About this mod

Tweaks Civil War Overhaul soldier pool to something less over the top, more immersive and sometimes wearing new cool gear

Requirements
Permissions and credits
I love Civil War Overhaul, i really do. But ApolloDown had some *specific* vision for his battles. Giants, Ebony Knights, Wolves, Nord Heros clad in Draugr Armors and wizards fireballing everyone in sight. But some people, me among them, have different expectations. Some people want it to be grounded, toned down, with minimal amount of weirdness and diversity.

I also attached optional modules that distributes items from other mods to CWO soldiers. The modules are following:
1. Anniversary Edition module
2. New Legion module
3. SoS module and i refuse to elaborate which one
4. aMidianBorn Content Addon module
5. Beyond Skyrim module

So i put together this thing. Here's list of changes:

IMPERIAL SIDE:

1. Removed all but one mage types. Battlefield is not a fireworks show. Synod and College of Whispers do not seem to be interested in politics. I left only imperial wizard clad in imperial armors.

2. Removed wolves from leveled lists. Real nord don't kill doggo :(

3. Renamed Imperial Tesserariurs, Princeps and Protector Divini Lateris into Imperial Centurion
They wear Imperial Heavy Armor and Officer's Helmet
If you use New Legion Module, they use Imperial Officer Sword, else they use Imperial Sword

4. Renamed Imperial Hastatus, Praetor, Veles, Quaestor and Salarar into Imperial Soldier
They wear one of three imperial sets with proper helmet
They use Imperial Sword

5. Renamed Imperial Saggitarius and Explorator into Imperial Archer
They use Imperial Sword and Bow
If you use New Legion Module, they use Imperial Arrows, else they use Steel Arrows
If you use Anniversary Edition Module, they have 25% of having Imperial Crossbow instead of Bow

6. Renamed Imperial Princeps Prior into Pilus Prior, most senior Centurion of a Cohort and it's de facto commander
If you use Anniversary Edition Module, they wear Imperial Champion Armor, else they wear Imperial Heavy Armor and Officer's Helmet
If you use New Legion Module, they use Imperial Officer Sword, else they use Imperial Sword

7. If you re-add Synod Mages and Imperial Conjurers and use Beyond Skyrim Module, they wear Synod and College of Whisperers robes, as well as cut Archmage variants of them

The general idea is to make Imperial Army far more uniform. Less rag-tag guys who run into battle in hoods, without helmets, with mismatched shields and some looted random weapons. They all have the same stats as in CWO, they are just renamed and reequiped.

STORMCLOAK SIDE:

1. Removed all mage types. No exceptions. College of Winterhold is famous for it's neutrality and nords aren't really fond of magic.

2. Removed wolves and giants from leveled lists. Same reasoning as with imperials.

3. Reequiped Stormcloak Berserkers
They wear Stormcloak Officer Armor (the Bear-head one), regardless of you using Sons of Skyrim
If you use Sons of Skyrim Module, they use Stormcloak Two Handed Weapons, else they use enchanted Nordic weapons

4. Renamed Stormcloak Hunters into Stormcloak Skirmisher
If you use Sons of Skyrim Module, they wear Stormcloak Armors from said mod, else they use normal stormcloak light gear
They use Hunter's Bow and Iron Arrows or (they have 25% chance for it) Steel Crossbow with Steel Bolts
They use random Stormcloak weapons, from the same list that is changed by Sons of Skyrim

5. Renamed Stormcloak Rogues, Scouts and Thiefs into Stormcloak Levy

6. Renamed Stormcloak Aventurer into Stormcloak Volunteeer
If you use Anniversary Edition Module, they have a chance to wear Iron Plate Armor, Steel Soldier Armor and Leather Scout Armor
Regardless of the above, they also have a chance to wear Iron Armor, Steel Armor, Scaled Armor, Hide Armor or Leather Armor
They use Hunter's Bow and Iron Arrows or (they have 25% chance for it) Steel Crossbow with Steel Bolts
They use random Stormcloak weapons, from the same list that is changed by Sons of Skyrim

7. Reequiped Stormcloak Oathbreakers
If you use aMidianBorn Module, they wear Imperial Outcast Armor, else they wear Stormcloak Officer (the Bear-head one) helmet and torso with Imperial Heavy boots and bracers. Module requires SPID to use!
If you use New Legion Module, they use Imperial Officer Sword, else they use Imperial Sword
If you use Sons of Skyrim Module, they use Stormcloak Officer Weapons from said mod, else they use Nordic Weapons from DragonbornDLC

8. Renamed Stormcloak Dervish to Stormcloak Sellsword, because i don't even know what Dervish means lol
If you use Anniversary Edition Module, they wear random redguard set from Lord's Mail CC, else they use Alik'r Clothes
If you use Beyond Skyrim Module, they use Ra Gada weapons, else they use Scimitars

9. Left Stormcloak Fugitives alone. They are allllright

The general idea is to cut out Thieves Guild element from the army because wtf, Thieves Guild is controlled by Maven, they are on Imperial Side, ApolloDown why u du dis anyway. I also made a wider usage of original bear armor, since let's be blunt - i use Sons of Skyrim and it almost entirely culled Stormcloak Officer Set from the game. But i like this set. So i gave it to Berserkers. Bear-Serkers. You see? I'm smurt. I also used Outcast set from aMidianBorn for Oathbreakers. I think the original idea was to make them ex-legionnaires that took Ulfric's side, but Apollo had no assets to make them look a part. Well now we have. The module is walled behind SPID tho. The reason is to both cut de-facto dependency (which wasn't possible with the rest of them) and make it universal whether you use Crafting Overhaul version or No Crafting Overhaul version. They have different esp names you know. Now they look badass. Go download Xavbio's Imperial Armors retexture too. It's based. You might think that this would make player confuse them with normal imperials, but they have this bear head helmets that make them distinct enough. Now you see why i gave all imperials helmets? It's all interconnected you know.

Extra thanks for:
  • ApolloDown for Civil War Overhaul
  • Schofida for Civil War Overhaul Redux which is basically Civil War Overhaul 2.0
  • FrankFamily for Imperial Champion Armor from Creation Club
  • Bethesda for Blades Armors from Creation Club
  • TateTaylor for his Tamrielic Distribution from which i shamelessly stole the idea how to do modularity properly
  • Invicta for clueing me on the fact that Pilus Prior was name of most senior centurion of Cohort
  • Kacper Kwiatek for making me realise that it's not just me who has problem with the units in Civil War Overhaul

Future Plans:
None, unless Schofida allows us to use different list for different hold. If he does then lets fukken goooooo. Imagine vanilla Imperial Soldiers in one city, Nordwar's in another, Silver Blood mercenaries after Thongvor takes power, turncloaks in final battles etc.
