If you really like Flint and the stuff that I do, please endorse! Consider sharing this mod with others, and join my Discord for immediate updates as well as a community of Flint fans (Flans?). Thank you so much for all the support.
Do not use AFT with this mod. It will break Flint's brain and he will get angry at you and kick you all the way to Solstheim. Not NFF either, or anything else that affects followers. Before you put in a bug report or comment, check to see if you have those mods and try disabling them first.

1. Who is Flint?
Flint is a custom-voiced follower who is – as you can probably tell – a minotaur. He hails from the mountains of Cyrodiil, having learned the languages of man and travelled to the land of Skyrim in search of separation from his past. He’s brutish, haughty, doesn’t like wearing shirts, and will destroy anything and everything in his path that makes him angry…which constitutes most things he comes across.
Upon loading the mod, a quest should appear in your journal titled “Flint”. The rest should be pretty self-explanatory, and from then on you can enjoy his company.
Since his last iteration, Flint has been updated with a lot more content for you to explore. Below is a list including (but not limited to) his many features.

  • 1500+ unique lines of dialogue discussing a wide variety of situations, locations and topics in Skyrim
  • Multiple questions about himself, his past, his preferences, or just his current thoughts
  • A relationship system that will slowly increase over time and affect how he greets you, responds to you, and remarks on your chatter with him
  • Greeting lines for every single stage of the main quest, beginning to end
  • Comments on every single named cell in the game not within a city
  • The ability to relax (sandbox) at any tavern when you ask him to
  • A system to assign a home to him where he will return once dismissed
  • Custom traits that allow him special abilities that come with being such a giant – like dealing extra damage with melee weapons and having a carryweight of 450
  • Idles that remark on items in his inventory, as well as the people he’s around and the stats of the player
Warning: Flint is very large.
"That's...why I'm here."
Yes yes I know, but I still want you to be aware in case you missed the screenshots or just don't know much about minotaurs. His scale is set to 1.39, allowing him to see over even the biggest of NPC’s like Tsun or the Ebony Warrior. Likewise, he hits like an absolute truck, performing best with two-handed weapons (but wrecking face with pretty much anything, even his bare fists). He strongly dislikes heavy armor, and prefers to go shirtless most of the time. He starts at level 10 and will scale up with the player all the way to level 75. He whispers while you’re sneaking and will, of course, hit anything that you’re hitting. He doesn’t know any spells to begin with, and harbors a strong distrust for magic anyways. The majority of his lines are in his idles and thoughts sections – he often speaks his mind about where he is and will give you his honest thoughts if you ask him. Voiced and created by me (with plenty of help from the community), he's a passion project I've been working on for a long time and am happy to have finally given the representation it deserves.
This mod contains some strong language and discussions of sensitive content. Flint isn’t one to beat around the bush, nor does he hold some of the most reputable opinions. Please keep in mind that while Flint is my character, I do not share all of his opinions or ideals – after all, he’s just a work of fiction and does not directly represent me in any way.
For both my own sake and in case anyone is curious, Flint is eight feet, nine inches tall and weighs around 720 pounds. That's about 2.62 meters, and 326.6 kilos respectively. These are what I would call his canon measurements.

2. Why should I download this mod?
I dunno man, you clicked on the modpage. Clearly you’re somewhat interested.
All jokes aside, I hope that the description preceding this section has convinced you to bring Flint into your game. It’s true that he isn’t “lore-friendly” by most standards, but I never really strove to meet that goal anyway. Flint started out as a D&D character I made when I was a young lad, and he has since grown into a character I’ve really delved deep into in terms of backstory, identity, and realism. His personality is molded by my own struggle with internal emotions, as well as what I’ve learned from others over the course of my life. If you spend time around him, it’s clear he isn’t a mentally stable person, and has evident anger issues. But, that’s what I think makes him a good follower. Not every follower should be a happy-go-lucky beam of sunshine or a Barbie doll with the disposition of cardboard. A unique follower is shown through how they react to the world around them and treat the player. He is mean and grumpy, for sure, but if you spend enough time near him you can start to see the better side of his personality. A side that very few other people would get to see. When you first meet him, he’ll be gruff, unfriendly and impatient. But as you get to know him…well, he’ll still be gruff, unfriendly, and impatient. Just in a bit of a nicer way, y’know?
By far and wide, he is not the most in-depth follower on the Nexus. Not by a damn long shot. Hell, he’s something I put together in a year with zero prior modding experience, so he’s definitely a bit rough around the edges. There are far better and more polished follower mods out there, including ones that are more lore-friendly or vastly more popular and relatable. Likewise, his personality is not for everyone, as it’ll take a long time for him to start respecting you. All I ask is that you recognize the hard work and time that goes into making a mod like this, and even if I haven’t convinced you to download my follower, maybe I’ve helped you see that another one is more to your liking. There are oodles of great custom followers out there, and more are being made every day. This is just one drop in the massive bucket of talented Skyrim modding and voice acting, and I really hope you give Flint a chance to be a part of your group. I guarantee, at the very least, he won’t be boring.

