select your follower with the pointer & type forceav absorbchance 999. Not only will your follower catch any disease but also won't be affected by shout or magic, friendly or enemies

You are convinced that's a good idea, I guess ?

Your idea is good but I just said in case you didn't know. I usually tag my followers with this console command & then I can shout, cast splash damage spells without harming them.

Just in case you didn't know.
The setting you recommend messes up every advanced game setup.

There are mods using magic effects to control the functionality. One cannot be sure the related spells
have the flags no absorb/no reflect set. They won't work on your followers.

Nice for role-playing, but NPCs are not affected by diseases.
I mean, they catch them, but AFAIK don't suffer the consequences.

This is wrong, at least the part no consequences.

Base actor values on npc do not change right away. You can check this with xedit. put very high values in for e.g. stamina, health.
You won't see this in game on the npc/follower.
      Why ?
Base actor values will only be recalculated if the player levels up. When this happens, all new values will be taken into account.
This includes every magic effect applied as constant effect ability including reduced peak value from MGEF disease.
