About this mod

Upon exiting Helgen, you get a random Standing Stone blessing assigned to you

Permissions and credits
Made as a companion in spirit to Simply One Standing Stone per Life.

Upon exiting Helgen cave at the start of the game (=completing Unbound quest), you get assigned a random Standing Stone. You receive the associated abilities and a short note.

The note explains, in accordance with The Firmament (in-game astrology book, more or less), which stone you got and why. For example, if you were born in December Evening Star, you were born under the guidance of Thief.

This is another part of the challenge I've been imposing on myself for a while, and wanted a gameplay implementation. When combined with Simply One Standing Stone per Life, you get a random stone at the start, and you're locked in (unless you get a *cough* crown).

Just because you happened to be born in December, doesn't mean you're a thug for life, but hey, it is a temptation. Same if you happened to be a magic hating nord born in Rain's Hand. You just have to process this fact one way or the other. It could be a curse as well as a blessing. Useful for storytelling.

To be clear, this mod (Simply Random Standing Stone) itself does NOT restrict you from switching you Standing Stone later. It only rolls a random chance and informs you of your alleged date of birth.

Technical info to read before asking about compatibility:

The mod adds a small utility quest. The quest checks if the player has completed Unbound.

When the player has completed Unbound, it checks if the player has chosen any of the Standing Stones blessing - in case you're using one of the alternate start mods allowing you to wander around and choose Stones before you're done with Helgen. Or if you are adding this mod on an existing save. If the player already has a blessing from one of the stones, the quest does not change that. It just adds you a note corresponding with your chosen Stone. And then shuts down.

If the player has completed Unbound, and have not yet chosen any Stone, this quest chooses it for them. Random stone, one of 13 (Serpent included, of course). It adds you blessing/curses/powers the same way normal Stone activation would.

If you have a mod changing how blessings are applied in powerShrineScript, it could be a problem. For example, the Ritual Stone has a Perk it adds to you, or the Lover Stone removes the usual Rested bonuses. This is vanilla behaviour, and it is replicated in this mod.

Normally I would expect mods changing the spells themselves to be compatible. As long as they don't remove/add perks/spells (not to be confused with magic effects), but only edit them. New magic effects hooked up to the same spells should be fine.

Basically, if your Standing Stones overhaul mod edits powerShrineScript, then a patch is needed. If not, it should be fine.

Works perfectly with Optional Quick Start - SE. In fact, Quick Start makes an autosave inside the cave, so if you're really tempted, you can reroll (resist!).

Should be compatible with any other alternate start mods as well. Should also be compatible with most Standing Stones overhauls.

Unfortunately, not compatible with Curse of the Firmament, as it adds their own script, replacing powerShrineScript.

You can even install this mod on an existing save: it will not change your Stone, but it will add you a note with your birth month.

For a comprehensive and unforgiving Standing Stones overhaul with its own restrictions (not compatible), check Guided by Stars. A finale part of turning a self-imposed gameplay challenge into a mod.
