It seems that my monitor and screen resolution can have an issue.
All went well during installation, choosing the default options by Reshade (latest version 5.7.0), I do have the menu (start screen with the static helicopter), and the tutorial appearing top left. Going  through it, "Let there be light.ini" is correctly selected and is the only one.
But then. when I leave the tutorial for going back to the starting menu screen and loading a game, I instantly get a black screen with little parts of grey (print screen below), moving my mouse, I have an oversized prompt crossing my screen, telling me that I do see something, and it is perhaps only part of a wider screen - I don't know -... Alt+F4 is the only solution.
    My monitor is Samsung G9 Odyssey LC49G95T, 49", 5120x1440.

Question 1: is there something in the "Let there be light.ini" I should edit, for this kind of 32:9 format? (or would it be something else?)
Question 2: how is it possible to unload ReShade and revert to the normal game (so then I can try with other resolutions...)?

    Thank you!
    1. Sorry to hear this, not sure what would be causing that. Do you have a mod that is forcing that resolution or is it supported by the game natively?

1.)  I wouldn't think so but I have only ever used 16:9 and 16:10 aspect ratio so I can't speak to that. I am aware some games do not play nice with widescreen but you'll have to research further.

2.) To uninstall reshade you can just open the same .exe you used to install it, select SOTF and DX 10/11/12 again and it then you will see an uninstall option, follow the prompts from there.

      Thank you for your reply.

No, strictly no other mod than yours.

1: Now, I have managed to have it working, but it requires many game launches + Alt/F4 - relaunch + etc... A cycle that I have to do sometimes 8 or 10 times before the screen seems to be stabilized and I can access the menu...
It makes me wonder if the reshader process requires time for loading in the background before having my AMD GPU driver catching it, orv the game "digesting" it...
BUT, I did notice that you must NOT touch the mouse (and of course keyboard) as it will always fail the launch. Again, it really looks like a delayed process, even if my hardware is rather high (AMD Ryzen 9 5950 X + AMD Radeon 6900XT + 128 Gb Ram, all on FreeSync Pro and FSR enabled.)
It works, but with patience, and once you do not exit the game, no crash !

      2. Thank you for the tip. It works perfectly like this, especially after adding a shortcut to the reshader : it allows on-the-fly changes and it is much user-friendly than I thought. I used also a workaround by renaming the "reshade-shaders" folder created in my Steam Game SoTF folder.

Here is a printscreen showing that, when it works on a 32:9 5120x1440, it works! :

I'm having the exact same issue, using a 16:9 Aspect Ratio (1920x1080).

I've managed to set a hotkey to toggle the mod on/off, and here's how it goes:

Sometimes, the game crashes right away upon reaching the main menu, whether I move the mouse or not.

When it doesn't crash, sometimes the main menu is displayed as a bright green screen with some stuff in it. By toggling the mod off with the hotkey, I can access the main menu and load a game. The mod will then work flawlessly for the rest of that session.

And sometimes it works right off the bat, making the main menu that much brighter, but visible and useable. I can load a game and use the mod at will, and it works just fine for the rest of that session as well.

      EDIT:

It seems the game is crashing because the mod is active before the main screen loads.
I've found out that if I quickly toggle the mod off BEFORE the main screen is loaded, the game won't crash.
I can then load a game and toggle the mod back on, with no issues whatsoever.

Is there a way to make the profile default to off when first loading the game?

      EDIT 2:

      Yes, there is!

Look for the following entry in ReShade.ini (without the blank spaces):
      [GENERAL]
No Reload On Init = 0
Set it to 1, save and launch the game.
Then set a reload effect hotkey in the ReShade menu.

Now the main screen loads correctly every time, and after loading a game, I reload the effects and activate the preset.
      Thanks again.

The darker night isn't there for fashion but for function. It adds a layer of required planning in terms of clever use of flares and flash light batteries aswell as the possibility for enemies to sneak up to you from the dark or for you to miss loot if you don't check the area properly while advancing. Getting a feeling of reward by managing the obstacles of low light conditions properly is essential for a good survival game.

