HOW DO I CATCH THE FISH?
East Scarp currently has 11 fish species available coming in the next update.

  • For the nudibranches (Sea slugs), fish in the tide pools on the Scarp beach during daylight hours. There are four species, one per season.
  • For the two salmonid species, fish in the Deep Mountains lake. One is found in the morning, the other the afternoon.
  • For the two catfish, they can be located in the "Abandoned Mine entrance" map. It is somewhat hidden, but can be accessed from both East Scarp and the Orchard. One spawns on rainy days, the other in the evening from 4pm. Be warned: there are many, many bats there at night. And some are very dangerous.
  • The King Carp is currently the hardest to locate: I recommend visible fish so you can admire him in his majesty swimming in the deepest part of the Deep Mountains lake. You will either need to extend your fishing skill to get him, or find the way to the top of the southern most cliff above the lake.
  • For the fairy betta, fish in the pond or river of the Orchard (not the ocean). It also can be found in Fairy Pool if you have Tristan installed.
  • The Red Herring can be fished for in the Smuggler's Den map. To unlock it, befriend Rosa.
All can be put in fish tanks or fish ponds.

DO I NEED TO START A NEW SAVE FOR EAST SCARP?

Unlike most other expansions, East Scarp is perfectly happy to be added later in game. Do note that the addition of new items will cause the item ID rearrangement known as the "Json Shuffle".

IS THIS COMPATIBLE WITH MULTIPLAYER?
For the most part, yes. Please note that the characters do utilize immersive scheduling, which means that events in the game will affect their behavior - and in multiplayer games this is generally driven by the host. Characters that are set to appear after unlocking events may need to be unlocked by the host.

HOW DO I GET JOSEPHINE AND OLIVER IN MY GAME?
They attend the Luau annually. Lewis will drop by late in fall (the 28th) to tell you they are coming. I strongly recommend you enter the bus stop early on the 1st day of winter. This will activate a one-off cut scene that you will not be able to see otherwise.
If after seeing that cut scene, Josephine and Oliver are not in town, please restart your game.

HOW DO I GET KATARYNA IN MY GAME?

Kataryna visits o the 15th of each moth. The first time you meet her, you will get introduction dialogue. She has three cut scenes during that time (Saloon, Beach and Town, outside the Archaeology House (If you have Juliet installed).
You will also see her appear in another event as a temp actor.
After Josephine leaves town, Kataryna moves in. There are numerous events in this time, and at the end you will be given a choice on whether to encourage her to stay, or let her leave. If you choose the latter, she will no longer be part of the game. If you choose the former, she stays and becomes social and has another number of events before finally leaving on a more happier note (unless you marry her ofc).
Marriage with Kataryna is in beta as it is more complicated. She has a custom chicken coop which will only work properly atm on regular maps. If you have a custom map that moves the spouse patio, things may get funky. Please message me if you do marry her, as I would be very interested in how it works out.
You should not be able to marry her if you are already married (even with Free Love installed).
HER STORYLINE IS MORE INTERESTING WITH JULIET INSTALLED.

WHY DON'T ROSA, JOSEPHINE, OLIVER AND OTHER INN NPCS SHOW ON NPC MAP LOCATIONS?
Due to the special material the roof is made of, people inside the Scarp Inn can not be detected by the NPC Map Locations drone. They should be visible when they are outside, however - so if you cannot find them on the map, it is probable that they are inside the inn.
(Technically speaking, we're not sure, but it *may* be due to the internal warps inside the inn).

THE PATH IS THERE, BUT I CAN'T ACCESS EAST SCARP!
You may have installed another mod that is over-riding the town warps. These can include custom NPCs with residences in, or accessed via, the town map. It is a very easy mistake for map creators to make!
If you experience this issue and cannot solve it, please post a bug report with a Smapi log and I shall endeavor to track down the conflicting mod.

WHAT ARE ALL THESE CONFIG OPTIONS?

