You shouldn't do, there's no change to the original manifest (and none supplied at all in this download). I'm not sure what would cause a manifest error in this case, but I'm happy to do a little troubleshooting with you!
A couple of things: Prior to adding my patch, does MI function without error? Are you definitely replacing the correct folder? Are you using the current version of Mermaid Island and all of its prerequisites? Could you share a screenshot of the error you're getting, or a SMAPI log?
I unzipped your mod file and dropped the whole folder directly into the MI folder Here's the error im getting: ERRORSMAPISkipped mods
ERRORSMAPIThese mods could not be added to your game. ERRORSMAPI- [MNF] Mermaid Island\Mermaid Island\[CP] Island because it contains files, but none of them are manifest.json." Its proable something as simply as me goofing up the installation
No problem! It's good for me to understand the differences in folder setup between manual and managed, so I'm glad it happened now rather than 20 mods down the line! :P

Treat my "Mermaid Island" folder as "[MNF] Mermaid Island". I.e. drop my [CP] Island folder over your existing one within [MNF] Mermaid Island.
I'll upload a modified copy to account for this.
EDIT: New version uploaded. New downloaders will not have this problem.
