About this mod

Adds new colors to Chocobo Valley Livestock via content patcher

Changelogs

With this pack, you can further diversify the look of your chocobo flock! This texture pack in particular is themed around real world genetics. It adds white patterning for already existing colors, and brand new ones, including the ever popular albino mutation!

Once you've installed this mod, your chocobos will sometimes be born as one of the newly added variants. They do NOT replace the colors already existing in the Chocobo Valley - Livestock.

Compatible with Alternative Textures (but it is NOT required)! Having it installed allows you to change your chocobo's color by purchasing a pair of scissors from Robin, and interacting with your feathery friends with the scissors selected.

Below is further information/lore and previews for the variants added with this pack.
Pied and Piebald

Denoted by patches of unpigmented feathers and skin, pied/piebald patterns are found on almost any color of chocobo, and can present as symmetrical or asymmetrical. Pied patterns are often specifically bred by chocobo hobbyists, so they aren't particularly rare in domestic settings. The actual rarity of a pied chocobo matches the base feather color of the individual (e.g. a pied yellow chocobo is still common)

Axanthic

Chocobos are famously known for being xanthochromistic, with bright yellow plumage being their most common color. The opposite of this is known as axanthism, the total lack of yellow pigment, which does sometimes occur. The most noticeable example of this actually happens when a green chocobo is born without yellow pigment, resulting in brilliantly blue feathers instead.

All axanthic variants are considered uncommon

Erythristic

Although sometimes mistaken as red at a glance, these chocobos are actually brown with a ruddy tint. Similarly, their temperament seems to be halfway between the typical chocobo's and that of a fiery red one. The result is a spirited, yet still manageable steed, who isn't afraid to carry a rider into battle.

Isabelline

This is a type of leucism caused by the uniform reduction of melanin in the feathers, resulting in a very soft, cream-brown color. Chocobos with this plumage have a reputation for being particularly even-natured, though outliers exist. They're a popular choice for beginner riders.

Melanistic

Very rarely a chocobo is born with hyperpigmentation, resulting in completely black feathers, beaks, and skin. Even its organs may be either black or grey. It is often thought that the blacker a chocobo is, the better its flight capabilities. This, and due to the rarity of black colors in general, make melanistic chocobos especially sought after.

Albinistic

Chocobos with primarily white feathers are fairly rare as-is, but a truly albino bird is much more so, and only occurs when one is born lacking the ability to produce melanin at all. Albinism is most easily differentiated by a white or pinkish beak, legs, and pink or red eyes in addition to completely colorless feathers. They are unfortunately difficult to breed, since feather coloration plays a big role in chocobo courtship, and their good sense of smell makes using paints or dyes an unviable workaround.

All albinistic variants are considered rare (and have a very low chance of spawning naturally)

I don't mind if you use my coding here as a template to create your own color add-on packs for Chocobo Valley - Livestock! However, I probably won't be available to help with questions very often. I've also included an Alternative Textures version for the sole purpose of being an example for how to make an AT pack for chocobos, or other custom animals.

  • More white marking varieties such as smaller freckle-like spots, or the opposite (mostly white with colored spots)
  • Tri-color markings (white and black spots over a base color)
  • Maybe markings based on specific real world birds (cockatiels, lovebirds, cardinals/bluejays, etc), but I might just make a separate AT pack for those instead.
  • Feel free to give suggestions in the comments, if there's anything in particular you'd like to see in future updates!

If you enjoy my mods and would like to leave a tip, that would mean a lot to me (please don't feel obligated, though!)
