Thank you for the update - I've read on reddit that the latest update has 3% brighter nights? In that case, is the additional "brighter nights" option still needed (been using it until now)?

I would say no. This will just overwrite that and make the night brighter because it has the same enbeffect.fx settings as that.

    Couple questions

I am not sure if its Cresty's distant mists with this, but it seems very bright during the day? I switched from High fidelity ENB which was similar in this way, Any thoughts?

I have obsidian weathers installed but what is the "add-ons" you speak of?

I think I stopped using that one, but it is in Rudy's enb for Obsidian SE https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/4796?tab=files. This may fix it, but it may not and it might not be your cup of tea.

If it is too bright during the day, how does it look at night? Is it bright enough, too bright, too dark, perfect? This can help to figure out a way to tweak it for you. Since most things are weather specific, is it in all weather types? If it is always too bright and you just want everything darker, I would advise reducing the brightness level of the shader. In the enbHelper window (Desktop only, just hit Shift + Enter on the keyboard and switch to Steam Desktop view) in the box on the right, open the tab for enbeffect.fx.and turn Down the brightness or Up the contrast, or both, to your liking. This will just makes things darker without changing any other settings.

This is great, thanks for putting it together. I'm using Onyx weathers and ELFX and it's very dark, even in sunlight. Is there something I could adjust for that? I posted a couple pics to show what I mean. Thank you

Yes, if it is too dark, hit shift+enter, and go to the right side where it has the enbeffect. Lower the contrast setting. I am still playing with that one. I want it dark, but only just dark enough to barely see stuff on a dark night. I set it to 1.07 lately and am getting better results. It is a powerful setting, so a few points is all that is needed. Change it to 1.0 and it will be very bright at night. Since different HMDs have different screens, you may need a little less contrast. You could also crank the brightness value there, but it would use large values. I also recommend getting the double torch radius mod. I like a dark night, but the vanilla torches don't reach past your feet. With that mod, they become an essential part of you gear. They actually work, and go well with a really dark nighttime.

Edit: while you are there in the enb helper shaders menu, you might check the bloom shader setting and make sure it is not set to 2 pass. It can only do single pass or it will really mess up the stars and cause several other weird things to happen on screen.

Edit: I have fixed the 2 pass bloom shader issue with the stars. 2 pass is now my recommendation.

Thank you, that's so helpful. I figured out that I made a mistake when setting up your enb. Most enbs I've used don't require you to copy in all the files from the wrapper version of enb Dev and then overwrite, they have those edited files inside their own enb preset. So I didn't read your description properly (sorry) and this is why I was getting weird lighting and artifacts.

I got it working now, but it is still quite blurry. Is it ok to add the CAS for ENB files to your preset?

sorry about not getting back to you for a while. It has CAS bult in. I have tweaked those in the last 2 updates. It should be sharper now. You can always mess with the enb to get it to your liking. In the shaders window in enb helper there is a postprocessing drop down. Chage the type to sharpen and adjust the settings there, or just get the latest update. It is definitely possible to over sharpen with CAS, so I think the latest settings follow my philosophy of taking it just a little too far, and then backing it up some.

oooo a 2.0!  exciting.  yours is the most purpose built for VR in my opinion (especially if one installs onyx rather than obsidian)

did you modify solstheim and/or the soul cairn in 2.0?  those have their own xmls and looked in the previous version like they perhaps were not converted(?)

Nah, I haven't messed with them yet. They are straight copies of the settings from the original Rudy for Obsidian. I can try to get them in version 2.1. Do you think I ought to try Onyx weathers? I use Obsidian, because I have the overhead. This one has a sharpener and I bumped the color saturation, but then lowered it some. I feel it rides the line of being too colorful, but doesn't step over it. I would love some feedback about that.  I also darkend the nights by a ton, so I recommend the double torch radius mod, or if people feel they are too dark I can add more ambient lighting.

Edit. Wait. I have been messing with Solstheim and it is not where I want it to be yet. Getting the ashstorms right is tough. Should there be a ton of sunshafts because of the light reacting in a volumetric way with the dust, or should it blot out the sun? For that, I will walk around the Molag Amur region for inspiration. In Morrowind, it ashstorms block out the sun entirely.

