With this mod and the first house upgrade (the one that give you the kitchen), you can now cook one meal and one drink per day for free (to incentivize the player to cook more). However, the player can only cook simple recipes at first, and they'll have to level up their cooking skill to be able to make more complex ones, like spicy eel or seafoam pudding (experience is gained by cooking meals, of course!). Recipes are still learned from The Queen of Sauce and the mail/saloon, but the previous rules apply. And on days when spouses stay at home, they'll cook breakfast at 6 am, lunch at 12 pm, and dinner at 5 pm. At cooking levels 5 and 10, you'll get a choice of perk like all of the other skills, look here for inspiration: https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/522. So what do you think? (no pressure :) )
Since your spouse is contributing, you probably have a joint bank account. What if the spouse occasionally (maybe once a week?) spent some themselves? Realistically, it doesn't seem completely fair that you get complete control over where the money is going
Some ideas for reasons (maybe mentioned in dialogue or mail):
They mention the bills occasionally (water, electricity) in vanilla, so maybe some of the money is going to that!
Groceries
Things for children (if you have them)
Abigail: Guinea pig food + video games
Alex: Workout equipment + protein food
Elliott: Pens + paper + books
Emily: Cloth + parrot food + crystals + healthy food (she mentions quinoa) + essential oils? (she seems like she'd like that)
Haley: Clothing + makeup + photo film + things for her bakery with that mod?
Harvey: Things for the hospital + model planes
Leah: Paints + brushes + other art tools + fancy food and wine
Maru: Hardware + robotic equipment + materials
Penny: Books for school + books for her + other stuff for the kids
Sam: Things for the band + video games
Sebastian: Software + frog food/maintenance + comic books + video games
Shane: Chicken food + video games
Claire: Dancing equipment + ...acting stuff? (idk about this one)
Lance: Weapon upkeep + potions + other adventuring gear
Olivia: Wine + Fancy food + Upkeep of her home + investing
Sophia: Upkeep of vineyard + cosplay supplies
Victor: Paying for upkeep of bridges
I really don't know a whole lot about Ridgeside, but this is the best I could come up with:
Alissa: Supplies for orchard
Blair: Supplies for fishing
Daia: Upkeep of adventuring gear
Flor: Things for teaching, similar to Penny
Ian: Supplies for the odd jobs
Jeric: Supply for the seed store + farm supplies + animal food
Jio: Upkeep of adventuring gear
June: Music gear?
Kenneth: Supplies for fixing electricity
Maddie: Scientific things
Philip: Things for his clinic
Zayne: Paperwork, permissions, govt stuff
Alec: Paying for pet supplies
Aspen: Supplies for farming
Barron: Books
Lyell: Farming + animal expenses
Nikolai: Beekeeping expenses
Aideen: Upkeep of house for rent + flowers/seeds
Cirrus: Upkeep and supplies for Lion's Mane
This is basically all I could think of, so there are several left out that I don't know enough about to make a decision. I hope you consider it, though!
ok! so i was checking the mods i have right?
and shane and alex do work if ya have immersive spouses installed!
for shane to work ya have to have shane working on tuesdays toggled on
for alex i believe like in vanilla he only works summers
if you do incorporate it given how infrequent their work and income is compared to other characters i'd suggest the following:
Shane hands you money around every few months
and
Alex will give ya money by the end of summer
btw? with the mod you can make it so that when festivals occur a farmhand can be assigned! meaning that in the sense of canon they are working! take your time with updating and if you don't want to it's 1000% cool! imma be using this mod for a good while!

I have at least two mods that give him a post-marriage job (I just can't figure out how to link them):
"Immersive Spouses" and "Immersive Characters - Shane" have him work at Marnie's ranch only on Tuesdays. I've disabled that feature though since I like him having a more regular job.
"Shane's New Job by Ran" has him help out at the saloon.
And if you do choose to incorporate the wizard in some way, the guy (or gal) is never at a loss for commissions or ways to make money. Potions, enchantments, wards, etc.
