READ HERE -- TRY THESE IF PORTRAITURE ISN'T WORKING
Make sure you download the Portraiture under the 'Optional Files'
Make sure your file path is like this: "steamapps\common\Stardew Valley\Mods\Portraiture\Portraits\Candicorn_Alex\Alex.png"
If you downloaded with vortex go into all the folders with the pictures and delete the vortex file leaving ONLY the png files.
Make sure you're pressing 'P' when in dialog with the character and keep pressing it until the portrait shows up, press 'O' to fix it to that one
IF NONE OF THESE WORK, check the Portraiture mod page, I have NO control over it!
FAQ
Will you be doing all NPCs?
I'm going to try to do all Vanilla and SVE NPCs, Ridgeville is a big maybe
Will you be doing their Winter/Beach portraits?
Yes! Eventually.
I don't like how you drew -insert thing- for -character-, can you change it to -thing-?
No.
"I'm not going to use these until all the portraits are done."
That's fine, you don't have to tell me. I'm going to be releasing them bit by bit as I make them, and comments like this won't make me make them faster. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I love all your portraits so much! Thank you for giving them real human complexions instead of ghostly white skin. 10 out of 10, will download every portrait you make :)
Hello, beautiful work! I'm struggling to get it to work via Vortex. When I launch the game through Vortex I get the message in SMAPI
" These mods could not be added to your game. - Candicorn Alex because it's an empty Vortex folder (is the mod disabled in Vortex?)."
There is a line in SMAPI saying that for each file it looks like. When I open the files there are just the pictures, no png or ability to extract. I'm positive I'm doing something wrong, maybe something to do with the 'optional' download you mentioned? Any help would be appreciated, I would love to see your art in the game!
Ok I will try that thank you! One more quick question, would you suggest manually downloading them and extracting them to the folder that Vortex usually automatically sends it to or should I put them into Portraiture since I have that running via Vortex?
All this mod is is pictures, you have to put those picture folders in the Portraiture mod folder.
Honestly, you're probably better off manually downloading them and putting them in the mod folder yourself as apparently Vortex acts funky with these for some reason.

I have Portraiture, SMAPI, and content patcher installed but it states that the folders are empty. Is there something I am missing? I can't get the mod to work
EDIT: OK now that I've had a cup of coffee. I fixed it. If you downloaded with vortex go into all the folders with the pictures and delete the vortex file leaving ONLY the png files. Do everything CandiCornArt said to do, but just get rid of the vortex thing in the individual files. Hope this helps. Edit 2: If you already did this, don't forget to hit 'P" while talking to one of these guys to get the new portrait. Yeah I double-checked and re-dowloaded just in case.
When I download it via Vortex I only get the pictures, no png or way to extract further. It just shows up as "folder empty" when I run the game through Vortex for this mod. I'm not sure if that is what you were seeing before or if you have any advice

I put the Portraiture file in my SDV mods folder, I go into the portraits folder and create a new folder for the images, manually drag those images into the new folder, and when I go into the game, it doesn't work. I've tried dragging the whole folder into the Portraits folder, the individual images, and nothing seems to be working.
Does anyone have an idiot proof step-by-step direction on how to do this? Is it possible I downloaded the actual Portraiture mod wrong in the first place?

Also this from my pinned comment-

When I open the folders with the pictures they are the only things there, no png or Vortex file
