This mod is currently unmaintained. It IS updated for 1.6.
I've decided to step back from Stardew modding for the time being, due to general burnout, which I already felt during 1.5.6, and has only gotten worse with the 1.6 release. Who knows, maybe I'll come back to modding this game one day, but for now, it is what it is.
If you're interested in maintaining the mod (just updates, bugfixes, compatibility patches, but maybe new features too?), let me know via a NexusMods DM, or on the Stardew Valley Discord server, or a Discord DM (my handle is @shockah) - I plan on giving mod page edit access to anyone interested, and also switching all DP to the maintainer.
I didn't quite understand the proposal of this mod. Will the mod automatically translate other mods into the player's language? for example: My game is in Portuguese and I have a mod that is in English, will the mod translate English into Portuguese?
Mod authors: Project Fluent lets you easily handle various grammar rules of many different languages.
Translators: Project Fluent lets you create a new "content pack" which adds a new (or a replacement) translation for any other mod. Because it's a content pack, it's treated like any other mod, which means it's easy to install for players.
So the mod is pretty much useless for normal players, unless you have a mod that strictly requires it.
I took a fast glance. Is there a way to use this for dynamic content? Examples: "Give this to Sebastian / Demetrius / Maru" would be in Finnish "Anna tämä Sebastianille / Demetriukselle / Marulle".
As you see the ending cannot be just concatenated there -- Finnish is agglutinative, but it has a lot of quirks (and umpteen cases).
I've been translating SDV to Finnish (and made all my mods so they have a Finnish version) but formulating everything so that the NP names are always in nominative and objects referred in nominative singular produces sometimes clumsy stuff however I try to formulate the sentences. Being able to give e.g. Demetrius (nom), Demetriuksen (gen), Demetriukselle (dat) and to refer to those somehow would be a great help.
To say nothing about 1 ananas (pineapple) 2 ananasta (pineapples) etc...
Yep! See the documentation here: plurality, grammatical cases, and the official Mozilla's Project Fluent page. The problem though is that the localized mod has to use Project Fluent itself directly and provide the hints you'd need to create proper translations. I don't think there would be any other way those translations could be handled properly, unfortunately.
Yeah. I was thinking I should somehow give a list of forms and pointers to them, so I could point to a NPC or to a named item in something else than nominative. Typical example would be just those delivery quests.
Puuh... I could guess that is quite a job... (and I've worked as a computer linguist...)
I'm actually thinking about the possibility of declaring names in a translation-friendly way. A lot of translations just have a token placeholder for an NPC name or item name. I could in theory have a global set of those, utilizing Fluent translations, but which in turn could be used even in i18n translations. So instead of the mod providing plurality/gender/other hints, it could be the translation itself (as long as you as the translator are sure that this particular translation is only used in this specific way. Yeaaah. I think I know what i'm doing for 1.1.0 a future version!
