I think it broke with the 1.6.1170 update (or the one in December) I had hoped it would work intending to take advantage of that particular duality, but I keep crashing when I cast the spell.
Some people flip out over reading skillbooks too early because trainers only train up to a certain high skill level. With the mod Masters Actually Train up to 100 that fear evaporates. I heavily recommend it.
Awesome mod, thank you! Would it be possible to add an option to ignore spell tomes? I find myself learning unwanted spells and getting accused of stealing tomes :O
I actually kinda wish that quests were triggered when reading books through this mod. Any chance of this becoming an option in the config file, please?
Didn't work for me with Eloquent. Apparently not gaining exp as expected when 'reading' books through the spell. Not sure if its an issue on my end, though.
In my game, it says the book is read without actually marking it as read. Can it be that interface mods (I use Untarnished UI) or Book Covers Skyrim is the issue?
Yeah, it doesn't add the eye icon, if the book starts a quest or gives skill xp then it doesn't do that either. And if I cast the spell again, it is saying the same book is read again, but it's not.
There's a side-effect when using this with containers; it'll have you learn any spells / books / bounties etc. that you don't have, which is intended, but it also does so for those selling books. If their merchant container is within the vicinity or on their person, it'll also read from them. I used it at the castle and all of a sudden I had about 20 spells that I learned. I checked the court wizard and checking his inventory showed that I now knew all the spells they were selling.
Would there be a way to have an ini option to not have it read from other NPC's or chests, unless it was the player npc or their own container? eg.. I'm the player, i cast the spell.. it'll read from myself, all books within the radius in the world, and any books that are in my own containers.
To read books from other containers or other npc's the player would have to obtain them first.
Just some suggestions. (Tracked and Endorsed regardless)
Hi! I thought I worked around merchant chests haha I added some code to skip them but maybe it isn’t working properly, which version of the mod were you using?
That was with v 1.08. It also doesn't register books in the world or in inventory as 'read'. the little eye icon. version 1 works okay. I've rolled back to using that for now but I love the idea of being able to read a mass list from just having them in my inventory and the added bonus of being able to extend the range is a 2 mush thumbs up from me.
edit: Spell books seem to show up as being read (eye-icon) but other books don't. Wasn't able to check skills as I've pretty much read most books in the game already. I'd have to check on a new playthrough to test for sure.
update.. I created a new test game with just this mod and live another life installed. new game, went to breezehome, up to court wizard. stole the book, read it, got the spell. Used the spell near wizard. it 'shows' all the books in the area as being 'read' on the notification line, but the game doesn't actually register books/skill books as such; Only spell books seem to work. All spells the wizard was selling showed up in my magic list. checking his wares, shows that all the spell books (except ones I already knew) had the eye-icon. walking around, I tried it near the open book shelves, again it shows a notification that books are being 'read', but they don't (including skill books). This is version 1.08. Hope this helps.
using version 1, as soon as I cast the spell, all the skill books, spell books and regular books on the shelves immediately showed the eye-icon, skills increased, some spells were learned. I believe this version doesn't have inventory checking.

Either way sounded fun hah.