"TownMap"
: configures the entranceway, see below for details.
"River": "true" or "false: Turns the quarry into a river. Good for fishing and also makes the map visually compatible with SVE
"Forest": "false" or "true", replaces the two right most houses with trees.
"Skin": "NewEastScarpe", "Kaya" or "Yri": switches to gorgeous Santorini buildings. Note that the door on the Vet's house doesn't line up properly due to a later design change. Yri's buildings are also stunning, and have several options for flower variation.
"EnableMeadowFarm": "true" or false: if you'd rather go straight from East Scarp to Deep Mountains without having your own little alpine farm
"WalkTidePools": "false" or "true": by popular request, lets you walk across the rockpools. NPCs will too. You can still fish in them just fine.
"ObeliskOptions": "vanilla","glass" or "Garden": changes the Obelisks so you can match retextured ones. Does not include Gwen's statues. Sorry.
and
"EnableSpecialOrders": "true"or "false": toggles off the special orders if you'd rather get the vanilla ones before doing the East Scarp ones. Otherwise it will choose randomly.

I'M FISHING UP FRESHWATER FISH FROM THE OCEAN!

East Scarp has three fishing regions, and magic bait doesn't seem to differentiate between them.

THE PATHWAY IN LOOKS FUNNY, WHAT'S WRONG WITH IT?
You're probably running multiple map-changing mods. There's a list on the main page of map-changers that East Scarp is compatible with, and it should detect automatically,  but if you are running multiple you may need to config it.
These are your config options:
"Default": If you have only one map editing the town map, it will choose it automatically.
"Karmylla": If you run Karmylla's Town map with Reimagined or Reimagined2, set config to "Karmylla"  if you wish it to choose Karmylla's patch. 
"Vanilla": Will over-ride all automatic options and use the vanilla map patch instead.
If you happen to be running a combination of several town map modifiers, and the path doesn't match whichever one you're using, and it's not one of the config options (or won't work even when configed correctly), please let me know and I'll throw in a config option for it too!
        
IS IT COMPATIBLE WITH RECOLORS?
Mostly. Most of East Scarp uses the core game tilesheets, except for the buildings, which are custom designed from the vanilla tilesheets (which means they fit that aesthetic but won't adjust with recolored maps, although I have muted their colors somewhat).

IS THIS COMPATIBLE WITH SVE?
Yes. East Scarp's new location across Shearwater Bridge has been designed in collaboration with Flashshifter. If you have Grampleton Fields installed it will add a path to the east side (below the silo). I am aware it is a long way to walk and can recommend the Multiple Mini Obelisks mod.

IS IT COMPATIBLE WITH ANDROID?
No, it is not. The smapi component will do very bad things to your ability to save  in android, and as such, please do not load it on Android!
It is unlikely to ever be compatible in Android, especially since most of its features rely on SDV 1.5 or higher.

THERE ARE TREES GROWING THROUGH MY HOUSES!
This means that at some point the wilderness patch was enabled - whether by intent or because I accidentally uploaded my config file - you will need to perform a terrain reset or chop them all down if you can reach them.

CAN I PUT STUFF IN THE HOUSES?
If you like and they should be okay but make sure you remove them before moving any custom NPCs into that location. If you have stuff in the houses but discover the Wilderness patch has been activated, don't panic, the houses still exist!  You can unconfig the wilderness patch or warp directly to them by typing debug warp ESHouse2 (or 3 or 4) into the smapi console.

WHEN ARE MORE PEOPLE GOING TO MOVE INTO EAST SCARP?
In base East Scarp we have:
  • Jacob, Eloise, Aideen, Rosa, (and one secret NPC), plus temporary NPCs: Oliver and Josephine, and Kataryna.
  • Always Raining in the Valley adds Sterling, Henry and Mia.
  • Yri the Architect adds Yri, her partner Charles, their adorable pooch and perhaps one day... someone more!
  • Never Ending Adventure adds Mateo.
We also have various mod-makers working on NPCs: more information on these can be found in our Discord channel (see Comments section for a link).
If you are an NPC creator and would like to move into East Scarp, please let me know. We are getting quite full, but will help you out as best I can!

