Hello.

What is this?

Thank you for asking. Dragonborn Voice Barks is an event framework built to allow the player character to say one-off voice lines in different scenarios. Think, "Never should have come here."

Some event examples

  • An NPC engages the player character in combat.
  • The player kills an enemy.
  • The player drinks a potion.
  • The player enters a dangerous location.
  • And so on, an exhaustive list of current events can be found under the articles section.

Voice Packs

Demonstration

Didn't you already make this for LE?

Yes and no, Player Voicesets was a *very* early foray into development for me and is generally built pretty poorly, certainly not close to any standard I have in twenty twenty three. People still download it though, unhinged behavior tbh.

What makes this any different to other similar mods?

It's fundamentally different in really one core way. Instead of changing the PC voice type or implementing new lines through the engine's regular quest driven generic dialogue and dialogue trees, DBVB plays a dialogue line directly from a given .fuz path.

The one key benefit of this method is that supplemental voice packs can be made as simply as creating the .fuz files and organizing files into appropriate directories, no plugins, coding or CK required. Because we're dealing in .fuz files this also means as long as a valid .lip file is packed into the fuz, the PC will lip sync spoken lines. This method also allows for any number of files per voiced event, simply add more files to the event's folder.

Where are all the voice packs then?

I've only made one so far, available in optional files. I may make some packs based on ripped audio from the vanilla dialogue if I can summon the patience to deal with that in future. If you're a savvy individual and want to explore making a voice pack before I've got the article up it should be pretty easy to see the required structure and files from the optional voice pack.

Can you show me how to make a voice pack in more detail please I do not understand all this waffle.

Yes. If you're here right after posting, wait a bit and I'll have a guide posted in articles. If you're here from a more reasonably distant future, the article is probably there unless something terrible has happened.

I do have a tool in development for easily packaging voice packs for DBVB but it's not release ready at the time of this writing, it is however capable of processing .lip files in batches so I have made it available in optional files.

Do you have anything else to say before getting to installation?

Yes, weird question though. This is a pretty early release and hasn't had rigorous testing. It's generally behaved and performed perfectly in both my vanilla testing suite and in my current 500+ mod load order, that said, if you have any issues and they aren't already present under known issues, please do post a bug report with as much detail as possible.

Requirements

Installation

  • Correctly install all required files.
  • Install through your mod manager of choice or manually extract to Data if you're out of your mind.
  • Install any and all voice packs you want available.
  • Enable plugin.
  • Hab funm

Uninstall

This is probably pretty safe to remove from a save, I haven't tested this and you should always adhere to the rule of thumb of not removing mods mid-save. But do you, report if it break I guess.

Known Issues

  • It's possible for lines to play over one another if differing event types trigger in succession, currently I don't have a good way to resolve this but we'll see.