3. Installation/Requirements
Jesus, that was a heckuva lot of rambling. Sorry about that. Anyways, it’s worth noting since last update that FLINT IS NOW ENTIRELY STANDALONE. He requires no other mods to function, and will work both with and without his previous source mod (Ungulate Races). However, below are a handful of mods that while not required, may help if you are experiencing issues and/or were present when he was being made.
XPMSSE
Face Discoloration Fix
USSEP
Expressive Facegen Morphs
Flint may require XPMSSE depending on how you are playing with him. Notably, Flint tends to get a bit weird if you try to take off his prisoner pants - if you attempt to forcefully unequip them, the game will crash. Now, for most players I imagine this won't be a big issue, since they may never want to see him naked. If you don't intend to take Flint's pants off, you can safely disregard this message and install him without XPMSSE. However, for players wanting to unveil what lies beneath, you will need XPMSSE. This remedies a bug with UR related to his skeleton and if you have it, you can take off his pants without worry of crashing your game. By default he's wearing a bluish thong (yes I know it's weird, just roll with it) but he should function with other mods like SOS should you want to view his...eh...member. Just please, keep that in mind going forward, XPMSSE is a common mod so I don't expect it to be an issue for most people but you should be aware. That's all.
As with any other mod, just throw him in your mod manager of choice and he should be good to go. His body uses the khajiit skeleton and khajiit armor race, so keep in mind if you have any mods that alter that (like Muscular Khajiit Textures) it will also likely alter his appearance. As expected, if you give him helmets or hats, it will look funny. That’s kind of a given. If you’re updating from the last version of Flint, be sure to completely remove the previous version and make a quicksave without it before loading the newer version. Likewise, while they aren’t necessary, mods like XP32 and USSEP are recommended, as I built him with those installed and it’s potentially safer with them around.

