The werewolf scourge extends to all. Anyone at any time could be a lycanthrope. ESPFE.

This is a small mod (ESPFE) that simply accomplishes something I always wished to see in-game. An unknown element to which individuals are werewolves. There are other mods that add more werewolf encounters to Skyrim, but after playing with these enabled for a few thousand hours, I now see them coming from a mile away.

How it works

By using po3's Spell Perk Item Distributor, three custom spells I have created are distributed to all non-unique NPC's at a rate of 0.1% for each one. These spells will cause the NPC to transform into werewolves. A small script attached to the spells waits for a short period of time (depending on which spell the NPC received), removes the NPC from all factions it is associated with, adds them into a custom werewolf faction, and forces them to transform. This process is invisible and silent until the transformation begins. The result is a once friendly NPC suddenly turning and going on a killing spree. When it happens its meant to be a nasty surprise that you and whoever happens to be standing nearby is now forced to deal with.

The intended effect is always new, always random encounters that shape and change your billionth playthrough in a new direction. Important people could be killed during these encounters that you no longer have access to. A single bandit in a heavily occupied camp could be afflicted who then changes and wipes out all of his buddies while you watch. A patron of an inn with a horrible secret could be drinking his last mead at the bar with everyone else. You wont see these coming until it's too late.

These newly transformed werewolves are the real deal. They do werewolf damage and become weak to silver weapons. Any werewolf mods you use will affect them as well.

Installation

Does not require a new game!

Just download it with your favorite mod manger, or drag and drop the contents of the zipped file into your data folder. Once placed, a few options will be available for you to tweak how you please by editing the "SotW1.4_DISTR.ini" file found in your the data folder.

When downloading you must choose only ONE of the main files. They are all the same mod but have differently tweaked distribution in their INI's. The first of the main files will distribute to ALL non-unique NPC's, while the other 5 files restrict distribution of the disease to only NPC's of specific factions.

Updating
Should be safe to update from any previous version. Although to be on the safe side, the esp has been renamed as one record and one script was changed. If you wish to play it safe concerning any already infected NPC's in your game, delete the old "LycanthropicScourge_DISTR.ini" file from your data folder and leave the old "LycanthropicScourge.esp" active until you start a new game.

Options

As of version 1.4 I have included four new perks with the mod that can be distributed to the infected NPC's to make them stronger:

Werewolf Power 2x - Multiplies the damage werewolves do by 2
Werewolf Power 3x - Multiplies the damage werewolves do by 3
Werewolf Resistance 25% - Increases the werewolves' resistance to all forms of damage by 25%
Werewolf Resistance 50% - Increases the werewolves' resistance to all forms of damage by 50%

These perks will be applied to the NPC's at the time of the spells but will not affect them until they transform into a werewolf. This is to preserve the immersion and keep the player from knowing before hand what they're actually up against. It will also cause more mayhem amongst NPC's if it takes them longer to bring the beast down. Beautiful chaos..

See below on how to enable these features!

Tweaking the INI

As stated above I have set the included DISTR file to distribute this tragedy at a rate of 0.1% to non-unique, ActorTypeNPC's. This will affect NPC's from the vanilla game along with any mod you have installed. Beyond Skyrim, Falskaar, Wyrmstooth, Vigilant, Beyond Reach.. as long as they have non-unique NPC's, they will be included in the distribution.

Distribution Rate of Infection for Werewolf Disease
You feeling sick?

If you do not like the 0.1% distribution rate, it can easily be changed to your liking by editing the included "SotW1.4_DISTR.ini" file found in your data folder. Open it in notepad and you will see these lines:

Keyword = InfectedWerewolf1|ActorTypeNpc,-Courier|NONE|NONE|-U|NONE|0.1
Keyword = InfectedWerewolf2|ActorTypeNpc,-Courier|NONE|NONE|-U|NONE|0.1
Keyword = InfectedWerewolf3|ActorTypeNpc,-Courier|NONE|NONE|-U|NONE|0.1
Keyword = InfectedWerewolf4|ActorTypeNpc,-Courier|NONE|NONE|-U|NONE|0.1

The 0.1 at the end of the line represents the percentage of distribution.  Change this to whatever you want. 0.1 - 100. Save the file and enjoy your mayhem.

