UPDATE 4: Download files have been tidied up and snow models are now available! To see the snowy models you'll need Cathedral 3D Mountain Flowers - Base Object Swapper and it's requirements. Simply load Primula after Cathedral 3D Mountain Flowers.
I adore Dr. Jacopo's flowers, so I wanted to dip my toes into making my own mountain flower replacer! Unlike the Cathedral 3D series though, these are not custom models from scratch - they're pieced together vanilla meshes in Nifskope, which makes them a little messy. (The petals are hagraven feathers, for example.) The only other noticeable issue is clipping - primroses grow very close to the ground, so the clipping and misplacement of vanilla flowers is more visible. The last preview image shows the worst example I found.
I recently figured out how to use the .nif plugin for blender, so hopefully I'll work my way towards original content soon enough!
The real Primula vulgaris is native to central and western Europe, but can be found throughout the continent. It's also the flower of former County Hordaland (now part of Vestland, which has no official fylkesblomster, but is well known for its landscapes! I desperately want to hike there.)
Q: How do they look alongside grass mods?
A: As low-lying flowers, primroses quickly disappear in dense meadows. Luckily, most of the vanilla mountain flowers line the roads, where grass tends to be thinner. I personally use The Grass Your Mother Warned You About, and while areas such as Goldenglow Estate are unfortunately obscured by tall grasses, plenty of roadside primroses are visible and (in my opinion) look quite natural.
Q: Does this mod have snow variants?
A: As of right now, no. I may add them in the future, but when actual primroses poke through the snow they really don't look any different from normal, so they shouldn't be too immersion-breaking as they are.
Q: How do I install?
A: Install with MO2 or drag the "meshes" and "textures" folders into your "data" folder and overwrite when asked. If you want the optional textures or denser floramountainflower02blue mesh, overwrite the originals with the ones found in "primula_extras".
NOTE: The optional blue02 mesh is optimized but almost twice the size of the original, so there will be a moderate performance impact.
Q: How do I get plantable yellow mountain flowers?
A: Use More Growable Plants, or it's sucessor, More Plants and Recipes. You may need to rename/move "dlc01houseingrdmountainflower01.nif" in the meshes -> dlc01 -> plants folder if the mod you choose uses a different path.
