About this mod

This mod uses Base Object Swapper scale transforms to adjust the size of various objects that are often thought to be either too big or too small.

"Aahhh! They're too big!"

If you're like me, this is a frequent sentiment when playing Skyrim, and not just in the face of Frostbite Spiders or 3BA body presets. Skyrim is full of dramatically oversized plants, vegetables, and food. Fortunately, the solution is at hand.

In October 2022, powerofthree updated Base Object Swapper, and introduced the possibility of applying positional and scaling transforms to swapped objects. In November, v2.5 incorporated dedicated transform swaps. In short: it is now possible to scale objects solely by using BOS inis.

The BOS ini in this mod contains records for a bunch of objects that users may want to scale.
  • Plants: Death Bell, Dragon's Tongue, Ferns, Gourds, Lavender, Mountain flowers, Nightshade, Snowberry, Thistle, and Tundra Cotton.
  • Food: Apples, Bread, Cabbage, Carrots, Crostatas, Eggs, Garlic, Gourds, Honey, Leek, Potatoes, Sweetrolls, Tomatoes, and more.
  • Clutter: Firewood piles.

Two versions

The mod comes in two versions.
  • The default version has all swaps commented out, and all scaling set to 1.0 (i.e. vanilla size). It is meant for users who wish to specify their own desired transforms from the bottom up.
  • The HS12 version has scaling values set for all the objects that I personally wish to change. It will probably work well as is for many users, and will be an easy starting point for minor adjustments.

Compatibility:

The mod should be compatible with just about everything. If you manage to find an incompatibility, let me know and I will see if I can solve it or note it here. Note that BOS swaps with transforms take precedence over pure transforms. So potentially, swaps in another BOS ini could override these.

FAQ:

Q: This is really just an ini?
A: Yes. No meshes, no plugin.

Q: My food floats. Should I contact a Vigilant of Stendarr..?
A: For some meshes, collision doesn't scale properly. This means that decreasing the size of the object can lead to it floating slightly above the surface of whatever it is resting on (and increases can lead to clipping). This doesn't happen consistently. On my own setup, e.g. tomatoes float, but cabbage doesn't. I'm trying to figure out what's happening. For now, it's a known bug.

Q: Can you add [insert object here]?
A: Maybe. Scale transforms have certain limits. I can't make it affect activators (i.e. critters) or NPCs (e.g. animals). But make a suggestion, and I will take a look.

Q: How do I adjust the ini?
A: The BOS page gives a good introduction to BOS inis. But in short: add semi-colons in front of everything you want BOS to ignore. Remove them in front of the stuff you want it to look at. Use either the FormID or the EditorID for any given object/record - not both. Adjust the number to suit your desired scale (less than 1.0 is smaller; greater than 1.0 is bigger).

Q: How do we scale critters and animals then?
A: Mesh replacers or tarlazo's universal fix for the former; race record tweaks for the latter. At least, that seems to me to be the easiest way to go.
