Seems like you've kinda been putting up with a bunch of crap from a bunch of people who don't understand code and license agreements(frankly I don't understand to much myself) still thanks for creating this. I do find it funny myself that it appears that people don't get what appears to be a fairly basic notion of using what was made open source by default or what is emulated behavior without using any source code. Considering that Mario clones exist and that game sharks as I understand it are legal for the most part I think it's pretty clear you're in the right. I don't understand the GPL but it sounds legit. I do think at the end of the day though it is simply at least a few people trolling you. Good luck with your endeavors, and i hope you don't let the haters and misinformed get to you.

Actually it's just bbepis being a jerk. The mod loaders function just fine on their own, so to completely render them obsolete without permission isn't something that needs to be done.

Thanks, but I don't think I'll be doing anything here for the near future. This community has proven to be too toxic and the members here just make it too unbearable to even want to participate any longer.

      - Draco will rage at you if you point out that the extent of his programming is just editing JSON files and doesn't actually know what a code license is. Not only that, he'll ban you without stating the reason, delete your messages, tell everyone to report your mod and just tell everyone that i'm "not willing to communicate" even though I'm being straight up denied the opportunity to do so

      - Ghastly is just a troll and I made the mistake of trying to talk to him under the assumption that he was arguing in good faith. I could talk and post about the legal documents and precedents giving me permission to do what I'm doing for hours and he just will straight up ignore it and try to attack you any other way that conveniently doesn't even mention what you wrote.

      - Ric originally thought that this use was acceptable and then went back on it, but you can't find any evidence of this because Draco deleted it. Is a hypocrite and performs the exact same "illegalities" that SRUL does

      - Komiks says that this is bad but is happy enough to use MelonLoader which was very close to having its repo taken down because of a very real MIT license infringement

      - Lilin needs to get serious help and give up because the next version of UMF is going to be dead-on-arrival before it releases in the next 5 years when there are better alternatives that already exist right now, and don't involve the developer insulting users left and right

People can argue all they want about UMF's terms of service but there's no court of law on Earth that would take it seriously. Because it's premise isn't legal in the first place, and that goes for any other mod loader for this game.

The TOS for Unity Engine itself ?explicitly forbids any reverse engineer, decompilation or assembly modification work. Yep, you heard that right. Under the same premise that this mod allegedly violates the TOS for UMF, UMF, SRML and Guu are ILLEGAL.

There's no explicit legal permission given by the devs of this game either, as there's no EULA specifying what you can and can't do. This boils down to "all rights reserved" which does not end well for you if the devs ever want to take you to court.

People won't go after UMF, SRML or Guu for being illegal like they have for this mod though. Because their perception is tainted by a discord moderator who wanted to go on a powertrip and try to exclude you from the community because you're different, you're from outside the community and you don't belong.

But in the end it won't matter at all. Ghastly will pick a single sentence in this message to reply to, Draco will continue believing that he's 100% in the right and ban / mute you for thinking otherwise, and no-one will care what you have to say. I'm just glad that this community acts as a sort of containment zone and that none of the people here have tried to extend into other modding communities, because they'd be in for a rude awakening.

That being said, if anyone has any more issues with this mod then let me know if the replies below.

I'll probably have one more update for this in the future, when Guu releases so I can merge it into this mod. And it's under MIT, so I challenge someone to tell me why it would be illegal to do so. "Didn't give permission" isn't an answer. (Do you really think people ask for permission to fork a project? Have you ever used github before?)

      Unity's TOS specifically states that:
?Accordingly, you agree not to disassemble, decompile, modify or reverse engineer the Unity Software, in whole or in part, or permit or authorize a third party to do so, except to the extent such activities are expressly permitted by this Agreement or by law notwithstanding this prohibition.

This is not saying you're not allowed to decompile the Unity software itself, and nowhere in it does it say that you're not allowed to decompile games or assemblies. If this were the case, any Unity game modding project whatsoever would be gone after for violating the Unity TOS. It is purely up to the game developers to state whether or not they want their property modded. Also, Guu doesn't even fall into this department because one of its main focuses is not actually modifying any game files.

However, what you did with UMF is against its EULA:
      Without limiting the foregoing, You are neither allowed to;
?(1) adapt, alter, translate, embed into any other product or otherwise create derivative works of, or otherwise modify the Software.
      (3) modify, merge, recreate, reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble or otherwise attempt to derive the source code for the Software.
      (4) publish, distribute or re-distribute this software without express written permissions from Us.

This project is in violation of all three of these, from a EULA which you most-likely have accepted. You have also publicly posted the password to the encrypted binaries of UMF mods.

I will note that I'm in no means a legal expert, this is just my view-point.

This is only the case for Assembly-CSharp.dll. SRML and Guu don't peek inside or modify any of the Unity*.dll files, but UMF does. You can even check for yourself by looking at your Managed folder before and after installing UMF.

And even then SRML and Guu violate the agreement by "reverse engineering" the unity assemblies. Opening them up in dnSpy is enough for that. Linking against them in visual studio is enough for that, because visual studio will kind-of decompile it by showing you properties and types that show up in intellisense.

I'll admit that the UMF EULA was broken if you agree that all 3 mod loaders violate Unity TOS
