Hi! I always wanted my wizard to grow mushrooms on his person (aka, look more magical)... So I did it myself. If anyone is interested in my Even More Seasonal Wizard (Magically Changing with the Seasons), here's the visual mod I made for this mod (lol). Fair warning, the “no hat” version is substantially uglier since, well... What is a wizard without a hat? How I made it work:
Okay, let's go through it slowly. Portraits are easier, so let's start with them. Simply download all portraits from either “Hat” or “No Hat” folder (you have to pick either).
Find where you installed the game, and put them in Stardew.Valley/Mods/[CP] Moth's VFSP - BBR's Younger Wizard (SVE)/assets/Portraits/Magnus. Yes, swap the ones that are already there. Now you have the portraits working.
Now download the sprites (also pick one version). Put them in Stardew.Valley/Mods/[CP] Moth's VFSP - BBR's Younger Wizard (SVE)/assets/Sprites. Delete the original mod sprite.
If you picked the Hat version, delete “WizardTele”, and rename “WizardTeleHat” to “WizardTele” instead.
Now go back to [CP] Moth's VFSP - BBR's Younger Wizard (SVE) folder. Open the json file named “content” in the notebook app. Click ctrl + f and find "FromFile": "assets/Sprites/Magnus.png". Change it to "FromFile": "assets/Sprites/Magnus_{{Season}}.png". Save it and close.
I know it's confusing but to get the Hat version to work properly, you now have to disable the Wizard wearing a hat in the in-game mod settings.
There you go. It should work! If you messed something up, don't worry. You can always reinstall the mod. My advice – be careful when changing stuff in “content” - make sure you're not deleting anything, are changing the right line. The “” are supposed to be there! In other words – read everything out before changing it, and it should be fine.
Small note - this original mod also didn't work for me for some time, but remember to go around in mod settings in game and disable all other visual mods for the Wizard. Slightly Cuter has two separate settings you have to disable - for Vanilla Stardew Valley, and for Stardew Valley Extended under "Magnus", I'm pretty sure.
For people wondering why I didn't work with the premade “hat/no hat” setting – I just didn't think about it lmao. And unfortunately, with how I decorated the wizard now, making it a simple toggable would cause clipping issues on a few graphics, I believe.
If you're like me and was having SO much trouble with how to download this mod if you had the updated romanceable rasmodius that also contains SVE, let me tell you how I got this stupid thing to work.
1. If you have Seasonal Cuter Characters + Seasonal Cuter Characters SVE, it will OVERRIDE everything. Go into each mod folder and delete the photos (not the folder) from each Character and Portrait folders for the Wizard. The SVE Seasonal Cuter Characters has a Magnus that you will also need to delete the photos for. Path: Program Files x86 --> Steam --> Steamapps --> Common --> Stardew Valley --> mods --> [CP] Seasonal Cute Characters --> assets --> Characters (and Portraits) --> Wizard --> delete those photos except the _folder_managed_by_vortex. Similarly... Path starting from mods --> [CP] Seasonal Cute Characters SVE --> assets --> Characters (and Portraits) --> Magnus or Wizard --> delete those photos too. 2. Download this mod for Vanilla AND SVE (actually not sure if SVE is needed but I downloaded it just in case). The Romanceable Rasmodius version of this mod does not work with the updated one anymore (they don't have the same files) 3. Go into your Config (highly recommend Generic Config Menu) for the new Romanceable Rasmodius and change the number of portraits to 9. Go to the Sprite and select "vanilla."
adding to this to save anyone the frustration i had in trying to do this for the NON SVE version: for step 3, you have to disable both sprite and portrait entirely. idk why it's different for the non sve version, but that's what finally got it working for me x_x
Just want to say thank you so much for posting this-- I followed this exactly except for one thing (Made it 7 portraits instead of 9 in the RR config) and now everything works!! I downloaded both the vanilla and SVE versions too and I still get the all the SVE portraits, if anyone was debating whether to try this out! Also did this on macOS!
idk if the og post was for windows, but the way i had to do it for macos: Rather than deleting the photos you drag them into the "false" folder for both the portrait and character photos, download this style portrait for both vanilla and sve!! (truly have no idea why it didn't work in the og way for me, could be that mac is being silly, but in this way you can at least keep the photos if u ever decide to switch back to Seasonal Cute for the wizard ig :T)
(gonna use ur tutorial as a skeleton real quick, very smart of you to format it this way, tyyyy :D) Step 1- Vanilla:
Path 1: Stardew Valley --> Contents --> MacOS --> mods --> [CP] Seasonal Cute Characters --> assets --> Characters (and Portraits) --> Wizard (move each photo into False --> Random, leave empty folders as is)
Path 2 (In a separate finder tab): Stardew Valley --> Contents --> MacOS --> mods --> [CP] Seasonal Cute Characters --> assets --> False --> Random (will eventually get a pop-up about photos having the same name, select "keep both", drop each photo in)
Step 2 - SVE: Path 1: Stardew Valley --> Contents --> MacOS --> mods --> [CP] Seasonal Cute Characters SVE --> assets --> Characters (and Portraits) --> Magnus AND Wizard (must do both Magnus and Wizard folders wont work otherwise, move each photo into False --> map, leave empty folders as is)
Path 2 (In a separate finder tab): Stardew Valley --> Contents --> MacOS --> mods --> [CP] Seasonal Cute Characters SVE --> assets --> False --> Map (will eventually get a pop-up about photos having the same name, select "keep both", drop each photo in)
THEN DONE \o/ yipee it seems confusing when reading out the paths but its just dragging and dropping i swear its not too hard <3, good luck mac users o7
An important note: Sometimes the game tries to use SVE asset for wizard's portrait.
