Hey there! I've just come around to crosscheck this, and it looks like Simon hasn't touched the PlayerVampireQuestScript again, so this mod should still be compatible with the current Scion update, which is 2.2.2. I've also changed the file description to reflect it. Cheers!
Hey @Grise0Vulpes, many thanks for the mod and the double checking, but I'd like to suggest that you change the description page to say which exact version of Scion this is compatible with (2.2.2). Saying it's compatible with the "current" version when this mod was last updated in 2023 makes it seem it's, in fact, not compatible at the moment. I know you mention the version in the Files section too, but I think it's a fair assumption that many people might pass on this mod just by looking at the current description and "last updated" date.
I'm so thankful someone made this a thing again. I usually don't play as a vampire so I never realized they took this away when Dawnguard came around. I recently started playing a vamp and was so disappointed that no one attacks you when you're bloodthirsty. I stopped drinking blood because what was the point? Now I'll actually have to keep up with it again. Much appreciated!
I like this in a way, but it is a little easy. Any murder committed while at stage 4, won't get you a bounty. Satisfy your thirst and all is sweet. Even being caught in stage 4 won't get you a bounty. Although it would be nice that if caught at stage 4 you would get a bounty. It feels good to be hated. The message that I got a bounty came up, but when you revert to stage 1 all is forgiven.
It seems fast travelling to Solstheim while at Blood-Starved Stage 4 may have created a weird bug where the Stage 4 hate does not apply to the residents and guards in Solstheim.
Feeding or drinking the blood potion, and then going back to Stage 4 after the fact has no effect on the people of Solstheim. It does seem to work with anyone from mainland Skyrim, notably the sailors that ferry you back and forth between the two locations. Not doing the feeding/starving leaves them stuck at friendly. Leaving things this way only makes Skyrim guards hostile.
I tried the console command to kill my character, went back and forth between Skyrim and Solstheim, doing the feeding/starving cycle, to see if the hate will eventually come back to Solstheim people for Stage 4, but it doesn't seem to work. Either the mod has limitation somehow with Solstheim people, or my fast traveling to Solstheim at Stage 4 may have screwed things up. If I did screw things up, is there a way to get things back to the way it is supposed to be?
Vampire Lord hate functions the way it is supposed to.
It is funny seeing the 3 sailors chasing me all over Raven Rock, trying to kill me, while all the Redoran Guards run away or just watch as spectators.
The Dragonborn DLC is filled with poorly implemented scripts which happen to run chaotically on the background whenever you're in Solstheim, especially the first time. Other mods might have worsened this, and I don't know your load order. It could be a number of things that have bugged your playthrough, so if I were you I'd go back to my latest clean save. If you're already way past that, your might try and manually add yourself to the VampirePCFaction with a console command (I don't know it from the top of my head, look for it on the UESP), then feed, then remove yourself from than faction.
I first tried your suggestion, but that does not seem to have any effect.
I went into SSEEdit and looked into the faction records, as well as the UESP faction site. According to them, the VampirePCFaction is NOT labeled as enemies for people of Raven Rock, which seems to be designated as DLC2CrimeRavenRockFaction. In fact, DLC2CrimeRavenRockFaction does NOT have VampirePCFaction labeled as enemy, as its "Relations" tab is empty, unlike say... CrimeFactionEastmarch, which clearly DOES have PlayerWerewolfFaction and VampirePCFaction labeled as enemy in its "Relations" tab. Even the UESP site does NOT list the Raven Rock faction under all the enemies listed for VampirePCFaction. So my guess is that either the mod has to adjust for this, or I will have to find a way to personally edit the records so that DLC2CrimeRavenRockFaction has VampirePCFaction as designated enemy.
There is another mod here on the Nexus that does exactly the opposite of what this mod does. Vampire Progression Reversed is what it is called. That mod turns everyone hostile when you are at Stage 4, only that the Stage progression is reversed, so that feeding makes you more powerful and hated. Tried running that mod, and it seems to work there in terms of getting the proper hate from the NPCs in Solstheim. I use MO2, so I copied my current profile into a test profile where I disabled this mod and enabled that other mod temporarily just to check out the difference.
