There are hybrid lods already available but they are really high poly, they trash performance so much i can't use them. On the other hand HLT + performance 3d lods and level0/1/2 rule for lod4/8/16 and i get 2-3 fps loss over billboards.
Sorry you are right, ive tested ulvenwald with these https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/99067 Ulvenwald is higher poly on its own, but its the lods that kill performance.
If there are 3d hybrid lods like stepmpds did with full quality and performance quality. Then this would definataly be a good competitor over HLT. I vouch for it!
This is my favorite tree mod.. it would be so sick if there was some sort of expansion of this mod or something with the variety of traverse, but in this style. Anyways, I love your mods and can’t wait to see what stuff you make!
A little late but BOS stands for "Base Object Swapper" which is a mod that swaps out objects upon game initialization. BOS mods don't overwrite files directly to change something in the game but instead manipulate the game to use different file paths when it is launched. Therefore they are very compatible with other mods and also easier to create (BOS is really great in that regard).
Imagine a mod that adds a new functionality like a mead keg that creates mead bottles upon activation. Other mods add new taverns with mead kegs but those are still vanilla and need patching. With BOS you can swap out each and every vanilla mead keg with the new keg independant of its placement. It's a very elegant solution to the problem. Compare this to having to create a patch for every new mead keg. That would be madness because you would have to patch this mod for all eternity.
BOS comes with the small problem that by exchanging every instance of a specific object you may sometimes swap out objects that you don't actually want to swap out. But it's a non-problem most of the time.
In this context it would probably be possible to swap out every instance of the incorrect tree with a different one.
I really like the look of these. This type of questions is also sort of obnoxious, so my apologies in advance: How does this stand performance wise compared to something like Happy Little Trees? I've been using HLT cause my system can handle it well enough, but I've been craving a change of scenery.
I have not tested and compared drawcalls properly, but from just a user perspective - they are similar with billboard tree lods (Billboard4, Billboard4, Billboard(1) rules in Dyndolod).
My old i7 4770 1060 system only had difficulties with aspens, but they are easy to replace, since Wigfrid's Trees does not use unique folder structure, like HLT. On newer system I do not see the fps difference between HLT and Wigfrid at all. We will see, how well incoming 3d lods for this mod are optimized though: will it be comparable to decimated lods from HLT 3d lod or performance enjoyers will have to keep using billboards.
These trees are indeed look refreshing while keeping the northern vibe. I appreciate that it does not bring Mediterranean or Caucasus pines to Skyrim, like some of the tree mods out there.
I might try a little mix and match to see how it goes. Maybe Aspens from something lighter, but I'll keep pines and snow pines from Wigfrids, probably reach trees too cause they don't break the performance bank and they look nice. I can always go with Aspens ablaze or something for Aspens, and use some downscaled textures I had made if I really need the performance.
if you want to not use the plugin for my mod and keep the marsh trees btw, the original esp that is inside my own is called unique marsh trees, and you can find it on nexus.
yes I agree, if you want to change the saturation you can do so with a texture editing software like paint.net or photoshop, just make sure if you use paint.net you resave the dds with nvidia texture tools exporter otherwise the texture mipmaps will break

Edit: the plugin dosen't forward changes from Update.esm or USSEP fyi
Have a nice day