4. Compatibility
Flint has custom scripts, so mods that attempt to alter these scripts (such as ATF or NFF) will potentially screw with his brain; Do not import him into them if you want to avoid problems. The intro quest will also not spawn him or necessary NPC’s properly if you have a mod that significantly overhauls the Falkreath worldspace (such as Redbag’s), so keep that in mind. Other than that he should function as usual and work alongside the majority of modlists. He is HIMBO compatible and follows typical actor animation rules as far as I know - though his size may create some weird disproportions, of course. If you encounter an issue with him and another mod, please put it in the bugs tab and we’ll see if we can’t get it resolved.
Warning: You may encounter problems if you attempt to significantly alter Flint’s meshes, textures, race, or appearance. Making Flint standalone was a great deal of work and required no small amount of copying files from UR as well as fanagling with both CK and xEdit to make sure all bases were covered. As a result, while he works, I cannot guarantee that messing around with him in either program (or in any program, for that matter) is safe. If you try to turn him into a woman, or make him a vampire, or re-path his meshes, or rearrange his tints, or change his armor addons, or anything of that variety, there is the risk that you will break him. I’m not saying you can’t, I just want those who want to alter his files to be aware that I spent a lot of time toiling over getting him to work standalone and admittedly, it was a bit of a hacksaw job thanks to the difficult nature of Skyrim. You’re welcome to join my Discord and ask about problems you might encounter, as I or mods will always be happy to help. At the end of the day, you mess with him at your own risk, so please just be mindful that if something breaks I can only help so much, if at all.
5. FAQ
Flint is all purple!
Purple means some kind of texture or mesh is missing. I would check your file paths and make sure nothing has been deleted, either by yourself or some other mod/program. If anything from the "Flint.esp" folders are missing, then his textures will not work and he'll look like the newest member of the Blue Man Group. If they were deleted and you aren't able to restore them, I suggest joining my Discord server to specifically see what might've happened and if it's possible to restore or replace them.
Flint's relationship isn't increasing!
This may be due to a script bug. If you're getting a message on your screen that says something along the lines of "Exit game and repair script" that means something is blocking it from running correctly. If you don't get that message but are still having the issue, the script isn't running at all. I suggest looking into the files to make sure the script files are actually present, and also checking to see if something might be affecting them.
Will Flint ever be ported to console?
YES! Flint has been ported to Xbox and you can find him right here, as well as at the bottom of the page.
Will you ever make a patch for [X] mod?
Likely not. I already do a lot of work for Flint himself, so I don't often intend to branch out to other mods (with the exception of a handful, that are listed in the future plans below). If you'd like a patch to be made for a certain mod and I haven't talked about it before, likely I will not be doing it. I'm totally open to others doing so, however, provided I am made aware of it as is in line with my permissions.
Does he interact with XYZ?
No, no interactions yet. Those are being worked on, and I hope to get them out soon, but it's a process I haven't quite gotten around to learning yet. Likewise, not every follower author will want to/be able to write interactions with him…there’s so many out there, y’know?
Will he work with version X of Skyrim?
Probably? While his esp was made and saved on 1.6.1170, I have the header file changed in xEdit so that it shouldn't be limited to only one version of Skyrim. Might be best to update just for safety's sake, but if you choose to stay downgraded I don't see why he wouldn't work.
Will he function with custom armors and HIMBO?
As long as said armors are fitted for khajiit - since that's the armor race he uses - yes. He should also work with HIMBO since he uses vanilla skeleton assets and can be morphed like any other NPC.
Flint has no clothes!
This has to do with his outfit not spawning unless he's recruited. Just ask him to trade and switch out some of his armor pieces - he should automatically equip them.
Flint is only human sized!
He likely spawned at the wrong scale, probably because he sat at a bench or something. Just use the console (press the ~ key), select him and type "setscale 1". That should reset him to his usual size.
Flint won't let me trade with him/Flint won't wait/I can't dismiss Flint!
If it's the first two, try dismissing and then re-recruiting him. If you can't dismiss him, try kill/resurrect or disable/enable via console commands. If all else fails, reinstall the mod. If that fails, then you might have an SEQ bug or something and you may need to either put in a bug report or DM me on Discord so we can troubleshoot.
Flint isn't at the jail!
Either quickload, reinstall the mod, or use the console to find him and spawn him near you. Double-check to see if his esp is actually enabled - if it isn't then he just won't spawn at all and you may have a larger issue. Remember if you have mods that overhaul Falkreath (and by association, rearrange the worldspace significantly), he may not be in the jail properly. Below is a list of worldspace mods that DO interfere with his spawning - if it isn't here, it probably works.
- RedBag's Falkreath
X has no dialogue options!
This may be due to SEQ files not generating properly - quickload and that should fix it. It might also have to do with your load order, so be certain you're loading him after Ungulate Races.
He’s too big! He always gets in the way of doors and clips through everything!
Bro. Did you read anything whatsoever above this.
Is he romanceable?
Yes and no. His new relationship options will open up some dialogue here and there that’s a bit more intimate, and yes, you can ask him to marry you if your relationship is high enough, BUT that’s about as far as it goes. He’s not really the romantic type. However, a romance quest may be on the way...you'll have to wait and see.
Can he ride a horse?
Yeah, though I’d feel sorry for a horse that has to carry 700 pounds of minotaur on its back. But sure, he can ride just like any other NPC.
I downloaded X mod/I modified his scripts/I tried to change his race and now he doesn’t work!
Unfortunately, there likely isn’t much I can do about that. Put in a bug report and I’ll see if I can’t help, but as he has a bunch of custom scripts and conditions, you mess with him at your own risk.
Does he work with mod A, comment on mod B, or mesh well with mod C?
You tell me man, I didn’t test every mod on the Nexus. Currently he isn’t “designed around” any other mods and should function more or less with mods that don’t edit his scripts or vastly alter his requirements. I did make him with mods like USSEP installed, so maybe it’s safest to have that mod around with him.
Can I modify him and post him as my own public mod?
I would like for you to DM me on Discord at eggsbenedict5116 so that I can be aware of and look over any changes you might be making, but there's a high likelihood I will approve what you're doing so long as you give me credit as the original mod author and are generally reasonable. I like to share my work and am happy when other people edit it; it's just a precaution that I know what's going on before I give it the green light. Don't be shy to ask - I promise I'm not as difficult to talk to as Flint.
Is this mod still in-progress?
Yes. More details in a later section but this is V2 of Flint, and I plan to release several more versions after this. Tangentially, if you have a request for future updates, put it in a comment and I’ll consider adding it to the list.
What if my question isn’t on here?
DM me at eggsbenedict5116 or put up a comment and I’ll see if I can’t answer it. If you have a suggestion for me you'd like to leave in the comments, please do so kindly. I am new to modding and still learning the ropes, so there will be some odd edits or varied lines of code here and there that I missed. Thanks for being patient.

