About this mod

Make crafting more immersive by starting off with no* knowledge on how to craft items; instead requiring schematics (or recipes for food) which you can acquire from merchants, loot or breaking items down to get notes and then combining those into one.

* Only items that show up in leveled lists are patched, otherwise there would be no way to get the base item either.

About:
This patcher overhauls the way the progression of a blacksmith works and adds in another way to spend/make money for crafters and non-crafters alike by creating an economy around knowledge, particularly crafting knowledge. Any item that would otherwise be present in some form of loot or merchant's store that is also craftable now requires having its paired schematic/recipe, in addition to any other requirements, to see the item as craftable in its respective bench and be able to craft said items. This adds a lot of opportunity for roleplaying for crafters and merchants alike adding yet another thing to look out for when looting and making it more interesting to develop as a crafter by acquiring knowledge and not just spending perk points.

How it works:
You can buy or find Schematics/Recipes, but since the drop chance (1% by default, but can be customized) you're more often than not going to be breaking down items you loot into Schematic/Recipe notes, by default this happens at the Smelter for all items. The value of the notes is much smaller than of the items, so this makes wanting to be able to craft an item more of an investment, but you can recoup the cost once you craft the Schematic/Recipe which has a value proportional to the amount of notes you used to craft it (the amount varies between 5 and 10, pay attention to the language in the note description) but slightly larger so you can actually make money from creating these. With that Schematic/Recipe in your inventory now you are able to see and craft whatever item it describes, though if you do lose or sell it that knowledge is lost.

Usage:
First set up and run Synthesis (install instructions) then download and open the .synth file contained within the zip file of this mod. The patcher should be automatically imported to Synthesis, after which you can run it. A basic guide on using Synthesis is available here.

Customization:
1. By default the following crafting benches are covered, but the patcher supports adding more via its config:
 - forge;
 - tanning rack;
 - cooking pot.
2. You can customize the drop chance of schematics, this affects merchants and loot alike;
3. Tempering toggle (if you disable this tempering is no longer tied to the schematic);
4. Use smelter to break down items (I moved the disassembling to the smelter as to not give smithing xp, disable this if you use something like Uncapper or any alternative ways to nerf exp gain from smithing);
5. Blacklist items;
6. Add names to pool of crafters (by default, looted schematics and recipes will have a name assigned to them from a pool, any names added here will be added to the pool as well).

Considerations:
I have added a workaround for the blacksmithing tutorial so at every step of "craft X" it considers it as you having the schematic, since the smith is telling you what materials to use and a vague description of how to craft it. After completing the tutorial the knowledge of crafting/tempering iron daggers and hide helmets will be with you permanently and is the only exception to the system. You can still get the schematics for the items and learn to craft them without going through the blacksmithing tutorial mind you, this is just so you're not soft locked in this quest if you don't also have the schematics.

Compatibility:
Should be compatible with anything as this is a Synthesis patcher, no additional patches necessary.

Recommendations:
You might want to use something like Uncapper to nerf smithing xp, and therefore move the items back to their original benches.
I encourage using this with mods such as Alternative Crafting System - I dont want to be a blacksmith to make blacksmiths more than just glorified merchants and to give you a way to still temper and craft while you're building up your knowledge collection (or while you're avoiding smithing, in which case you can still use this system for its mercantile additions.