That's why Parrot (the RR SVE mod author) offered another solution to change SVE's wizard portrait if you had changed the seasonal assets to no avail. I found that this requires some extra steps to work:
1. Change SVE's wizard portrait as well as seasonal portraits.
2. Make sure the new png files all have the same size and dimension as the png files you replaced.
3. Regarding (2), the only way I found this to work was altering the 9-portrait style of this mod to follow Seasonal's and SVE's 7-portrait style. A bit of editing skill is required, make sure the expressions are in order.
4. Redo step (1) every time you update SVE or Seasonal mod.
It's high effort, but the result is functional portraits that are seasonal.
let me tell yall it was a TREAT trying to figure out how to get this to work with romanceable rasmodius. but i eventually figured it out! i downloaded the RomRas version of this mod for all this. this is all done on windows, not sure if it'd be different on mac.
as a comment below states, if you want him to be wearing a hat, you have to edit it yourself. if you don't want the hat feel free to ignore this step. i thought the hat was adorable so i did edit it. you can probably use any free photoshop website, but i used pixlr. all you have to do is start with the faces and then insert the hat image on top. no need to adjust the positioning. (i'm not sure how perms work, but i'd be happy to dm anyone the hat pic that wants it. should be allowed since it's personal use. (idk how to dm on nexus so message me on my twitter "minn0w7" or tumblr "minn0w7").
firstly if you have seasonal cute characters go into the config and set "SlightlyCuterWizard" to false. save the config edits. (if you want to be super safe, you can delete both "Wizard" folders in both the "Characters" folder and the "Portraits" folder. you find these through the "assets" folder. it's not needed but is a way to foolproof). then go into the romanceable rasmodius folder and go into the one called "assets". delete the "VanillaWizard.png" file. go into the "sprites" folder and delete the "VanillaWizard.png" file. (i also deleted the "NewWizard.png" file, but that was just to be safe).
now that's all done, pick out the portrait you want to use. unfortunately with this method, the outfits won't be seasonal - you'll be stuck with one portrait year-round. he's the wizard so he probably has control over his body temp or something like a lizard. i went with "Wizard_Spring.png", but it doesn't matter which one you choose. return to the romanceable rasmodius folder and go back into "assets". copy+paste whichever portrait image you picked straight into the "assets" folder. rename the portrait to "VanillaWizard"; it should read as "VanillaWizard.png" when done.
next we'll do the sprites. if you chose to go the hat route, pick "WizardHat.png". if you went without the hat, pick "Wizard.png". go into the "assets" folder, then into the "sprites" folder. copy+paste whichever sprite you chose into the folder. rename it to "VanillaWizard"; it should read as "VanillaWizard.png" when done. (as a safety precaution, i copy+pasted the same sprite again, and renamed the second one to "NewWizard"; it should read as "NewWizard.png" when done. i doubt this is needed but after taking so long to figure this out i was paranoid).
now you want to go into the romanceable rasmodius folder and go into the config. set "Sprite" to vanilla. set "Portrait" to vanilla. leave "Portrait Mode" as NineExpressions. save the config edits.
all done! it's quite the process but it's so worth it imo. i get to look at this cutie instead of a crusty old dude. feel free to leave questions in comments or in my dms on the socials i listed and i'll do my best to help.
I tried doing this but when I downloaded the most recent version of the mod, there was nothing that said "VanillaWizard" in either folders, all there are are the seasonal wizard clothes and the hat, so I'm confused on how to get this to work doing it this way v_v
as of the new seasonal cute characters update (which features new code so most likely why this is bugging out), this does NOT work. wizard was nowhere to be found in the game at all, and smapi threw up so many red errors i'm surprised my game didn't crash lol :( rip, loved this wizard look the best out of all of the ones around.
edit: i was able to make it work! so, since seasonal's new code means it's pulling from its asset folders, rather than deleting portraits/sprites as shown in the fix below, you have to REPLACE them instead. and if you want the hat version, you're gonna have to edit the portrait pngs to put the hat texture on the wizard manually. AND since there's only one sprite png, you'll have to duplicate it (copy the image and paste it into that same folder) three more times, then rename them all to the different seasons. ("Wizard_Fall", "Wizard_Spring", etc.). i'd make a nexus page for the adjustments for the ease of everyone but unfortunately the permissions won't allow me to do so.
I'd really like this charming Rasmodius.^0^ It's very strange that the romanceable Rasmodius version of this mod still works with my 1.6 version. I have only downloaded the seasonal outfits by Poltergeister and the romanceable Rasmodius by WerewolfMaster (I haven't downloaded sve). Going into the seasonal outfits's config and set "SlightlyCuterWizard" to false, you could also make it with Generic Mod Config Menu by spacechase0 and updating the content patcher to the latest version.
