Fiance isn't traditionally gender neutral (fiance is the masculine, fiancee is the feminine), even though some people do use it in a gender neutral way.
Fiance has a specific meaning of someone who's between proposal and marriage, which doesn't leave any space for players who don't want to marry the characters they date.
Partner is my personal preference, so that's what I chose :P It's a perfectly fine term for someone you're dating.
If multiple people request a specific gender neutral term that isn't "partner", I'll add it as a config option :]

What about fiance? I think it's a bit more romantical, than partner. Is that gender-neutral?