WHY ARE YOU SPELLING IT 'EAST SCARP' now instead of 'SCARPE'?
Because I discovered that 'scarpe' means 'shoe' in Italian, and I was embarrassed. It's still 'Scarpe' in the code, however, and the NPCs will still use it (including Aideen, who makes fun of it).

WHY SO MANY DEPENDENCIES?
Believe it or not, East Scarp has less dependencies than some expansion mods, and the majority of these are ones that are considered "core mods": as in, you will likely utilize them for multiple games.
The only ones that are less frequently used are the Tilesheets mods: Lumisteria's Indoor (and Outdoor) Tilesheets and DaisyNiko Tilesheets. The creators of these have elected to release them as individual mods, rather than requiring them to be packaged. They are utilized because a, they add new features to ES, making it stand out from the vanilla maps, and b, I want to support the artists.

HOW DO I ACCESS THE ORCHARD?
Visit after 6 at night and find out!

WHY CAN'T I DATE /MARRY JACOB?
Jacob still has not completely recovered from the loss of his wife. He's also dedicated to his practice. Also, the game does not currently allow Eloise to move in with him should he marry the farmer, thus she would be left in that big, empty house all alone. Do you want to be responsible for that? I have been experimenting with other functionality, such as adding in non-spouse NPCs to the farmhouse (they can enter but not leave) and am toying with some other ideas, but as the game mechanics currently stand anything would involve a fair amount of hackery.

CAN I FEED THE DUCK?
Offer him a grape and see!

I'VE FOUND A BUG!
Post a Bug Report with a Smapi log. Note that the full log is required: see smapi.io for details, as we cannot often tell from a screenshot. Even if there are no evident errors on the log, even knowing what mods you have installed can help a lot.

WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH.... (the orchard, the goats, the deep dark...)? IT SEEMS UNFINISHED?
East Scarp is a collaborative work in process. This means that not all the lore is readily accessible currently. There are hints around the place, however - if you look in the right places, or talk to the right person at the right time. I work on my mods in my limited free time, and organically test my game with multiple mods installed to ensure broad spectrum compatibility. These things take time! East Scarp is not designed to be an all-in-one mod like SVE, nor is it a full game in itself, like RSV. It's designed to enhance the vanilla game-play experience, whilst also offering character creators a home for their families.

WHAT IF I WANT TO UNINSTALL THIS MOD?

Like most content patcher mods, East Scarp can be safely and easily removed at any time. It is best not to have any active quests or special orders running, and advisable to sell any ES exclusive objects first. If you don't have the Error Handler mod (bundled with Smapi), then your save will be very, very angry though.

    Hi! I'm really enjoying the mod but I'm playing with a really picky backseat gamer who doesn't care for any of the extra content, so I want to remove the mod from the current save and just play a new one by myself when I have time. 

    I see from the FAQ that I'm supposed to be able to remove ES without issues, but my save becomes corrupted whenever I remove the mod. I wonder if something has changed since the FAQs were last updated?

    I just came in here to find out about Jacob, as he’s by far my favorite NPC, vanilla or otherwise. I would love a chance to parent Eloise. If you ever do figure out how to get her to move into the farmhouse with her father, there will be much rejoicing.

    i cant access the crossing area its overridden by the bridge area from sve is there a way to fix this ?

    Does Victoria have any heart events? I've gotten into the slime room, and it says her yellow slime is friendly, but that's it so far. We're at max hearts.

    Can you help me, all i need is 1 more person to be great friends and then I can reach perfection. I use the tools to check what I'm missing, and it's actually Kataryna. I'm on year 5 and josephine already left East Scarp. But still this Kataryna won't move to East Scarp. I already install event lookup, and there is no sign on event about Kataryna except "Beach when vincent and Kataryna are there. But it's already 2 month still no triger on this scene. Please help me.

      Yes just drag and drop the entire folder into the mods folder.
      Make sure you have all the requirement mods as well!
