Here's a list of everything you need to know in short, digestible bullet points:
  • Four new breeds of chickens that can be bought from Marnie's shop after fulfilling certain conditions: Kinder, Sweet, Tranquil and Hardy Chickens.
  • Each type of chicken has its own colored mystery egg associated with it.
  • You can take these eggs to Clint to get them cracked open like geodes. They'll reveal a great variety of items – some more valuable, others less so. Feeling lucky?
  • Four custom letters and an incredible one (1) line of custom gift dialogue.

That's the very short version. Want to know more? Then just click the following spoiler for details about how to unlock the different chickens and what their eggs can contain.

General information

  • All of the new chicken breeds can only be bought from Marnie's shop and cannot be hatched. After all, you never know what's actually inside their eggs!
  • All eggs count for perfection and consequently need to be shipped once.
  • However, they cannot be used for cooking or making mayonnaise.
  • You have to unlock Kinder Chickens before you can unlock the other three breeds.
  • All eggs have at least three different "loot tables" with different drop chances and objects. If you get lucky, you just might get your hands on some rare high quality items. However, there's always a small chance of that cracking an egg results in making less money than outright selling it – no risk, no reward!
  • As you collect more eggs from your chickens, you'll have a chance of obtaining either more or higher quality items, depending on the Progression Mode config. Once this "chance" is maxed, you'll be able to obtain up to five or iridium quality items, respectively.
Kinder Chickens are the first breed you unlock by demonstrating you're a responsible chicken owner. Once you've collected a certain number of eggs from your own chickens, you'll receive a letter from Marnie to let you know you can buy them. This number depends on two factors: Your chosen farm type and the Fast Forward config. By default, you'll need a total of 50 eggs. If you're playing on 1.6's new Meadowlands Farm, however, you'll need 65 eggs instead. Want to unlock them faster? Not a problem! Just set the Fast Forward config to true and you'll only need to collect one egg.

As they are the "generalist" breed, their eggs are less specialized than the other ones' and can contain items from all of their drop pools. Additionally, there is a specific pool of "toys" they can drop that includes, for example, the doll artifacts.

Sweet Chickens are very interested in food – consequently, you can buy them once you've cooked at least 25 items. It doesn't matter if you're using your own kitchen or a cookout kit, so if you want to unlock them a little earlier than usual, consider this a tip.

As you've probably guessed, their eggs contain a variety of different food items. Yum!

Tranquil Chickens are... green. Yeah, I've got nothing here. To be able to buy them, you need to max out your farming level first.

Whatever might eggs of farming chickens contain? Well, I probably don't need to spell it out, but you can find all sorts of crops and forage items in there!

Hardy Chickens might try eating rocks every once in a while, but they're somehow great at finding gems and other valuable minerals. You'll be able to buy them once you've conquered the dangerous depths... in other words, once you've reached the bottom of the mines.

Their eggs contain the aforementioned gems and minerals and even though they can't drop all of them, they have another unique little characteristic: Just like actual geodes, they have a tiny chance to drop prismatic shards!

This mod has two configuration options. Incredible number, huh? To change them, I heavily recommend using GMCM, so please go download that if you haven't!
  • The first config is called Fast Forward. As the name already implies, enabling this will make unlocking the first special chicken breed much faster. You'll still have to put in some work for the other three, though! For details, check the spoiler above.
  • The second one is called Progression Mode and determines how the items dropped from these new eggs will improve over time – either in quality or in quantity. For more details... you know the drill. Click the spoiler above, last bullet point.

  • Make sure you've got the prerequisite mods installed: Content Patcher and Esca's Modding Plugins.
  • Download this mod from the Files tab or by clicking one of the download buttons.
  • Unzip the folder you just downloaded into your mod folder.
  • ???
  • Profit.

As usual, a huge thank you to all the friends I made on the Stardew Discord server. You're all amazing and I wouldn't be where I am today if I hadn't met you.

This time, however, extra special thanks to my three beta testers who helped out with a lot of feedback and critical questions like "Are they supposed to work in the mayo machine?" which... nope, they weren't! Thus, a round of applause for Logo, Riot and Quill, please!
