I like this idea, especially being able to arrive at festivals later. What all can you do with the config file? I'd love to be able to configure when I get home from each festival (if I miss out on a festival by not arriving in the early afternoon, it makes no sense that I'd show up home at bedtime). Also, does the config allow you to change the festival names, or turn specific changes on/off?
I knew the term "Luau" already, and "Festival of Ice" sounds better to me than the more generic "Winter Festival." Plus these:
1. The festival is all about the Egg Hunt not the celebration of Eggs so i changed the name.
Huh?
The celebration of eggs is a common festival worldwide, a way to highlight the return of life after a cold winter. And if you talk to the villagers at the festival, they talk about all the egg-related food there, and Shane talks about chickens (I think Marnie does too). It's more than just the egg hunt; that's just the main event that the kids (and a couple teens) are interested in.
2. Spirit's Eve > Spirit's Night Slight name change as a festival the night before something where nothing happens doesn't really make sense. So spirits are now celebrated that night instead.
This event is a direct reference to Halloween. The Catholic Church celebrates a holiday called "All Saints' Day" on November 1st, and Halloween is "All Hallows' Eve" or the night before that holiday; over time, that mutated into "Hallow-een," the term we know it by today. So that's why it's "Eve" rather than "Night." (And we rarely use the term "Eve" anymore, so it's nice to see it for an event.)
3. Feast of the Winterstar > Gifting Day The idea of the Winter Star is now set aside in favor of 'gifting' to your secret Santa precipitant. Winter Star dialog still exists, but the festival now mimics Christmas Day a bit more.
The focus on presents ("what did you get me?") is something we consciously try to push back against, bringing the focus back to family and community, to gratitude and humility and recognition of something outside ourselves, as another year comes to an end. And the main push behind the focus on presents? Corporations like JojaMart, who want us to spend spend spend. The materialism is very profit-motivated.
So those are the names I'd like to keep as their originals, if the config allowed it. Does it?
A luau is a beach party.. if you don't have a beach, then it's a beach themed party. I agree, the name change is unnecessary. I like the thought put into the hours for the festivals though.
