About this mod
A rework of an old idea to bring dragon shouts up to the what was imagined from release, connecting it to a DLC that I feel doesn't get the love I would like to see at times.

From even vanilla Skyrim, I always envied how dragons had the stream of fire and frost as their breath attacks and how we Dovahkiin had to settle for less stellar options for what was probably my most anticipated feature of the game. Naturally, one of the first mods I installed after buying Skyrim on Steam was the original DragonFire mod, and it remained even through the transition to SE with DragonFire - Reborn.
One thing both of those mods did not do, however, was keep higher level Draugr from wiping me out with those same shouts! That, and also give me a reason to use the endgame Black Books for more than just QOL or almost inconsequential buffs. And, after posting about the original idea on a Reddit post (now over 2 years ago as of the posting of this), I finally got around to it.
Anyway, enough with the boring stuff. Let's talk about what this does!
By accepting one of the boons from Epistolary Acumen, you will be granted a more powerful version of the associated shout. With Fire and Frost Breath, this means using the dragon's version with the full conic projectile. As an added bonus, I also added the Fire Ball and Ice Storm spells as the second word, just in case you have a mind for strategy. With Unrelenting Force, you'll now deal magic damage to dragons over time in addition to similar damage as frost and flame. As a bonus feature, while using the boosted shout that you've chosen, you'll sprout the ancient Dragonborn armor for a brief moment to show the raw draconic power you hold. (Pls ignore the gif in the description, I'll update with the current armor look once I have some time to record.)
Dragon Fire Breath:
Yol: Normal full power Fire Breath Shout, 25 sec recovery
Toor: Uses Dragon Fire Ball spell w/ a stagger effect, 30 sec recovery
Shul: Uses Dovah Fire Breath w/ stagger, 55 sec recovery
Dragon Frost Breath:
Fo: Normal full power Frost Breath Shout, 25 sec recovery
Krah:Uses Dragon Frost Storm spell w/ a slow effect, 30 sec recovery
Diin: Uses Dovah Frost Breath w/ slow effect, 55 sec recovery
Dovah's Unrelenting Force:
Fus: Normal full Unrelenting Force shout, 15 sec recovery
Ro: Uses modified Ro effect with more damage and a drain magicka effect against dragons, 20 sec recovery
Dah: Uses modified Dah effect with extra stagger and a longer drain magicka effect against dragons, 45 sec recovery
- Have fully mastered all 3 words of the shout you wish to replace (Failure to do so will give you a message about how your breath isn't hot or cold enough for the true dragon shout, respectively)
- Reached the end of Black Book: Epistolary Acumen (Just in case you didn't know where to get Dragonborn Flame/Frost/Force)
While I won't invite myself to any debates about lore-friendliness, I wanted this to be as compatible with the given world presented in game while also providing some balance. Also, it makes sense that locked in a forbidden tome that only the truly powerful can traverse would be the secret to breathing with your full might.
Requirements:
- Special/Anniversary Edition
- SKSE (v 2.1 and above will require SKSE, this time I did need an SKSE specific function lol)
Compatibility:
- Patches provided already for Thunderchild & More Draconic Dragon Aspect. Permissions are open to create patches for any other shout based mods, just link this mod as a requirement.
- Incompatible with Stormcrown currently as it edits the three blessings. Would be willing to make a patch but I would need input from the community to know what to integrate
- Incompatible with anything else that edits: The rewards for Epistolary Acumen (DBornFlame/Frost/Force are the spells that grant the shouts), the dialog options for vanilla shouts (hence the TC patch), new keywords, boosts to shouts/magic that don't use vanilla boosting
You might want to consider Word Walls Relocated - Special Edition if you don't want to entertain the Companions questline for the last word of Fire Breath.
Installation:
Safest bet is new game for this version.
Install w/ mod manager, sort it pretty much anywhere after Dragonborn. This can be loaded before any other shout overhauls (as long as they don't remove Fire or Frost Breath) to overwrite changes.
If you're one of those meticulous people who manually install, it's extract to %steam%/steamapps/common/Skyrim (Special Edition)/Data folder for you.
Updating:
So...I'm not sure about updating from a previous version. Best case I got is to remove any of my shouts you currently have, regain vanilla ones and remove the boon before closing the game, try cleaning the save before installing the new version. Nothing needs to initialize so just go and grab your boons once you've
Uninstallation:
Use console commands to take away my mods shouts and give you back the vanilla ones.
player.removeshout xx00C324
player.removeshout xx00F1EE
player.addshout 3F9EA
player.addshout 5D16B
Just to be safe, use ReSaver after getting the effects off you.
After that, you can untick/remove the mod in MO2, uninstall it from Vortex, or remove the .esp file as well as any scripts/source with the prefix "KYW_" from your game.
Version History:
2.1 - Another script rework, reducing them all into one PEX and reimplementing the Dragonborn armor effect as it was in previous versions (on the 2nd and 3rd words of the shouts). Removed FOMOD (I've broken that thing at least 3 times), updated Thunderchild patch so now all shouts should be voiced
2.01 - Scripts rework maintained, Draconic Unrelenting Force added. Renamed shouts to differentiate. ESL-ified two patches and re-added the dialogue (I realized 2.0 didn't have voices a little after release).
1.2 - Added FOMOD installer, includes patches for Thunderchild and
1.1 - added voices to shouts, players should now properly use both Yol-Toor-Shul and Fo-Krah-Diin. added Dragon Aspect armor effect to second and third words of shouts
1.0 - Mod release
Future Plans:
Add shouts to Miraak
Add shouts to high level draugr
Add shouts to Dragon Aspect
