start of the game, that would be totally game-breaking.
If you ask me, the stock return scepter is significantly underpowered for the cost (e.g. it costs 2000 failed-to-return-home tickets!). With the old Warp Network mod (still dead in 1.6 AFAIK), it was worth the money. So it seems if you wanted to make a mod that did something with that scepter, it'd probably have to be in conjunction with a mod that makes it worth having. Other than that, I'd say we should have a mod that lowers the price to something more like 50k, in line with its actual usefulness, and not bother with loans.
Love this response! It is very thoughtful review. Our family is very contentious about whether we can find a scepter in the "couch" aka via player_add in SMAPI or if we must pay 2 million for it late game. It has no value late game, and all the value early game, if that makes sense. Agree that other mods that give it more powers give it more value.
This is actually both funny and kinda useful? It also fits in theme of a character that I started... That I kinda hate the name of? >.> And might wanna restart... With this...
