Fixes a vanilla bug which can cause the Folgunthur boss fight to get stuck in your save running forever and retroactively stops it if it's already stuck. No ESP.

Description


The Folgunthur boss fight features a main target (Mikrul Gauldurson) and 10 other draugr thrall teammates. The way the battle is structured is that at any point while Mikrul is still alive, he will be supported by up to 3 thralls. If one of the active thralls dies, it will be replaced by another one until there are no more thralls to support Mikrul.

Unfortunately the way this battle is scripted can cause it to get stuck in an infinite loop. For example if Mikrul dies too quickly or in any way that causes his health to not reach 0 (for example, from a killmove, or killing him with the console). Furthermore, Bethesda's failsaves to shut down the fight don't actually work, so it's not uncommon that it will stay active in your save forever if the above ends up happening.

This mod does 3 things:
1. Prevents the fight from getting stuck in the first place.
2. Restores and improves Bethesda's failsaves, allowing the fight to get paused (not stuck) if you decide to leave the area and resumed once you return without stopping the thrall support system.
3. If you're installing this on a save where the fight is already stuck, it will be retroactively stopped and cleared from the active scripts in your save. (Optional file)


How to check if the script is stuck?


Download ReSaver and open your save file in it. In the left pane expand the "Active Scripts" folder and check if you see a dunFolgunthurBossBattle folder there. If you do and this save file was not made when fighting Mikrul, then the script is stuck.


Installation/Uninstallation


Install with your favourite mod manager.

The main file is safe to uninstall. The optional file should be relatively safe to uninstall too. If you have concerns, it is recommended to clean your save with ReSaver after uninstallation.


Compatibility and load order


Not compatible with anything that changes the dunFolgunthurBossBattle script. USSEP changes to the script have been retained.
Compatible with draugr overhauls.
Compatible with dungeon overhauls.
Compatible with everything else (hopefully).

Load order doesn't really matter. The optional plugin is ESP-FE and won't count towards your plugin limit. However, due to the way the game loads its files, loose file mods like this one will always take priority over mods packed into BSA regardless where they load. If a mod happens to edit the same script and is packed into a BSA, this mod will overwrite it and potentially cause issues. Let me know of any such cases and I will make a patch to accommodate the relevant changes into this mod.

If you wish your life to be filled with overwhelming joy and the fight is already stuck, go to the Folgunthur boss fight arena before installing this mod. Then save and install the optional file alongside Sharpest Draugr In The Shed, load the save and enjoy the symphony.
