This was actually a remake my first mod from a really long time ago, back on the chucklefish forums. I'm so glad to get it out to you guys again for Stardew Valley 1.6, with improved visuals and new color options!
- Install the latest version of SMAPI
- Download and extract the latest version of Content Patcher into your \Stardew Valley\Mods folder
- Extract the [CP] Chocobo Valley Mounts .zip into your \Stardew Valley\Mods folder
- Run the game through SMAPI. Once in the game, open your settings menu and scroll to the bottom where it says mod options. Click that, locate [CP] Chocobo Valley Mounts, and simply select the color you prefer! You can also choose to disable item and description changes for the horse flute and/or horse book here.
For the Content Patcher version, without using Generic Mod Config Menu:
- Install the latest version of SMAPI
- Download and extract the latest version of Content Patcher into your \Stardew Valley\Mods folder
- Extract the [CP] Chocobo Valley Mounts .zip into your \Stardew Valley\Mods folder
- Run the game through SMAPI once, then close the game, this will generate a config file in your [CP] Chocobo Valley Mounts mod folder. Open that with notepad, and replace 'EorzeanHoney' with any of the available color names (be sure to use the exact names used in the image files, including the lack of spacing i.g. EorzeanSugar, EorzeanRose, etc.) You can also choose to disable item and description changes for the horse flute and/or horse book here.
- Run the game through SMAPI again, and your config changes should be applied!
For the optional Alternative Textures version/add-on (NOTE: the AT and CP version of CV Mounts can be used together or separately, either way works fine. However, horse flutes won't be changed into chocobo whistles (same goes for the horse books) unless you have the CP version installed):
- Install the latest version of SMAPI
- Download and extract the latest version of Alternative Textures into your \Stardew Valley\Mods folder
- Extract the [AT] Chocobo Valley Mounts .zip into your \Stardew Valley\Mods folder
- Run the game through SMAPI. Once in the game you can purchase the scissors tool from Robin's shop, which you can then use on your horse and select any chocobo texture you want to use!
This mod will conflict with any other mod that edits the horse sprites (unless one or both are Alternative Textures mods). It will also conflict with mods that edit the horse whistle (and/or horse book) item texture and/or description. Also, since hats have not been altered, they might look strange when worn by your chocobo. Yes, the horse book title and description are unchanged at this time, that is not a bug, I've just had some trouble figuring out how to edit those fields.
Other than that, it should be compatible with most other mods that play well with Content Patcher and/or Alternative Textures.
Compatible with Horse Overhaul! I recommend disabling horse sounds in the HO config for the sake of immersion. If you have my other mod (Chocobo Valley Custom livestock) installed, you can feed the custom crops from it (gysahl, krakka, curiel, etc) to your chocobo, and it should count as a liked food.

- Toggleable bridles/saddles/saddlebags
- Maybe other toggleable accessories, such as the bardings from FFXIV (albeit very simplified)
- I am considering making the other chocobo breeds from my Chocobo Valley mod series rideable as well, but it will take considerably more work to set those up, so it might not be for a while. Feel free to comment which breed you want to see next the most!