Onyx might be worth a look - it's hard for me to say; you've already done a ton of work with the setup you have.  I don't know much about the difference between the two as I don't have the patience to do what you have done here :)  the good news would be that it has the same weather systems as Obsidian, it's just tweaked for VR.  With it already being tweaked for VR (sans ENB) leads us to presume it would be good starting point for a VR ENB.  I've been playing with your ENB installed but with Onyx rather than Oblivion and it looks good - though I've also turned on AO (with Scenery's settings) and sss

Yeah, I left AO off for performance purposes, I usually find the hit to not be worth it with bloom, adaptation, and AO, but I turned on bloom for the window lights to look correct. The issue is that in cold climates it blooms the player's breath fog and looking through that illuminates the stuff behind it. Not sure how to correct that. For ashstorms I am thinking of making a no sun, red everything weather that mimics the ashstorms of Morrowind. I'll work on that today, if I can get some time on the computer.

I kind of like Rudy's 3 weathers for Solstheim regular ashy days, but I just uploaded an optional red ashstorms weather file. Just put the ini into the enbseries folder. I went for a toned-down version of Morrowind ashstorms.

    very nice work :)

for iterations I'm curious if Onyx rain textures would help with the rain (rather than darkening etc)

Yes. I have been tweaking my rain, and I am using a new enbraindrops.dds and I am getting good results. I say use the one you like, but I am going to upload an update soon that raises the refraction and transparency of the rain. You can also edit that yourself. I'd recommend setting ignore weather to true and just changing those setting to your liking in enbseries.txt

would it be appropriate to add a mod like ELFX/shadows or ELE ??  RLO or lux??    I am really new to light mods...my previous ENB setup went terribly wrong.

I had horrible black shadows on people's faces, and reverse darkness where I could see, although the light was foggy, angry guards ahead of me, but when I ran forward to fight them, a shroud of darkness befell me...and the light returned when I ran back to whence I came....I abandoned my house carl in the strange light which behaved like darkness...I also abandoned the playthrough and am in the middle of rerolling lol

Yes. Go ahead and use elfx or lux. It will work fine. That shadow surrounding you bug is probably not caused by those mods I don't think. Not sure about any others. This enb works fine with them, and it probably works fine with other weathers, but it is mainly based on the rudy enb for obsidian weathers, and I made it with obsidian weathers installed and elfx. I think it looks good in my headset, so I recommend elfx.

Thanks for this!  I use Onyx VR Weathers (which is just tweaked Obsidian Weathers as far as I can tell) and prefer your provided setup (excluding your listed requirements) to my experimentally tweaked version of Rudy ENB for Obsidian.
My only complaint is that nights become noticeably brighter when it rains.
Not sure if it is this mod causing it or not, but I'm pretty sure it only started when I used this mod: all characters eyes are glowing now (all NPCs).  Not really noticeable during the day, but very immersion breaking at night.  If I figure out why, I'll post an update here.  I don't think I have any other mods that directly affect eyes...
Edit: nevermind, I see you mention the bright eyes issue in the description, so that confirms it ;)

Hey thanks. I am still tweaking it. There is an eyes setting, and I am working to figure that out. I'm not sure if the eyes section does anything in ENB VR yet, but I'm going to work on toning down the brightness with a sin wave for time of day, that will still cause issues during cloud shadows, because they are not dependent on TOD. Same thing for the rain at night. It comes back to cloud shadows. Oh, and there is the Rudy ENB rain fix that I use as it was part of Rudy's Obsidian add-ons and requirements that might provide a different look for me than it does for you since you're using Onyx weathers, even though that is a VR friendlier version of Obsidian to start with.  There may be some small differences.

I do use "Rudy ENB for Obsidian Weathers add-ons and required files", but I don't see anything that addresses any type of "ENB rain fix".  The closest thing I can see there is something to do with wonders of weather and the droplet splashes, but I don't use that mod so I don't have that "fix" installed.  Not convinced droplet splashes would result in the entire environment to lighting up this noticeably anyways.  Perhaps you got your ENB rain fix from somewhere else?
Looking forward to your eyes tweak!

Yeah, got to do it for every weather, so could take a while. I can get a fast fix in where they're all the same but better, but the real work will be getting each weather with the right look for the eyes at all times of day. I might also just need to bite the bullet and brighten the cloud shadows a bit.  It will make them less noticeable rolling in the distance, but it will help with the eyes if lowering the specularity and subsurface scattering doesn't help.

Aha. I found some rain weathers where the ambient light amount gets darker at sunset and then lightens at night.  I swapped the numbers. Now night will be the darkest time of day for a given weather. Also running a wave for the eyes, and will check to see if this fixes the issues with eyes and bright rain at nights.  The Rudy Rain Enb fix I think was a particle patch for rain to work with enb. I still need to tweak particles to react to time of day and light sources correctly, as I get a horizontal light streak through the rain if I am next to a light source. I want the rain to react to light, just not like that.