At 0.1% distribution, I was seeing a werewolf transformation once around every 2 or 3 play sessions of about two to three hours each. This was on a fully modded set up of over 1k mods. If you wish to reduce this rate even further, it can be done. Edit the following lines' rates while leaving the previous lines at 0.1:

;Werewolf Scourge
Spell = 0x80D~ScourgeoftheWerewolf.esp|InfectedWerewolf1|NONE|NONE|NONE|NONE|100
;Werewolf Scourge
Spell = 0x80E~ScourgeoftheWerewolf.esp|InfectedWerewolf2|NONE|NONE|NONE|NONE|100
;Werewolf Scourge
Spell = 0x80F~ScourgeoftheWerewolf.esp|InfectedWerewolf3|NONE|NONE|NONE|NONE|100
;Werewolf Scourge
Spell = 0x80D~ScourgeoftheWerewolf.esp|InfectedWerewolf4|NONE|NONE|NONE|NONE|100

These being set below 100 will reduce the chances the NPC's will receive the lycanthropy spell even further.

Werewolf Enhancements
Not enough for ya huh..?

These optional perks come with a distribution rate of 0% (turned off). Depending on your game settings, preferred playstyle, and other NPC stat changing mods you may have installed, you might want to beef up your monstrosities. Same as above, just edit the "0" at the end to whatever percentage you want. You can split them evenly with 50 / 50 chances or just pick one and put it at 100. The choice is yours. Technically if you really want to crap your pants you could set all four of them to 100 and end up fighting 75% damage resistant, 5x damage dealing powerhouse chad-wolves.

Remember, these perks will not affect the NPC's until they transform into werewolves!

;Werewolf Power 2x
Perk = 0x818~ScourgeoftheWerewolf.esp|InfectedWerewolf1,InfectedWerewolf2,InfectedWerewolf3,InfectedWerewolf4,InfectedWerewolf5|NONE|NONE|NONE|1|0
;Werewolf Power 3x
Perk = 0x817~ScourgeoftheWerewolf.esp|InfectedWerewolf1,InfectedWerewolf2,InfectedWerewolf3,InfectedWerewolf4,InfectedWerewolf5|NONE|NONE|NONE|1|0
;Werewolf Resistance 25%
Perk = 0x81A~ScourgeoftheWerewolf.esp|InfectedWerewolf1,InfectedWerewolf2,InfectedWerewolf3,InfectedWerewolf4,InfectedWerewolf5|NONE|NONE|NONE|1|0
;Werewolf Resistance 50%
Perk = 0x819~ScourgeoftheWerewolf.esp|InfectedWerewolf1,InfectedWerewolf2,InfectedWerewolf3,InfectedWerewolf4,InfectedWerewolf5|NONE|NONE|NONE|1|0

Items
Shiny?

Scourge of the Werewolf also includes 10 items that are distributed to the infected NPC's to increase immersion. 3 of these items are vanilla, while the other 7 are new and unique. They are mostly journals, books, and notes, but there are other things I will not spoil here. If you find them in-game and dont want to see them again, just change their distribution rates to 0 after saving and quitting.

Forewarning    oh gods..

Lastly, there is a few things to keep in mind about how this mod works. Once you encounter a NPC that has been chosen, you will have roughly 40 seconds to 5 mins before the show starts.

- You may not always be within view of this NPC.
- It is possible you'll walk into town to see a slaughter in process or already over (especially if you use Open Cities).
- Load doors. If you encounter an NPC that is afflicted, and then leave the area through a load door, you will likely be walking into a pissed off werewolf slaughter when you return. Load doors mess with the timer's accuracy slightly.
- OTHER NPC's WILL BE KILLED. You either have to roll with it in your playthrough or start resurrecting people. It's fun trust me.
- Couriers will never receive the disease as they tend to be essential and thus become unkillable werewolf encounters.
- If you do not play with other mods that aim to increase the population of skyrim by adding non-unique "filler" type NPC's, you may have a very reduced amount of transformations. Vanilla skyrim's most abundant non-unique NPCs are guards, imperial / stormcloak soldiers, hunters, and bandits and they will end up being the bulk of your transformations.

As of version 1.4

- Without spoiling anything, this version does add new items. Just uh.. save your game before you eat or drink anything :)
- NPC's that are infected by this mod are done being a constructive part of your game. Once the spell-attached script begins there are permanent changes made to the NPC's faction relations. They will also NOT revert back to their old forms without the use of other mods. Consider them doomed.
