Hi everyone! I wanted to make a comment to clear up how to use my new dog and cat mods. Unlike my old pet mods, these do not replace the default pet textures. Mild spoilers on how to change your existing pets, as it involves new features to 1.6:

    Spoiler:

Unfortunately, it seems that CA removed the mechanic of changing your pet's appearance at the Wizard's Shrine of Illusion. If you don't start a new save with the pet breed you want, now it looks like you have to adopt a new one with the appearance you want from Marnie. Once you've maxed hearts with your existing pet, you can adopt additional pets if you buy the new pet bowl structures from Robin (for 50 hardwood each), or you can buy the Butterfly Powder item from Krobus (for 20,000g) to remove your pet and adopt a new one. Adopting a pet is 40,000g. If someone finds a new way to change existing pets' appearances, let me know!

You can also of course use the command "debug cmenu" (without quotes) in the SMAPI console to bring up the character creation menu. This will at least allow you to change your existing pet immediately.

I am getting lots of comments on all my mods since the 1.6 update, so from now on the way I respond to them is changing. If you report bugs in the bug section or ask for help in the comments without providing your SMAPI log, your report/comment is likely to be ignored or deleted. Your logs contain important info that modders need to be able to help you, and it only takes extra time from both of our lives if I have to ask for it. I also highly recommend making sure you read the instructions in the description thoroughly before asking for help. Thanks!

Hi! First of all, great work as always. I was wondering, if it'd be possible for you to add a yorkie (yorkshire terrier) option to the mod?

Hi! I used to use the "new dogs" and "new cats" mods but switched to these because they seemed... well cuter!

I am having an issue with the mod showing up on my game. I selected the last dog when starting a new game, and the breed does not change to any in the config. How do I assign dogs 1-5 and cats 1-5 with this mod like we can assign 1-3 in the "new dogs" and "new cats" mods? In my config, I just get a list of dog breeds (and cat breeds for the cats mod). Please help!

    Thank you!

This mod does not work the same way as my older dog and cat mods. It does not replace the vanilla sprites and you cannot change existing dogs with the config. Please read the instructions in the description or in the stickied comment above.

just some ideas for future pet breeds if there's plans on adding any more:
    -english mastiff
    -chihuahua
    -turkish kangal
    -borzoi
    -bedlington terrier
    -golden doodle
i love this mod and i'd love to see these unique breeds added!

Hi! I made a comment a while ago about adding foxes as a dog sprite option, but now I'm learning to mod myself and want to give it a go! I was wondering if I could use some of your assets as style/animation references for the sprites that I ultimately make, because I love your style. (and I want a fox to match all of the adorable animals made by you in my game) The finished mod wouldn't contain any of your assets or files at all but may resemble your art style and have similar key animations, which I'd still credit you for. (As well as recommend your mods as great companions!)

Pretty please? If not I understand and will try to work off of vanilla sprites instead.

Noted. I wish you the best and will work off of vanilla sprites instead! I still might recommend your mod alongside it though, just because you deserve the attention! ;)

I have this mod before I started a new game. When creating my character I was able to pick the Husky breed. However, when Marnie came with the dog, it was the default Stardew Valley dog appearance.

Omg!!!! You added Westie... Thank you so much <3

This made my day... I must ask however, on the main post you say there's no known way to change existing pets... But then I found this here in the comments:
"You can also of course use the command "debug cmenu" (without quotes) in the SMAPI console to bring up the character creation menu. This will at least allow you to change your existing pet immediately."

Can I change my existing dog with this? Thank you <3

You're right, I should probably edit that bit into the main description as well instead of only having it in my stickied comment. Yes, it works to change your pet if it was the first one you got (from the Marnie cutscene), but you won't be able to change additional pets that way. You can use the other method or the scissors from Alternative Textures to change those.

Since this mod doesn't replace the vanilla textures, is it safe to use in multiplayer? What happens if I adopt one of the modded dogs when playing with someone who doesn't have the mod?

I haven't gotten as many crash reports for pets as I have for barn/coop animals, but to be safe everyone in multiplayer should have this mod with the same skins enabled.

I know this is a bit much to ask, but could you possibly add an actual Fluffy Golden retriever with floppy ears and long tail in the future?? All of the options are amazing but none of them actually look like a GR. ;w; ty for all your hard work <3

Sorry you're unhappy with how a particular breed looks, but I probably won't be changing any existing breeds. You're free to make edits yourself for personal use

I would love to know if it could be possible to get the cute little bandana that came on one of the new vanilla 1.6 dogs to apply to your cuter dogs mod in the future if you ever had the capacity 💓If not, no worries! Thank you for all your hard work on your mods they really add a lot to the game.

Sorry, with the way this mod works now I won't be able to add bandanas/collars since I can't add overlays to them :/