6. Changelog
3/19/2023: Initial release of V1.0
7/16/2023: Initial release of V2.0
8/28/2023: Update 2.01
v2.01 fixed the bugs that were occurring with his follower functions; namely, he wouldn't trade, wait, or be dismissed. Those bugs should be remedied now. As well, some of his dialogue conditions were updated - his question system is now based on his relationship rank, so you can't ask him everything right away. This should help to spread out his conversations a bit more, and also makes a bit more sense with you getting to know him over time. I also rearranged his files so they're in a nice, neat bsa folder as opposed to being loose. Lastly, he is now wearing the Ragged Trousers to start off with, instead of Hide Armor.
10/15/2023: Release of LE edition
Flint released as a Skyrim LE mod. Nothing else is changed from before, he's still version 2.01.
1/29/2024: Initial release of V2.1.0
v2.1.0 added a great deal of new content, all of which can be viewed in Flint's trailer; but to summarize, he can now relax at inns when asked and be assigned a home that he will return to when dismissed (at a certain relationship rank). He also has comments on every single interior cell in the game that isn't within a city, as well as another question tree that unlocks at relationship rank 600. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, he is now fully standalone from Ungulate Races, meaning you don't have to download any other mods to use him.
2/3/2024: LE Release of v2.1.0
3/10/2024: Release of v2.1.1
Update 2.1.1 just added some brutal battle scars to Flint's textures, the assets of which were used from DomainWolf's Skin Feature Overlays. Nothing else changed from 2.1.0.
4/3/2023: Release of v2.1.2
Update 2.1.2 fixed a small issue where Flint's teeth and mouth were using the textures of his horns, rather than the proper mouth textures. This resulted in some teeth being discolored or looking quite unnatural (as seen in the screenshots), so 2.1.2 just re-pathed the files in nifskope and now he has the proper appearance for his mouth. A small update, but notable nonetheless.
4/6/2024: Console port
Flint v2.1.2 has been successfully ported to Xbox, and henceforth will be updated there as normal.

7. Permissions
While I wouldn't say Flint has "open permissions", I am generally fine with people uploading small changes to him or modifying him in their own version and posting it as a mod, provided I am given credit as the original author and that I am notified of it first. If you're planning on doing something larger, like giving him more dialogue or adding him to a certain mod or creating a DBVO pack, I would prefer you contact me via Discord at eggsbenedict5116, or join my server, so that we can discuss how that would work out. Likewise if you want to upload him to other sites - in his current or any altered version - I want to be aware of it first. Flint uses assets from Ungulate Races and Skin Feature Overlays, so I give credit to the authors of those mods; otherwise his appearance and composition is all my own. Above all else please be respectful of my work, and if you aren't sure, it's best to reach out to me and clarify any questions you may have. I'm willing to work with the community and be open to suggestions, so long as I approve of them first.
I do not approve of using AI to replicate Flint's voice. If something requires his voice, and I approve of its nature, I would much rather do it myself than have AI copy my voice. Please do not make any AI content of him, especially outside my knowledge, as I will ask for it to be taken down otherwise. I promise I'm not hard to get in contact with, it'd be a lot more courteous if you message me about things you may want to do instead of just going ahead without any consent or review from my end.
8. Future Plans/Conclusion
If you’ve gotten this far, wow. You’re an avid reader. Or you just skipped to the bottom, but whatever. Thanks for taking the time to look through all of this.
Flint is indeed still in the works, and I try to add things to him as often as I can while juggling all the aspects of my personal life. I want to make him as detailed as possible, so he has something to say on practically everything. At the same time, I want to maintain his character and keep him unique, while still having all the aspects that make a great follower. All of that taken into account, here’s my (general) plan for what I intend to include for more updates and the foreseeable future:

  • Interactions (for other followers and some vanilla NPCs)
  • A romance quest that allows you to really get to know Flint and his inner thoughts
  • A “Let’s stop and rest here” system Included in update 2.1.0
  • A “This is your new home” system (so he doesn’t go back to the jail when you dismiss him) Included in update 2.1.0
  • More question topics (likely varied with relationship)
  • More detailed relationship effects/conditions
  • Comments on (most) every major quest and questline in vanilla
  • Dedicated MCM to adjust various styles and aspects of his AI
  • Scattered idles and thoughts for BS Bruma, Mihail’s Minotaurs, Solstheim and otherwise
  • Comments on players’ race, equipment, class, stats, etc.
  • Custom body mesh (for personal customization) Included in update 2.1.0
  • General expansion of topics and world knowledge
  • More context-aware conditional/”How are you feeling” dialogue
These aren’t in any particular order or necessity, and I’ll cross these off the list as I complete them and/or gradually update Flint. As always, I’m willing to listen to the community and if enough people are asking for a feature, I’ll consider implementing it. In the future I’ll try to update him every few months, adding a small handful of the features listed above at a time, until I’ve got him to the condition I want him at. I’ll still keep working hard to deliver more to the community, and even though I have a rather small following and am somewhat unskilled by most standards, I really really appreciate the support from you guys that I’ve gotten. I didn’t really think he’d be very popular, so it warms my heart to hear how much some people enjoy him.