Removing it is like adding extra food sources in the winter so you dont have to worry about storing cans of food and energy drinks in preparation of it and thus removing the feeling of reward/accomplishment from your planning. Such mods that essentially behave like cheats will just ruin the game for you in the long term and make you quit it.
    1. I see what you're saying, but imho at this point I feel like the last game was better balanced. In SOTF the huge boost to cannibal numbers and encounters, the lack of effective traps, the inability to hear cannibals footsteps approaching like you could in the last game, the absolute hordes of cannibals in narrow pitch black caves, and the total darkness at night in general.. these were all elements I was finding tedious. And while certainly you do have to prepare for battles more, I would argue the amount of light given off by the torch, and fires in general is less than realistic, and while I do appreciate a game actually making night dark like real night in the woods, it is after all a game and I am playing for some level of enjoyment, and total darkness basically means I can only play during the day cycle. The amount of enemies in caves is ridiculous for how dark it is in most of them and it just feels like a tedious grind. Especially since I play a with a controller and there is no weapon/item cycle button making battles in darkness an absolute PITA.
Also the lack of consequence from hunger/thirst/cold/wet so far make this less realistic than the last one in terms of survival so that's a moot point anyway.

I'm guessing you haven't tried the reshade, but I intentionally made it so it still leaves things decently dark, or I would say functionally visible, I didn't just crank the brightness to 100. It is much darker than the one Farket is using in his videos (no shade on Farket - pun intentional).
Anyway I just play games for fun. My partner and I are here for a building sim in a nice environment with some creepy enemies and treasure hunting resource gathering and the total darkness inhibited that to an unnecessary degree.

except that its not balanced in game. flares dont light up a cave like you'd expect (honestly they dont light up anything but the floor- you have to look for the silhouettes of mutants instead of lit up mutants), torches make it HARDER to see at night and have less range than the tiny lighter when held.

whenever it gets to night time i just drop a tarp and sleep to day. maybe at least with this until they tweak some things, i can actually do anything at night

I'm guessing you haven't  tried the mod. Give it a shot.

It's really balanced, and solves something I take as an issue:

In a region with zero light pollution, the game doesn't have any moonlight.
It's pitch black all night, even when the weather is clear.

      That's just ridiculous.
It's like being blindfolded for half the time you're playing, for no good reason except to make it "more challenging".

Exploring at night with this mod is still dangerous, but personally I think it's much more exciting when I'm not completely blind.

I hear ya about this, but in this game, its just TOO dark.  Not being able to see walls 5 feet from you is annoying and for some reason, makes me squint my eyes because it feels like theres this annoying vignette due to how the lighting works.  I think they need to go back and rebalance the lighting a little bit as some times it looks fantastic, while other time its so jarring.

I'm getting a bug where the main menu gets covered with either a giant pink fleshy texture, or grey boxes, toggling the mod OFF fixes it and allows the menu to be used.

I only see a black screen.
I cant hit 'Home' and see the the configurations, and I can only see the game menu again if I disable all the options.
    1. Sorry to hear this. My guess would be this is a problem with Reshade itself not playing nice with your system or install. I would google:
(your issue)+Reshade and look for a fix.

The .ini file I have provided here is just a set of instructions for the program Reshade to read. Honestly I am not knowledgeable enough about Reshade to make a good guess about what your issue is. Google is your friend though, and Reshade is a widely used program so you should be able to find a solution. :]

Thank you so much for your effort.

If I would like to customize for myself, how could I change the parameter/ setting from yours?
    1. Sure thing, glad you are enjoying it!

If you want to customize it just hit the "home" key and you will see the menu pop up on the right of your screen. You should see a column of effects with checkboxes next to them. Below this column you should see a box with all the sliders/values for each individual effect. If you do not see that lower box, look for a a small checkbox in the bottom right of the menu that says "performance mode" and uncheck it. This will reveal the hidden effect controls and you can tweak it to your hearts content.
