The IDs from MO2 differ because of the changes... I'll post a note in the description, simply removing the file will bring it back to the default categories, but you can use it on a new instance ofc with no problems
For anyone who doesn't know how to install this, here is what I (who is a complete noob) did to get it to work:
1. Manual Download and extract file.
2. Copy "categories.dat" from the extracted file.
3. Open up MO2 program
4. Look for the file icon two buttons to the left of the mod (NOT plugin) counter. If you hover your mouse over it, it will say, "Show Open Folders Menu."
5. Click the file button and navigate down the list to the "Open Instance folder" and click it
6. Paste the "categories.dat" into the "Open instance folder" you just clicked
7. Close MO2
8. Run Mo2 again, and the changes should have been made.
There is probably a better way to do it, but as I said, I am a noob, so this is the process that worked for me. Your mileage may vary.
OK, so I'm probably overthinking the install instructions, but I have no existing categories.dat to replace with this. Is there not one? Do I literally just drop on it the MO2 Base Directory folder? And did you mean for pre or POST 2.5? I just updated to 2.5 so I don't think this is for it based on your description. Does 2.5 even need this? Usually I sort my mods by No groups, so I'm not sure this would even affect me.
I have a question about mods we already have loaded while transitioning to this. Do we actually need to Remove them or can we just Reinstall them to take advantage of the category assignment?
So does this automatically assign the categories for you or do you have to manually do it? Because I'll be honest... a lotta mods out there I would have chosen a different category for.
the ones that come with MO2 are archaic with sub categories and what not, nexus simplified the categories at one point, but MO2's default categories were never updated, these also come with matching ID's, meaning if you download a mod from Nexus, the correct category will be assigned in MO2
For example: download any mod from the 'Clothing and Accessories' category, in MO2 it will be assigned to the 'Clothing' category, because back then it was a split category
Nice. Well, maybe not since I now have to reconfigure 2000+ mods. Never noticed any errors, but if this is the new Separator order then that's what I'm going to have to do. Thanks...