Since both mods don't have ESPs and only the loose script files, I can't really look into them with SSEEdit, but I will look into see if I can see something with the CK. Anyways, I have a hunch that something needs to be corrected in terms of relations for DLC2CrimeRavenRockFaction. Maybe I am completely off, since I have little knowledge in modding, but I would appreciate your assessment in this regard.
Big Kudos and thanks for uploading this simple tweak. I tried playing around with various vampire overhaul mods, but came to the conclusion that all of them just simply make the game mechanics way too complicated and my characters way too overpowered. I was now looking to go back to basic vanilla simplicity, and the only vanilla gameplay mechanics post-Dawnguard that I wasn't too thrilled about was the lack of NPC hate. I am not sure why Bethesda decided to take that element out of the game, but it was a very cool feature, and in my opinion, encouraged more careful management of feeding instead of blindlessly keeping the character either completely blood-starved or feeding at will without any thoughts.
With this mod, I now have to think more. I'd prefer to keep myself blood-starved at Stage 4 for more vampiric powers and bonuses (albeit with harsher penalties), but if I want to do any sort of business in towns, I would have to feed and put myself back to Stage 1. Once that is done, I would have to wait additional 3 days to get back to Stage 4, and the cycle continues. Much more realistic and interesting in my opinion.
Question: At Stage 4, are you also hated by the NPCs in Volkihar Castle? I am hoping that is not the case, as it won't make any sense.
That was my reasoning as well, I needed some kind of drawback to becoming a stage 4 vampire to counteract its power, and the original vanilla mechanic was exactly that. I guess many people just don't like drawbacks in games and Bethesda figured that with the introduction of Vampire Lords there was "no need" for a forced hate mechanic, a pity really.
Answering your question: the script is almost the same as the pre-Dawnguard vanilla script, which added the player to the VampirePCFaction, which the Volkihar vampires have no problem with so… yeah, they won't attack you.
Reporting back to say that so far, I have not encountered any issues at all. Great, simple mod. Thanks again.
The one thing I have been wanting to try but have not been able to do so yet is.... trying to use Vampire Seduction and feeding on an NPC in town while already being hate-aggroed by the town NPCs. I am curious as to how that would work.
I can see that the hate goes away if the feeding takes place in another instance; for example, if I were to go into a house or a building in town, feed and come back out, and the hate is gone. The only question is... what happens when the feeding takes place without going into another instance, as in inside the town but outside while everyone is attacking you. My guess is that the hate stays, but it will be gone after traveling away from the city and returning in a few days?
It really depends. If you're being detected while feeding, you could lock yourself on being hated by that town forever, but that's just how Skyrim works. It's what happens if you keep adding bounties to your head above 1000 gold aswell, or if you revert to mortal form as a werewolf while being hated; which makes sense really. Why wouldn't they hate you if you've proved yourself to be an enemy, after all? Think of it like this: hate will always overwrite faction alliance, meaning that if a faction change makes you hated, returning to the allied faction while being hated will not make you friendly again. So, if you're playing a "good" vampire your best bet is to back off and come back when you've fed, or get out of sight to feed like you suggested.
This is also the reason why the feature was dropped from Scion, Simon Magus' vampire overhaul, which I personally use with this mod.
Walked right into Morthal as Blood-Starved Stage 4 and got hate right away. Drank a blood potion and got right back to Stage 1, but the hate continued. Went into sneak mode and became invisible, and the NPCs went back to their regular routine. Got out of stealth, walked right into a guard, and the NPC hate disappeared.
So it seems, feeding to Stage 1 after the hate triggers, the ongoing hate would continue, but after resetting the NPCs back to their normal routine by either sneaking or running away, the hate would disappear. This is, of course, assuming that no additional bounty was incurred due to being witnessed in the act of feeding. Blood potion, obviously, does not have this problem.
Hence, I started my game with a personal rule of engagement, not to use blood potions at all. They make things too easy.

I can't find a mod that does a simple vampire change in oldrim. All the vampire overhauls add 100 spells/abilities that I don't need nor want :(
